#26 - A Happy Ending
Third Person POV
Rune started going to school again, along with Phoenix and Phoenix's friends; Zeph and Emerald, also started going to school, with the help of Melanie and Rune (who supplied the money). They loved school, Zeph was is most of Phoenix and Rune's classes and the three quickly became great friends. Emerald also made friends in her classes.
Everything was perfect. Until Phoenix got called back to Heaven by Fyres, the phoenix belonging to Castiel.
He left.

Phoenix's POV
I walk around the boarder of Heaven, sharp blue sword in hand, white armour covering every inch of my skin and my giant wings tucked neatly at my back, ready for action in a seconds notice.
I pace my area, keeping an eye out for anything and everything, holding my sword ready for usage. I snap my head around when I hear footsteps but relax when I notice that it's just Castiel.
"Hey, hows things?" Cas asks, handing me a drink. I take it and nod gratefully.
"Silent." I reply before taking a sip.
Cas nods. "That's probably a good thing though? He's already attacked multiple times before we could get word to you."
I purse my lips slightly. "I'm really not sure. I think we've been underestimating him, and he's just playing with us. I'm not sure what else we can do either though. We have guards at every corner that meet every hour to check on each other, yet he hasn't attacked, not since last time anyway."
The last time Knox attacked, he went for the children that were playing board games in the library, he lit the library on fire and barred the windows and door until someone saw and got them out, just in time.
"You're right. The next place he'll attack will either be the archangels or the guards." Cas mutters, "I'd bet my life on it."
"Don't bet your life on anything, Castiel." I answer and shift forward to hug him.
"Think positive, yeah? He can't hurt us if we don't think he can." I pat his back before pulling away, Castiel just gives me a deadpan stare, causing me to roll my eyes and playfully punch his shoulder.
Cas chuckles before looking around slowly. Suddenly, his brows furrow.
"What is it?" I question, turning my head to look in the same direction.
My eyes widen and I stumble back slightly.
"Oh my..." I mutter, staring with wide eyes at the monster flames rushing through the trees, destroying everything in its path, trees, grass, buildings all going up in flames, turning to ash within seconds.
"Oh man, we're screwed. Oh boy, we need to tell the others, and quickly." Castiel blabbers, staring with eyes that reflect the horror occurring before our very eyeballs.
"Yeah, that might be a good idea, perhaps, most likely, yeah. Start running about now!" I shout, as the fire roars closer before taking off running towards the Castle, Castiel right on my heels, swearing to a mightier power that he would stop leaving his dirty socks everywhere. Any other time I would have laughed, but in this point in time, I'm too busy trying not to piss myself as the sound of crackling fire licks at our heels, causing sweat to break out on the back of my neck and slide down my back.
We arrive back at the Castle, shouting for help and warning them of the flames approaching quickly, the red, orange and blue colours dancing like they have a mind of their own, reaching for the sky before devouring everything in sight.
God and the other Archangels hurry out, quickly calming the citizens and pointing them towards the bunkers, where they will be safe from all elements. God walks over to me with a questioning, grim stare.
"Knox."
"Should have know he wouldn't give up that quickly." God says, rubbing his face and trying to reduce the stress wrinkles. I nod in reply and notice Cas doing the same in my peripheral vision.
"I think.. We have have to get help from others similar, to make the fights fair.." I say slowly, paying close attention to their faces.
"What?!" Castiel exclaims, "Ask the elementals for help?? I think the smoke got to your head. One simply does not ask the elementals for help fighting anyone, let alone one of their OWN." he informs, like the whole idea is prosperous, and maybe it is.
"Maybe.. but what if I ask?" I question. Both God and the angel pause to consider it, and I wait patiently for their answer, turning my head to watch the angels and other magical beings use their powers to put out the rapidly approaching fire.
"Alright.." God reluctantly agrees after about a minute, "You can go to the elementals and request for help in Heaven to fight against Knox."
I nod, "I will return as soon as possible." I close my eyes and feel my body transform into particles before moving with the literal speed of light until I appear on the outskirts of the largest Elemental city in the known magical world.
Amphis.
The city brimming with Elemental life, all types, from the more common fire, earth, water and air elements, to the more complex, ice, fog, weather etc. ones. Here they all lived in harmony, no water vs fire, or earth vs air.
I walk up to the guards stationed at the gates to the city and pause to look them up and down, one had armour coloured like fire, bright oranges, reds, blues and even slight purples, and the other was in pure white armour, similar to my own, but with blue swirling sleeves and pant legs.
A fire and an ice elemental, doesn't that sound familiar?
"Hold up, who the fuck are you?" One of them, the fire elemental, snarls, stepping forward, his sword turning into a flaming weapon of destruction in seconds. The ice elemental stands there by the gate, pale blue eyes watching me intensely and looking ready to pounce at a moments notice.
