#20 - Evil in Heaven

Phoenix's POV

"Knox." God states, and the creature's mouth splits into an award winning smile, pearly whites gleaming when the sun hits them correctly.

"Wait, hold the phone." I state, putting my wings down a fraction and my hands in a 'T' motion as both God and this "Knox" person turn to look at me.

"You two know each other?" I question, still trying to understand the situation.

I'm slow, okay? I was dropped on my head as a child. Let me question things!

"Yes.. unfortunately." God answers, turning his head to look back at "Knox".

Knox actually pouts and it just makes their features even more attractive.

"You wound me, amica mea." My love. He replies, making me raise an eyebrow at them curiously.

This supposed to be the bad guy, uhh, girl? Person? Thing?

"What are you doing here, Knox? You were banished and a barrier was put in place to keep you out, how are you here?" God ignores Knox's silly attempt at banter and gets right to the point.

Sighing dramatically, Knox shrugs and clicks their fingers, sending a powerful wave of magic crashing into us and knocking God back against me, causing us both to go flying across the room, only to slam into the wall and blood to burst free from our skin as the shattered remains of glass cuts into our skin.

"Your barriers are weak compared to me. I'm here, because I want this realm. And I'll kill you to get it." Knox replies, stalking towards us slowly.

My eyes widen slightly, damn son!

I quickly get to my feet, "I don't think so." I announce, spreading my wings wide and charging them with electrical magic, something that none of the other angels have been able to do.

Knox raises an eyebrow at me, tilting his/her head curiously.

"Ah, an elemental angel. Those are incredibly rare, where on earth, or hell, did you find him?" Knox questions, turning his head to look at God who looks incredibly shocked.

"Elemental angel?" I mouth to myself, and point in confusion.

"Oh, don't tell me you didn't know?~" Knox  mocks and laughs, their deep, smooth, accented voice like distant thunder rumbling in my ears. "Well, I suppose it makes sense you wouldn't know. You've only ever met two other elemental angels and they ended up dead and cursed."

God splutters incoherence for a moment before glaring, "that was not my fault, or my intention, you know that!"

"Yet, it still happened." Knox replies.

There's silence as the two stare and glare, leaving me to stand there in awkward confusion, still trying to make sense of this elemental angel bullshit the weirdo mentioned.

Suddenly, realisation!

"Wait! Are you like me??" I ask, pointing at the Knox creature.

Both of them turn to look at me, slightly annoyed by my presence and my interruptions.

"Yes." Knox replies, jaw clenched.

My eyes widen.

Well shit.

•••

Hi, I'd like to write a letter to my mummy, it'd go something like;
Hey mum, I'm doing okay minus the fact that I'm beiNG HELD HOSTAGE BY A CRAZY DUDE, PERSON, CREATURE THING!

I feel personally, that would make more questions than answers, but that's okay, I'm going stir crazy.

Knox had backup, like, a whole lot of backup. Like, at least ten thousand people as backup for their crazy ass.

Their backup flung themselves in through the shattered window while God and I were preoccupied trying to stop Knox's magic from mashing our faces, only to be smacked upside the head, literally, and dragged to the holding cells.

I know what's being thought; "wow, Heaven has cells?!"

Yes, Heaven has cells, of course it does. What are they supposed to do with those who go rouge or the power gets too much for them, eat them??

No. Last I checked cannibalism wasn't okay.

Instead, under the castle lay a series of carefully warded cells, the bars bronze in colour from age, the ground an uncomfortable, stained cement, with no windows and only candles placed for lights. Inside the cells there lay a small foam bed, an old frayed cotton blanket and a small pillow, on the opposite side to the bed, a quite rusty latrine was shoved into the corner, water softly gurgling in the rusty depths.

God, the archangels, and I got the more "luxurious" cells. The angels that guarded the gates and the ones that fought against Nox were also put into cells nearby, whereas the citizens were either imprisoned too, enslaved or killed, for good. Meaning, they no longer existed, ever.

And on that lovely cheerful note, the bitch itself comes down the stairs into the holding cells, gracing our presence with it's weird ass everythingness.

I still haven't worked out Knox's gender, and I'm not game enough to ask incase it/they take offence and decide to smite my ass on a stick.

"Sleep well, my sweet angels, and God?" Knox asks, their voice still that deep, smooth accented sound, like rumbling thunder in the distance.

"Not really, maybe you could come try it out and see for yourself? Hm?" One of the angels, Raphael, I think, grumbles.

"Hush child." God silences, before I hear him moving in his cell and putting his hands on the bars.

"Knox, let us out. If not me, at least let my children get somewhere safe." God tries to plead.

Knox just laughs, yet there is no humour in their voice.

"So your children," It sneers, "can go get reinforcements and release you and everyone else? I think the fuck not."Knox  hisses, a dark mist appearing around it.

