Chapter 1
I stared at myself in the giant vanity mirror in my room. Today's the day, today's the test. Today. Today is where my future begins, where I find out what I'll be doing for the rest of my life. I stared at myself in the mirror noticing flaws and litter things that I don't normally notice, how my brown eyes have flecks of gold, how my nose is too small for my face. I don't look that feminine I guess but I'm not ugly either, inbetween. I smoothed down the white skirt and blue blouse that I had chosen to wear. Look your best to pass the test, right?
I but my lip and looked away time to eat breakfast, or try to at least. Honestly I felt like a million butterflies were flying around in my stomach. Today. The word kept repeating in my head over and over with each step I took. Today today today today today today today today. The test started at exactly 11:00 for me I'd memorized it long ago, the day and hour you were born you took your test. May 24th
1002 A.E. 11:00. My hands shook as I walk down stairs and glanced at the time 10:01 I would have to start walking there soon. It was normal for breakfast, only thing out of the ordinary was how my mom kept on saying "You look beautiful sweetie" or "you'll do wonderful, just like always right!" In her sing-song voice.
I quickly ate a good packet as fast as I possibly could not bothering to try and taste the nonexistent flavor. I grabbed some navy blue flats and headed out the door.
"Good luck!" my mom called happily from the door, I shoved my hands in my pockets and walked briskly. At this fast of a pace Id have 20 minutes before the test, probably a good thing to be early. The walk wasn't anything interesting down a narrow cement path the dry air and artificial grass seemed somehow to mock me. Geez! Why was I so nervous, I always control my nerves easily but today they were out of control.
In school we had taken a Pretest to see the most likely out come of our test, a few boys got S.W.A. Soldiers and paraded around like kings, a few girls got nurses and scientists and smirked like they new everything. I remembered staring at my screen looking at my result. One simple word, not what I expected but ok enough I guess
" Congress, Political Leader "
"Just aim for congress"
I told myself smiling slightly. Just as I finished the thought a clean prestige building shadowed over me and I felt my stomach drop, I was here.
Here.
"Today" I said under my breath
And I walked in.