I spread my wings slightly before channeling electricity from the ground into them, causing them to sparkle and crackle slightly, causing all three of us to have the hairs on our arms and the back of our necks stand on end.
"I am here to speak with your leader. My name is Phoenix, and I am an elemental angel." I announce, causing electricity to encase me in a sort of bubble to show I meant business before allowing it to disperse without trouble. I tuck my wings back behind my back before standing taller as the two seem to gape at me.
"Oh.. uh. Yeah, alright I suppose. This way." The fire elemental mutters slightly, but the ice elemental stops him before he can walk away.
"We don't know this person, Arden, you can't just let anyone in!" The ice elemental shouts, smacking him, Arden, on the shoulder.
"Coral, he's an elemental angel! There hasn't been one of those since Knox!" He replies.
"You two know Knox?" I question and they both look at me warily, instantly becoming suspicious.
"I'm not with him, don't worry. He's trying to take over Heaven and we need reinforcements, because at the moment, he outnumbers us six to one, and the angels don't really have the magical abilities necessary to fight against them, since most are elementals." I inform, "please take me to your leader."
Coral purses her lips before reluctantly nodding. "Come with us."
I nod before following as she asks someone to take over before leading me to what I'm assuming is where their leader lives/works. I glance around the city as we walk to the building, so many different colours smile back at me, ranging from boring dull, old ones, to brilliant bright, freshly painted new ones.
The vastness honestly surprises me, I personally never would have thought that they could all get along together, at least not after watching The Last Airbender, but things are obviously different in real life compared to a movie, and everyone here seems to be living in harmony.
We arrive at the building and the female ice elemental, Coral, rings the doorbell before stepping back. It's silent for a few moments before the door opens and the butler raises an eyebrow questioningly at the two guards on either side of me.
"What is this, Coral, Arden?" He asks.
"This is Phoenix, he's here on behalf of Heaven." Arden informs professionally.
"Oh?"
"Yep, can we speak to Rex please?" Arden asks.
"He's not supposed to be disturbed this early..." the butler trails off.
"Please Kai, it's imperative that we talk to him, now." Coral pleads.
'Kai' sighs before nodding and allowing us to enter. "It will be your tongues he cuts out, not mine."
"He cuts out tongues?" I question, and my response is three nods. "He's old fashioned then."
I already think I'm not going to like this person.
We follow the butler to this "Rex"'s office area, the three of us behind Kai, the butler, moving like a unit.
Kai knocks on the door and both Coral and Arden seem to hold their breath. A few moments later and the door opens, revealing a white haired male. He stares at Kai for a moment before looking past him at us.
"What is this?" Rex demands.
"This is Phoenix, he's here on behalf of Heaven. They need reinforcements to fight back against Knox.." Arden informs.
Rex lets out a loud, obnoxious belly laugh, hunching over slightly and holding his bulging abdomen.
"H-Heaven.. needs our.. help?!" He exclaims during spouts of laughter.
I glance at Arden and Coral from the corner of my eye and notice their bewildered and alarmed stares.
This can't be good.
Instantly, as if hearing my thoughts, Rex sobers, his laughter ceasing like it never happened in the first place. Instantly, alarm bells start ringing in my mind and I put my guard up, tensing my wings just slightly and double checking that my magic is right there if I need it.
"Alight, I'll hear this out." Rex decides after a few moments of just creepily staring at me.
I nod.
"You three are dismissed." He says to the two guards and the butler.
"Can the guards stay? They've already heard what I have to say, and they might remember what I have forgotten." I ask.
Rex looks disgusted with my request but doesn't say anything, just stiffly nods his head before walking into the room and motioning for us to follow.
I glance at Coral and Arden who are staring at me in unmasked horror. I wink at them before walking into the room and taking a seat on the opposite side of the desk to where Rex has planted himself.
"So, what did you want to say exactly?" Rex questions, his eyes darting to glare at Arden and Coral in a manner he probably thinks is discreet.
I clear my throat to draw his attention back to me.
"Heaven needs backup in their fight against Knox. The angels and citizens don't have the right abilities to be fighting against Elementals, but if we had elementals on our side too, it would be more even and we'd have a better chance of winning." I inform, crossing one leg over the other and leaning back in the chair casual like.
"Yeah? And what makes you think we'd fight with Heaven? Especially against our own kind." Rex snarks.
I nod calmly, "that's why I was sent, in case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly a normal Elemental, or angel. I'm both."
I wait for him to process it before both his bushy white brows raise, almost getting lost in his white hair.
"You're an elemental angel." He states, a slow grin forming on his face, his fingers rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
I narrow my eyes slowly, completely disgusted and alarmed at the look on his face. This... my brows furrow in confusion, I can't tell what kind of elemental he is..