God sighs, defeated and I listen to him taking a seat on his own piece of crap bed.

"Oi, shit face." I kick the door slightly, causing it to make a noise.

Knox snaps their head to look at me, narrowing their lime coloured eyes at me, before slowly stalking towards my cell.

"How long do you think these pathetic little holding cells will hold us for? Hello. They're called holding cells for a reason, they're not used as cages." I inform, leaning against the bars and half sticking my arm through one.

Knox makes a disgruntled noise and swiftly leans forward, grabbing my throat quite tightly in their fist, but I refuse to give them the satisfaction of my suffocation.

I trail my eyes up their torso to their face before making direct, unblinking eye contact.

I feel my body heat as a series of electronic sparks hit the cell bars and bounce off.

"Unhand him, demon!" Someone shouts, I'm assuming it's Gabriel, as that sounds like something he would say.

A chorus of protests take up, until everyone's shouting at the creature in front of me to unhand me, but it seems to ignore them, focusing solely on me and sending their magic out against mine, only to be ricocheted out of my body and around the room.

Flames lick at Knox's boots but they don't seem to notice, barely moving except for a slight shift when the electricity from my body snuffs out the flames.

A dark, bitter grin eventually breaks out on Knox's face as they finally release me and retreat.

"Electricity is the perfect match for fire." Knox mumbles, more so to them self than anyone else in the room.

Suddenly, it's silent as I quietly try to replenish the oxygen back into my lungs.

"Knox.." God starts, but is quickly silenced when Nox waves a hand in his direction, causing God's voice to fade and the only sounds heard being the click of God's tongue as he tries to talk and gets frustrated when he finds his voice is gone.

"Two elemental angels, are much more powerful than just one." Knox muses to itself.

I narrow my eyes at this dumbass creature, "you're nuts if you think for even a second I'll help you in any way. My loyalties lie with those who helped me, and those who deserve my loyalty."

"Yes, but you do know that they're the reason you died in the first place, right?" Knox questions, smiling slyly.

"I know they did, do you think I'm really that stupid? I knew the moment I realised where I was and talked to a couple of the archangels." I answer, leaning against the wall of the cell with my arms still leaning on the bars.

"And that doesn't anger you? Doesn't make you want to rip their wings from their spines and cut their tongues out only to shove them down their throat, and then start cutting their skin from their bones?" Knox questions, looking genuinely confused.

I roll my eyes.

"At first, yes, it did anger me." I reply.

"Aha!"

"But." I start again.

"But, I got to know them and realised they only did what they thought was right, no one knew just what I was going to be, not even God himself." I finish.

Knox rolls their eyes and makes hand motions like a puppet talking.

"Okay shit face, listen up." I announce, standing up straight and stretching slightly.

"Yeah?" Knox questions, raising an eyebrow and getting into a defensive stance.

"You've messed with the people I have come to call family, you literally just stole the guy who I consider a father figure's voice, and you're holding all of us hostage. Not to mention, you think you can use me for your little plans. Well guess what?" I state, spreading my arms above my head and tilting my head back slightly.

"Wha-" Knox's question is cut short as my wings sprout out from behind my back, charged to the tip with electrical currents, I flap my wings once, causing the electricity in my wings to go flying at Nox who barely manages to put up a shield to avoid being electrocuted.

I step closer to the cell bars and use what little fire abilities I have to completely melt the cell bars before slipping through them and stalking my way to Knox, who has called for backup.

"What if I made a deal with you, in which you leave, and never come back." I muse.

Knox scoffs before pausing for a moment.

"Fine." It states, before turning tail and disappearing in a cloud of black misty smoke, leaving behind the scent of fire smoke.

I narrow my eyes where the creature was standing last before hurriedly making my way to the archangels and God, where I then proceed to let everyone out of the cells.

The archangels, once released, hurry off to open the citizen's cells, letting them all out before taking them back to the castle and giving medical attention to those who need it.

I turn to look at God before gently touching his throat and restoring his voice.

"Thank you, young one." He chokes out, coughing slightly as he readjusts to having his voice back.

I smile.

"We're both well aware that, that was way to simple, right?" I question. "I mean.. I don't want to be a downer, but it's obviously going to be back." I point out grimly.

God nods, before breaking into a grim smile, "it?"

I blush slightly, "I can't work out it's gender!"

God laughs, causing me to blush more.

The archangels make their way back over, only to see God laughing so hard that he's close to pissing himself.

"What's happening here?" Castiel questions curiously.

"Phoenix here.." he pauses, laughing more, "doesn't know.. Knox's.. gender." He continues, still laughing, "and called him, an it!"

At this point, God's in full fledged cry laughing mode, and a couple of the other angels join in.

I pout, before registering what gender God referred to the creature as.

"Wait, wait. Knox is a male?" I question.
