(Third Person P.O.V)

Piloting the Golden Mech back to the lighthouse had been one of the most gruelling fifteen minutes of Lloyd's life. Especially with (Y/N) and Zane hanging on to the outside.

Lloyd glanced at (Y/N) and Zane. Zane had made extra sure (Y/N) was safe by making sure she was secured to himself to make sure she didn't fall off the Golden Mech. The sight of the pair being so close made Lloyd's heartache.

"How are you feeling?" Zane asked the wind distorting his voice slightly making it hard for (Y/N) to hear the white ninja. "What?" (Y/N) questioned having not heard what the nindroid had been saying. "How are you feeling!?" Zane repeated only louder and closer this time.

(Y/N) paused, considering some truthful responses. Confused. Frustrated. Angry.

"Fine." (Y/N) lied and half-shouted over the wind. Zane stared at her a moment longer. "I find I do not believe you." Zane said honestly. "Believe what you want to believe." (Y/N) countered with a slight smile.

"Were they always so close?" Lloyd wondered as he rubbed his chest just above where his heart resided. The green ninja cursed inwardly. "Uh, hey! We're here!" Lloyd then shouted out, abruptly. Grabbing the pair's attention.

Finally, the Golden Mech landed on the secluded island.

"ECHO!" (Y/N) shouted out for the copper nindroid as soon as she set foot on the sand but there was nothing but silence. "ECHO!" (Y/N) shouted out again. Once again, nothing.

(Y/N) began to worry. "Echo!" (Y/N) yelled as she started running up the steps of the old lighthouse. Kicking up sand as she did. Lloyd went to stop her from running in her weakened condition. "(Y/N) wait!" Lloyd shouted and followed after her and Zane.

(Y/N) forced the door to the lighthouse open. "Echo?!" (Y/N) yelled up the stairs. But she was only met with silence. She even opened the secret room. "Echo?" (Y/N) quietly asked. But the happy go lucky copper nindroid was nowhere to be found.

"Where is he?" (Y/N) asked turning to Zane for the answer. "I do not know." Zane answered honestly.

"He couldn't leave the island. So where could he have..." (Y/N)'s line of questioning stopped as soon as her eyes fixed on the ocean.

"Oh no!" (Y/N) gasped in horror. The realisation dawning on all three of them. "He must have..." Lloyd started to say but couldn't bring himself to finish speaking. "And the star teeth..." Zane was able to say before (Y/N) broke down into a sobbing wreck.

"ECHO!" (Y/N) loudly sobbed. Lloyd went to comfort her but she hugged Zane. Lloyd stood there awkwardly watching as Zane and (Y/N) comforted each other. (Y/N) was unintenelly letting her walls down in front of them, letting them see such a personal side of herself that no one even knew existed.

A grief-filled scream wracked through her body as Zane hugged her back. "I'M SO SORRY!!" (Y/N) cried out. "I FAILED HIM!" (Y/N) sobbed into Zane's shoulder. Zane hugged her tightly.

"I'm so sorry, Zane." (Y/N) sobbed into white ninja's gi. "I am sorry as well." Zane admitted.

(Third Person P.O.V)

______ Echo ______

When the trio finally made it back to the bounty, the sun was starting to rise and the others were waiting for them to return. When the others saw Lloyd's Golden Mech they looked relieved.

Zane knew the others would question them about where they had gone and he wasn't ready to start explaining. He was much more worried about (Y/N) anyway. She just curled up around the white ninja and refused to let go. Silently sobbing into his pristine gi.

Nya and the remaining ninjas ran to catch up to the trio. Only to find out that the trio seemed to be frozen in place.

"Lloyd." Kai expressed happily. "We're so glad you're okay. What was this about anyway?" Nya questioned him as they dismounted the Golden Mech.

(Y/N) burst into tears and Zane silently took her into the bounty. "Lloyd?" Nya spoke coming up next to the green ninja. "What's wrong?" Nya spoke, dread filling her voice.

"Echo... Um... Echo's gone." Lloyd painstakingly explained. "What?" Jay gasped in horror. "Zane's brother... Echo. We think he must have tried to swim after us and the Star teeth..." Lloyd couldn't finish the sentence.

With that news, a great portion of colour drained from their faces. Kai, Nya, Cole and Jay all let out a horrified gasp all at once.

"So... Zane's brother..." Cole said looking back at the bounty where Zane and (Y/N) had disappeared too. Lloyd sadly nodded rather than speak.

"Oh, brick!" Cole uttered. Jay was hugging himself. Kai was holding Nya tightly. Without another word to the four ninjas, walked into the bounty.

"Poor Zane." Jay said, wiping some tears from his face. Cole was just silent and stone-faced. He knew what it was like to lose a loved one. But poor Zane had only just found his father and brother and to lose them both so quickly after.

"I'm going to call my folks." Jay said and walked off to find the phone. Walking past Sensei Wu who was coming back from checking on the distort pair.

"Lloyd." Sensei Wu greeted his nephew. "How are they?" The green ninja asked hesitantly, afraid of the answer he might receive.

Sensei Wu sighed. "(Y/N) needs her rest for the next few days and should try not to push herself too much for the next few weeks." Sensei Wu stated.

"And Zane?" Lloyd asked. "He will be ok. We just need to be there for him as we were when his father passed." Sensei Wu explained.

Lloyd took a deep breath. Though the green ninja was more than relieved, although he felt nothing but guilt. He kept replaying the horrible scene in his head, thinking about how his quick decision to take (Y/N) and run had ended up hurting both (Y/N) and Zane greatly. It had only been a split-second decision. But he felt lower than dirt.

"Nephew are you all right?" Sensei Wu asked breaking the boy out of his train of thought.

"Yeah." Lloyd expressed wearily, "I'm fine... I'm just worried about (Y/N) and Zane is all." Lloyd stated. Sensei Wu stared at his nephew for a contemplative moment then nodded. "I understand." Sensei Wu said.

"I'm going to bed now." Lloyd spoke again, voice breaking. Without waiting for a response from Sensei Wu, Lloyd moved towards the doors and darted out.

He silently sped past Nya and Kai, down the hall to the ninja's shared room and fumbling onto the solitude of his bunk.

(Third Person P.O.V)

______ Echo ______

Zane and (Y/N) had taken over the lounge room. (Y/N) just sat there sniffling under the comforting blanket Zane had wrapped her up in.

Zane went to leave but (Y/N)'s arm launched out to grab a hold of Zane's arm. Even though the grip on his arm was weak. Zane stopped and turned around to look at her. "D-Don't go. I don't want to be alone." (Y/N) softly pleaded.

"(Y/N), you're not alone. I'm right here now." Zane calmly stated. "I know." She muttered, acknowledging that what Zane was saying was true. "But I... Don't want you to be alone either." (Y/N) gently stated.

It was rare for (Y/N) to be so open. Usually, she hid her feelings behind sarcasm or an ambivalent attitude. But Zane knew, in reality, she did that because she didn't want to get hurt. She was a lot more wounded than she'd ever let on. And needed a lot more comfort and encouragement than she'd like to admit.

"I'm right here (Y/N)." Zane told her. "I'm not going anywhere." Zane promised before curling up with (Y/N). She sniffed once before holding Zane tighter for a while before falling asleep. Still wrapped protectively around Zane.

She may have failed Echo. But she wasn't failing his brother. It was the least she could do for poor sweet Echo.