Usually I'm able to tell, like with Coral and Arden, I knew what they were the moment I saw them, because I learnt how to with God's help. But this.. leader doesn't seem to have any magical abilities whatsoever.
I'm broken out of my thoughts when Coral and Arden grab me, pinning my arms at my sides and grabbing my wings before I can spread them. I don't struggle however, instead I just deadpan at Rex, whose wicked grin falters momentarily.
"You think you can hold me, I literally just said I was an elemental angel, aka an entity with the powers of two creatures. Your guards only have one, and you, have none." I remark.
Instantly, the old man's face becomes red with fury and he's coming at me, faster than any of us expected and before we can react, Rex is punching me in the face.
My head snaps to the side and blood bursts free from my nose, mouth and lip.
"Holy shit! For an old dude you pack a punch!" I shout, holding my face and moving away, spreading my wings protectively and causing my electrical powers to pulse through the air and around me.
"You will not treat me with disrespect in my own city, child." Rex sneers, his hands clenching and unclenching by his sides, ready to meet my face again.
"Touch me, and you're getting a 110 voltage hug." I warn when all three of them sneak closer, preparing to grab me.
Coral and Arden visibly hesitate, but Rex on the other hand starts to reach out, only for me to give him a zap, which causes him to jump and step back, rubbing his hand.
"I will only warn you one more time, if you touch me, you're dying. Now, listen to me, and listen well." I assert.
"You will give me half of your army, and in return I'll let you live, fail to do so and you'll be given to your citizens to take their revenge out on, got it?" I demand.
Rex just scoffs before coming at me again, intending to hit me once more, but all he gets in his attempt is a nasty shock that renders him unconscious.
"What a pain in the ass." I mutter.
"Alright, you two." I turn to the guards, "take him into the city square and call every single personal there, I have somethings I want to announce."
They nod hesitantly.
"Oh, and." I start, just as they're about to walk out, causing them to look back at me, "take this disgusting pig with you, and chain him up. The citizens have a new toy."
Coral nods firmly and Arden grimaces, but together the two drag their unconscious ex-leader out of the office before going to get everyone into the city centre.
I snoop around Rex's office while I wait, going through everything and anything I can find.
•••
About an hour later, Arden comes back in, looking pale and exhausted.
"They're ready, sir." He says. I nod before putting down the papers I was searching through and follow him outside to the square.
I walk to the stage like area and stand there, staring out at the millions of faces watching me, all of them with different expressions; some of horror, some relief, some gratitude, some anger, etc.
I look around some more and notice Rex has been forced to kneel facing me, his clothes changed to rags and his arms cuffed in front of him, connected to a collar and a pair of leg cuffs. His face bruised and bloodied.
"Citizens of Amphis, your leader has been removed from his position." I start, but get cut off when they break out into cheers and boo's. I wait for them to become silent again before continuing, "he is never allowed to lead, as he was an unfit ruler. There will be a vote, those who wish to become the next leader will have to be voted upon." The people look confused, like they've never heard of voting for who they want to rule, just how long was that motherfucker ruling for?
"That can all be done in good time though, for now, I need as many of you who are willing to fight as possible. I'm assuming all of you know of Knox, the fire elemental angel." I state.
There's an uproar, people shouting to kill him, others saying he's just a child, and others saying he needs help, not death. Others telling me to fuck off and die, and even more others telling Knox to fuck off and die.
"Silence!" My voice booms, and everyone is instantly silent.
"Those who are willing to fight against Knox and join Heaven, step to the left." I state.
Unsurprisingly, no one moves, in fact, they move away from the left side, and then, surprise, surprise, Coral and Arden move to the left, kneeling down and producing their weapons, and in perfect unison, like they had recited it a million times they announce; "my weapon is yours, treat it as such, and I will wield it as such."
Smiling, I walk over to them and motion for them to stand, "thank you, your help is greatly appreciated and you will be rewarded for your help." I bow to them.
Slowly, as if they're like quicksand swallowing a stick, the citizens begin to move to the left, all of them changing into armour, creating their weapons with their given elements and kneeling, pledging themselves to me.
Before long, there's at least half a million people, ready to fight wth me against our common enemy. A victorious grin appears on my lips as I bow to everyone present.
"Since you are all in my care, I will do my absolute best to keep your all safe and return you back home." I announce, knowing I won't be able to keep everyone alive, but I'll be damned if I don't at least try.
War cries echo into the night as everyone celebrates before we depart the next morning, music of all sorts plays loudly into the night, people dance, drink, eat, laugh, cry, etc. into the early hours of morning.
