#19 - Brother
⚠️Suicide warning, overdosage⚠️
Third Person POV
If you fail once, try again. If you fail twice. Try again, the third time might just be the winning time.
That's what Kasper Knight told himself that night when he locked himself in his room with his syringe and needle, and enough heroine to cause death.
'If at first you don't succeed, try try again.'
"That one little sentence is going to be the thing that does it for me." Kasper whispers softly to himself as he fills up his syringe with pure heroine, no watered down effects for fun times, no.
Kasper doesn't want to have fun anymore, he wants to die. To end the pain of trying to stay sober, the pain of being such a fuck up in his parents eyes, the pain of watching his little brother try to look after him when he can barely look after himself, the pain of being a burden to his family. Kasper's done, and he's ready to finish things properly.
Kasper ties ripped off pieces of a shirt he never liked to both sides of his arms, before using his shaking hand to put the needle into the syringe, he then fills the syringe completely with the drug.
"I won't be a burden anymore.." he whispers, though there's no need.
Kasper takes a deep breath before plunging the needle into one of the veins popping out of his skin. He slams his thumb down on the plunger, pushing the drug into his bloodstream without a second thought.
Kasper then refills the syringe and repeats the process on his other arm. Once finished injecting himself with an amount that will most definitely kill, Kasper unties the rags from his arms and lays down, letting the drug flow freely along side his blood.
Very quickly, his body becomes overwhelmed and starts to shut down. One by one, each of Kasper's most important organs fail and shut down, until his heart is the only one left, struggling to keep everything else going, but it fails.
Kasper's heart stops.
No one knows, not a single soul. Kasper passes into the afterlife completely alone, without ever having said goodbye to his family. He didn't even leave a note.

(Some hours later)
Hannah and Chester arrive home late, long after their sons have fallen asleep. The two parents walk together to check on their youngest son, still worried about him after his suicide attempt. They're pleased and relieved to find Rune sleeping soundly, cuddled up in his blankets.
They both place kisses on Rune's forehead before walking out of his room to check on Kasper, only to find the door is locked.
"Chester? Can you get the spare key to open the door, I just want to check to make sure Kasper is okay. I think he's been having a little bit of trouble settling in back home." Hannah asks.
Chester nods and goes to fetch the key. He unlocks the door after walking back over to his wife. Hannah opens the door and can't help the scream of horror at seeing her son's pale form laid nicely on the bed, slightly dried blood on his arms with a needle and syringe laying beside him. A mostly empty jar of heroin near his hand.
A sob breaks through both parent's lips as they rush over to their pale, slightly cold son.
"Kasper?? Kasper hunny.. please wake up... its mummy.. mummy's here.. please wake up.." Hannah cries and begs, and yet Kasper does not react, his heart stays non-beating.
Hannah and Chester weep for their son, their son that they've lost forever.
Rune wakes up to the sound of sobs, unable to ignore them, he creeps out of his room only to find his parents hugging Kasper's limp, pale body.
Rune's eyes widen in horror as he runs into Kasper's room, clutching his brother tightly as his parents weep and hug each other, trying to find comfort in one another as their eldest son makes his way to Heaven.
Rune's eyes can't contain their tears as they slide down his face in an uncontainable pace, landing on Kasper's pale skin. Rune sobs along with his parents.
They sob for the loss of someone they love, someone who died without a single goodbye, someone who they all thought was better. They blamed themselves, it wasn't their fault Kasper felt he needed to be free. It wasn't their fault he felt trapped, alone, useless, hopeless.
It wasn't Kasper's family's fault he climbed the stairway to heaven, why he ran from his own personal highway to Hell, a hell his family knew nothing of.
Kasper gets welcomed with open arms by God and his archangels, God embraces him tightly.
"My child, I pray you'll live happier here, and I pray we can help you." He speaks gently before slowly guiding Kasper to his room, a waiting room. A room that will determine if he is worthy of Heaven, or an imposter.
Chester and Hannah don't move, neither does Rune as they all huddle together, holding Kasper's lifeless body, hoping it was all a sick joke, but it wasn't.
Kasper was really gone. Rune no longer has a brother, Hannah and Chester no longer have two sons.
The three remaining family members cried, they cried so hard they thought they might pass out, and when the ambulance arrived, they cried again, harder, because now they had to say goodbye, and start preparing for a funeral, a funeral none of them were ready to attend.
A funeral none of them ever thought they would have to attend, yet they will. Because Kasper was gone, and they had to lay his body to rest.
They had to say goodbye, forever.
