sunrise
"This is where we're going to live," I said as I set down her bags in the living room area.
Everything happened fairly quickly. Two days later, we were here. She decided to keep her apartment, which was fine, but most of her things would eventually be here at my place. I kept thinking that this was not normal, no one does this kind of shit, my brain wiring is beyond fried.
But my heart said differently. She inspired me. Everything about her was beautiful to me, still wrapped in darkness and a very mysterious gaze. Aurora had made me fall for her quickly. I could almost say fate had brought her to me, tied with a pretty bow as a gift, but it wouldn't be so easy.
Aurora looked around and with wide eyes took in the ethereal view of the city in front of us. Her small frame seemed to be swallowed up in the lights, like they were stars and had been placed closer for her to see.
"It's beautiful, Abel. I can't believe this is happening."
For a moment, there was hesitation. "I know you're not too sure yet. Especially since the music thing is happening. But you don't need to worry, I'll be here with you. I don't wanna be anywhere else."
I walk closer to her and put my arm around her. She leans in a little and rests her head on my arm. "And your girlfriend?"
I roll my eyes and sit on the couch across from the large window, looking out into the city. "She's not my girlfriend anymore."
She giggles. "Does she know that? Did you kick her out of here?"
I shake my head and pat the spot next to me. "Nah, this is a new place. This is home."
She raised a brown and her expression settled into one of acceptance. With a pretty smile and a gentle touch of her hand on mine, she decided to walk around the place further and inspect.
There was a particular type of calm that settled into my chest when she was around. None of the bullshit I had dealt with in the past few years could bother me anymore, and for once I understood what leaving the past in the past really meant. This was a fresh start for both of us, I knew that relationships took work. Understanding, patience and commitment were very real things that I needed to master. I was willing to learn and maybe let her teach me.
Even though I was aware that we knew very little about each other, I still felt like I really knew her. I could talk to her as if we had known each other for years, with no fear of being judged or ridiculed.
Aurora sat down on the leather couch and looked out at the city, the lights always keeping our place illuminated and full of life. The city never slept and I could always count on that to make me feel comforted.
I sat next to her and basked in the comfortable silence. She eased next to me and rested her head on my shoulder, her hand easily finding a place on my knee.
"I think that it's strange how we met," I say absentmindedly, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, me too. I was actually about to leave before you got there. Perfect timing, huh?"
I smile. "I guess for once I was at the right place at the right time."
"Why did you take such an interest in me, anyway?"
I think about it for a second. It wasn't easy to come up with a rational explanation. How could I without sounding like a lunatic?
"When I saw you, I just felt like I knew I had to have you," she laughs and looks up at me. "I don't really believe in love at first sight, or any kind of fairytale bullshit they keep recycling in movies. That's not what this is. I guess, I just saw you and recognized you in a way I hadn't been able to recognize anyone."
Aurora kisses my shoulder. "I'm really glad you said something. Because I keep going over it in my head and I felt the same way."
Knowing it's mutual definitely made me feel a lot better.
"Why were you hesitant about going out with me?"
She sighs, her beautiful features still astounding. "I just don't wanna get hurt."
I grabbed her hands in mine and watched her look down at her lap, as if looking into my eyes would reveal something in hers she wasn't prepared for me to see.
"I'm not trying to hurt you, I don't wanna do that. You've heard stories I'm sure, but just trust me. I'm not gonna let you down."