•••
Early the next morning, everyone who volunteered to join the fight, lines up in front of me, dressed in their armour that matches their element, as well as their weapon/s. Husbands and wives stand on the sidelines, waving and crying, wishing them luck and threatening them if they don't return.
Smiling sadly at them, I get their attention.
"Soldiers, listen up." I announce, "I need everyone to connect arms with those around them, everyone must be touching skin and holding on tightly for the teleportation, if you let go, or don't hold on tight enough, you will be lost between space and time, and it's not a fun place to be. You'll die a most painful death, repeatedly until someone can come and save you, but chances of that happening are very slim, so hold tight."
I watch as they all, albeit reluctantly, link arms and hands tightly. I walk over to the closest person and hold his hand tightly, probably almost painfully, but he doesn't react.
"Hold on tightly to our partners!" I shout, before my body, as well as all of the other's are manipulated and changed into a particle like mist, before we're all travelling, speeding through time and space with the speed of light.
We arrive in Heaven within moments, and some people pull away to vomit, others just look queasy.
God walks over, along with the rest of the archangels spread out evenly on both sides and behind him, all dressed in pure white armour, their weapons of choice held at the ready.
"Thank you all for coming, your help is most greatly appreciated, please, follow Uriel to your quarters so you may refresh before we start going over rules and the attack plan." God announces, and the citizens of Amphis nod or bow gratefully before following the young male to their quarters.
Once they have all left, God and the archangels turn to me, looking awed and curious.
"How did you get so many on our side?" Raphael questions curiously.
"Well, let's see." I start, before holding up one finger, "first, I got rid of their previous leader who was disgusting individual, second," I add another finger, "I gave them the choice, third," I hold up three fingers, "the two guards at the gate that I met were the first ones to pledge themselves to me, the others followed their decision, for whatever reason."
Raphael nods, impressed.
"Well, it's thanks to you that we now actually have a chance of keeping Knox out, and beating him back so much, he's not going to try taking Heaven again." Gabriel states, looking proud.
"Shall we go and feast, before we start getting ready for this war that shouldn't be a war?" Castiel questions.
There's a chorus of nods and yeses as the angels all head off to start preparing the feast, leaving just God and I behind, watching them go.
"You should be careful about who you anger, young one. There are those who worshipped Rex, and now that he's out of power, they'll be riled up." God warns.
I nod, "don't worry, I know what I'm doing, and if they want to try and attack me, let them try. It's about time I start fighting back against those who think they can walk all over me anyway."
God just sighs, like he does when he thinks I didn't take in the advice he was offering. I bid him farewell, however, before he can start lecturing and make my way to the training rooms where I begin my own, personal training, something completely different to what everyone else has done, considering I figured out something, that I, as an electricity elemental angel, can do.
Which is-
"Oh? Who knew the rare electricity elemental angel could control the weather too. Aren't you just full of surprises, little Phoenix." A deep, smooth accented voice purrs, like thunder rumbling in the distance.
I freeze.
"Oh, don't tell me you've forgotten about me already, Phoenix." Knox mocks, knowing full well I have not forgotten about him. I turn around slowly.
"What're you doing here, Knox? And how did you even get in here?" I question, skipping right to the point.
Knox motions to the door, "I walked."
I pinch the bridge of my nose slightly, before walking over to stand directly in front of him.
"I meant, how the fuck did you get into Heaven? There's guards patrolling everywhere and teleportation into Heaven is only available to angels who have been given permission by God."
"Yeah? Well, there's a flaw. I am an angel, and I do have God's permission." Knox states.
"What?!" I shout, only to be hit upside the head what with feels like a pan, causing me to crumble to the ground, groaning as my ears ring and my head pounds painfully. I roll over slightly, only to see God standing over me with a grim look.
"I'm sorry Phoenix.. but he has-" God is cut off as Knox kicks me in the head, causing my vision to black out, and it takes a couple of moments to realise that I've lost consciousness.
I manage to weakly send out a mental message to Rune, via a daydream.
I'm standing in a garden, surrounded by poisonous plants leaking red steaming liquid, Rose bushes reach high for the sky, their thorns thick and sharp like knives, covered in black goop.
"Rune?!" I shout, looking around.
"Rune??!"
"Rune?!!? Please! I need you!"
Suddenly, Rune appears on the other side of the plants, looking at me in horror.
"Phoenix?!" He shouts.
"Yes! It's me! I need you to get Zeph and the elemental army in Heaven! Tell them God has been corrupted and I've been taken! You have to hurry though, I don't know how long Knox will keep me around for! Tell the elementals if they're being difficult, or disbelieving that I said; your weapon is yours, treat it as such, and I will help you wield it as such." I manage to shout before everything goes black, and the last thing I hear is a muffled;
"Wait for me, Phoenix, I'll be there soon!"
The End.
