*Shadow's POV*
Eggmans laugh echoed through the cold, metallic hallway. His grin taunted me as he stood behind his army of robots. His presence here meant I was right. He had been expecting me, but did he know about Sonic?
I took a step forward, scanning my surroundings, my eyes landing on two massive robots standing beside Eggman. They were bigger than his usual models, much more capable of destruction than his usual toys he sent out to the cities. They weren't here to slow me down. They were here to destroy me.
My mind kept racing over the possibilities this battle could end in. As well as wondering what Eggman may or may not know.
Did he know Sonic was alive?
Did he know Sonic was here?
Was his machine here?
Had he been working on his machine this whole time?
I tried to keep my focus on the situation, but it was hard when I knew somewhere in the base was Sonic. The minute he saw I was in trouble, I knew he'd come out of hiding. I can't mess up here, or Sonic will recklessly make this mission fail. And if Eggman had the machine somewhere in this base, we were running out of time.
"Im going to need you not to play around here, Hedgehog." I muttered under my breath, somehow hoping Sonic would hear. Pleading, he would follow the plan for once in his stupid life.
Eggmans grin widened. "You've played right into my trap. I knew that pest saw what I was working on that day, and knowing how annoying he is, I figured he must have told you and your bat friend. You're predictable! And that's what makes this so much fun!" His laugh echoed around the walls, I clenched my fists and greeted my teeth.
"Seems to me you repeat yourself often, Doctor. What makes this time any different?" I crossed my arms, standing up straight yet keeping my guard up in case of an attack from behind.
Eggmans grin didn't dissappear, he raised his hands, and with a snap of his fingers, the robots beside him launched forward. The footsteps were heavy. They shook the ground under me, making me tense and get ready for battle.
I instantly spinned, smashing into the first robot that came from my left, bouncing back and quickly dodging to my right when the second robot came in for the attack, smashing his hands down, ready to crush me. With a burst of speed, I slid under its legs and charged a chaos spear, jumping high in the air and slashing through his exposed back.
I watched as the first robots lunged forward again and dodged, watching the second go for the attack once again. I jumped just in time for the two to collide with each other and landed on one of their arms. From there, I launched myself forward again, landing a solid kick in the head and jumping back to land on the others head as the robot swung at me. It's hand colliding with the robot I was currently standing on. While I chaos controlled down to the floor, the metalic head landed beside me, creating the floor to shake once more.
Sparks flew as the machine stumbled back and landed abruptly on top of the other. But Eggman wasn't done yet. From his control panel, he activated something, causing the floor beneath me to start to move.
"I found it. And for what I am seeing, you're coming straight down here." I heard Sonic speak through my communicator, immediately covering the sound for the doctor not to hear, but he caught on quick.
"Someone else came with you? Of course. It should have been expected." His evil grin was still plastered on his face as he spoke. It seemed that we were following his plans one way or another. I didn't understand. He had something else up his sleeve.
"Stick to the plan. I'll keep him busy." I snapped back at the communicator.
"Are you o-" I cut the line before he could keep talking. I knew now that the doctor didn't know Sonic was alive, which I took as an advantage.
"Whats this?" I jumped back to solid ground.
"You didn't think I'd let you waltz in here and ruin my plans, did you? The real plan has just begun!" He laughed louder.
Before I could react, a powerful blast of energy erupted from where the floor used to be, sending me flying backward. I crashed into the wall, grunting in pain as I felt it rattle my bones. I rose back up as I ignored the pain cursing through my body and watched as the robots that I knocked down got back up. They looked somehow stronger than before. Quicker, I noticed this when they launched in my direction. Before I could prepare myself, they were already towering over me.
One swung its arm towards me, landing a solid hit. Once again, I was thrown against the wall. I pushed myself back up, trying once again to ignore the pain I felt all over my body.
I didn't have time for this, I didn't have time to fight them. I figured Eggman was trying to stall me. I couldn't shake the feeling that the machine here was working was already ready. I need to get out of here and get to Sonic.
I hated the idea of running away, but Eggman had the upper hand in this case. I couldn't stick around and waste another second. I need to find my real target and stop giving Eggman time to use it against us.
I pushed forward, dodging the robots attacks as I jumped over them and threw myself over the hole that was now in the room. I fell a few stories down and when I finally saw the light of the room I assume Sonic was in, I spin dashed a few robots that were on the way, landing on one to use to cushion the fall.
"Run while you can, Shadow! But I'll be waiting for you!" I looked up as he peeked down over us, the floor atop closing in again as he laughed maniacally. I clenched my fists and looked around.
Where is Sonic?
*****
Think this is the first time I actually wrote a fighting scene. New territory for me.
