I was concerned about doing mining and harvesting where people could see us. Not just because we pull vegetables and minerals out of things noninvasively, but also because every place is owned by somebody, some of whom might try to object with shotguns and stuff. Never a problem in Eorzea, where people didn't seem to mind when we harvested right on their farm.

Turns out Gatherer's Sneak ability works pretty well here. In Eorzea it lets gatherers not be noticed by hostiles; here, "hostiles" seems to include anyone who'd object to us wandering on their property and harvesting in their fields. If anyone did notice us, they apparently didn't care.

But we need to widen our range to get to the good stuff, wherever it is, if it is. And that's a problem if we don't have Earth-normal transportation. We've got lots of mounts, but we never got the car mount, I don't remember ever seeing a motorcycle mount, and the only reasonably mundane critter mount we have is the chocobo, which might pass for a big ostrich. Apparently no one ever wanted a "plain" horse in FF14. Tsu'na probably misses her Boreas as much as I miss my Aithon.

The Falcon does look like a weird motorcycle, but it would attract attention, which is bad since it's not street-legal because we don't have plates. The Manacutter could pass for a small aircraft, but it'd be an unregistered aircraft which would show up on radar. I don't care how many movies were made, I don't think we can get away with the mech armor suits.

So, unless we can find really cheap bicycles or something, that probably means traveling at night using an organic mount that doesn't glow, flying to avoid main roads.

God help me, I think that means the goobbue.

It also means camping gear, since traveling at night will mess up our schedule. And Tsu'na's still working on her bathroom rhythm. So I'm going a little nuts with Original Me's money to get a cheap tent, a couple cheap sleeping bags, a 5-gallon water jug and a camp shovel. Decent prices on Amazon, and I can get the stuff sent to the Hartman place during the day.

Tsu'na asked me why I'm buying a shovel. I told her it's for digging a latrine.

"You mentioned a latrine before. What is it?"

"A ditch that you dig, about a foot wide by three feet long by three feet deep. You stand over it with one foot on either side, squat down and use it for a toilet. Then you shovel some of the dirt back in."

"...You are joking?"

"No, I'm not. Standard camping practice."

"What if I fall in?"

"Well, you're an intelligent woman, so you'll probably be able to tell how hard I'll be trying to not laugh at you."

She grabbed my shirt. "If I fall, I will take you with me."

"I'll be praying you don't fall, then."

Right, I should probably add toilet paper to the order. And a lantern.

Google Maps says there's rocky hills to the west which will probably be good for mining, and it looks like meadows to the northwest which hopefully have grass and grain. If the order comes in tomorrow we can head out after the diner shift and be back in a couple days. We can tell the Hartmans we're looking for work out of town. Technically true.

We found a pawn shop in town and sold a pair of copper wristlets. They have a small intelligence boost; maybe they'll help whoever buys them. Selling it was more of an experiment than income; we probably couldn't get away with pawning lots of the same thing unless we made an arrangement with the owner. And we should probably work out how to make unstatted replicas first.

That was a bit of a chicken-and-egg question I had in Eorzea: Did the weapon convey the skill, or did the class imbue the weapon? We change classes by changing weapons, and the weapons are specific to classes. What would happen if I gave an Eorzean Gladiator sword to an Earth norm? Would he become a Gladiator and get Gladiator skills? And inventory and all? Or would he simply not be able to use it because he wasn't already a Gladiator?

For that matter, would we still be able to use Gladiator skills if we picked up an Earth sword? Or would it just be an all-classes replica?

That'll have to wait. I think buying a sword with Original Me's money would be a little too nuts.
