#15 - Meet Me At The Gates

Phoenix's POV

Shouts and screams filled with horror echo through the marble castle, people rush around trying to figure out what's wrong, but everything looks normal.

I launch myself out of bed, careful not to trip and then race out of my room, colliding with a few people. I quickly try to locate the archangels or even God, but none of them are visible.

Biting my lip worriedly, I quickly dodge through the panicking public and run outside, only to see balls of fire in the sky, heading straight for the castle.

"Well crap." I mutter unsteadily and quickly look around for the archangels again.

Finally, I spot them after more running around and head straight towards them, only to be knocked down by a large fireball. The smell of burning brings me back to my senses as I quickly move to stamp out the fire burning holes in my clothes.

"Fucking Hell." I mutter before launching to my feet and releasing my wings so that I can fly up to where the archangels are going blow for blow with some weird ass looking fire creature.

Bright blue ice meets fiery red as the creature launches fireball after fireball towards the angels, only for them to freeze the balls midair, before letting them crash land into the water below.

I fly up to join the other archangels, ready to use my newly discovered abilities to help remove this villainous creature from invading more and killing the innocents.

I launch bright forest green spurts of magic directly at the creature before swiftly flying closer. I create a sword of pure yellow before swooping down and nailing the creature in the eyes and face to distract and incapacitate it while the archangels fly closer and start attacking it one-on-one.

Suddenly, a large rouge fireball slips past us and slams into the marble castle, shattering the material instantly upon impact before the fire starts climbing the walls.

"Shit! The castle!" I shout as the creature tries to swipe at me.

"I got it!" Raphael shouts back before taking off flying straight for the castle where he uses his magic to freeze the fire before it can destroy anything else in its path of fury.

Turning my attention back to the creature, I'm instantly hit with what feels like a semi-truck. Shouts of worry echo throughout all of the angels as I start plummeting down, down to the sharp rocky ground.

A sense of deja vu washes over me as I get a flash back to when I fell from the cliff. A sharp, ear piercing scream leaves my mouth as I flail wildly, panic seizing hold of my body and causing my mind to react to the fear.

My wings spread suddenly and I stop falling and start to hover as I place a hand over my racing heart, pants swiftly leaving my mouth as I try to calm myself from my near death experience.

I quickly soar up to the creature and ram my sword into its eye before removing it, along with the eye.

"Yuck." I mutter and kick the eyeball off my sword before going back again and repeating the process at least 9 more times.

Once the creature no longer has the sense of sight, the archangels and I all group together and connect our hands, letting out magic flow together and strengthen before slamming it into the creature where it is eradicated, and dissolves into dust that shimmers slightly before disappearing completely.

Panting heavily, the archangels and I all collapse on the ground while the civilians of Heaven all crowd around, cheering and thanking us. I smile at them as multiple people come over to kiss and say a prayer for myself and the other angels.

As people start to calm down, I sneak away from the others and head to the gates of Heaven where I had to come through when I first arrived.

I stand there, looking down at the stairway and enjoying the cool breeze that ruffles my hair, yet my thoughts don't stay calming for long.

My thoughts are quickly plagued by the 'dream' I had of Rune and the fact he was covered in thick bandaging from his wrist to his elbow, along with the way he talked to me, like he had given up and tried to take matters into his own hands- like he tried to kill himself.

"It is a beautiful view, is it not?" A voice says softly behind me, causing me to stiffen slightly before turning to look at who spoke.

Zeph smiles gently at me as he walks over to stand beside me, our shoulders almost touching.

"Do you miss it? Earth I mean." Zeph questions softly, shifting his weight onto one leg before turning to look at me properly.

"I do. I left somebody very special to me behind, God promised to let me go back to him soon, but I don't know when that'll be, or even if it will happen, but I know I have to go back soon. The person I left behind.. well.. he's not doing too well." I reply softly, feeling a chill slide up my spine and create goosebumps along my skin.

Zeph nods, "I left someone special behind too." He smiles lightly, but it's a sad smile.

"My baby sister.. I left her alone with our parents." His expression darkens at the mention of his parents.

Frowning deeply, I turn to look at him properly.

"You have problems with your parents?" I ask gently.

Zeph nods, his expression darkening more until his usually green eyes can't even be spotted.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I question again, making sure to keep the same gentle tone.

"My parents.." he starts before sighing, "they beat us. They have done every single drug to name, and drank every single type of alcohol. They would beat us just for fun. It's actually how I ended up here.." Zeph rubs his face, worry lines incredibly obvious.

My heart bleeds for him as I wrap an arm around his shoulders and gently rub his back.

"They came home, having tried something new and started beating me, worse than they usually do, before forcing me to take the drugs.. they then continued to beat me until I passed out.." a shuddering breath leaves his lips.

"When I woke... I was here.." Zeph finishes softly. My heart aches and squeezes constructingly for him.

"That's not fair. That's not fair at all. You're coming with me when I leave, okay? We need to get your baby sister away from those psychopaths. I'll help you and I'm sure my mother won't give a damn if I bring you two home with me, I'll be damned if I leave you two separated and her in the hands of those demons." I state, making no room for argument as I hug Zeph closer.

Zeph just smiles and rests his head on my shoulder as we watch and greet all the new arrivals.

Third Person POV

God watches as Phoenix and Zeph chat and greet every single new arrival that scales the stairway of Heaven to the Gates.

Gabriel, Raphael and Castiel all walk quietly to stand with God and watch the two boys talk and greet the newcomers. None of them say a single thing as they watch.

"We'll have to let them go, you know that right?" Castiel says softly, feeling a slight pang in his chest at the thought of watching his new friends leaving.

"I know.." God breathes gently, an air of sadness about him. Raphael leans over and hugs him.

"They were never supposed to be here, you even said that yourself." He whispers.

God nods and hugs him back, nuzzling his hair like a father would their son. The air of sadness around him thickens until tears start to slip from his eyes.

"Aw, please don't cry. We'll see them again, when their time comes.." Gabriel says softly, before rubbing God's back as he cries silently.

Castiel winces sympathetically.

"We'll see them both again, along with the ones they love with all their hearts, you know that. We can even visit them in their dreams to see how they are doing." He attempts to comfort them as Raphael's eyes leak tears along with Gaberiel's.

Soon all the other archangels arrive and create a group hug with God, all of them crying gently. The air's thick with sadness as they all cry for the brothers and sons they will be losing until their time comes.

"It's the right thing to do.." Castiel sniffles softly.

"I know.." God whispers gently, hugging all the archangels to him tighter.

Uriel wails suddenly, "I don't want them to goooo!"

Soft chuckles, heavy with sadness slip past all the angel's lips as they take turns ruffling his hair. God laughs gently and kisses the top of his head.

"None of us do." He says gently.

The angels and God all hug for a while longer until the angels slowly start to pull away, saying goodbye and hugging their father figure tightly before heading back inside the marble castle where they start helping to prepare food for the next mealtime.

Soon, only God and Castiel are left watching as Zeph and Phoenix hug and introduce themselves to the new arrivals.

"We have to let them go.." Castiel whispers softly before kissing God's cheek and making his way back inside the castle like the other angels had done.

God sighs softly, knowing he'll have to let them both go once they're both prepared, since they both were not ready to come to Heaven just yet. Although he wished he didn't have to, he understood the balance and need for their return.

"Soon." He whispers as he watches the two walk off to get the food the Angels had helped prepare.

Soon they would be reunited with their loved ones, but not just yet. Until then, God would enjoy their company and silliness until they were gone.

He would spend as much time with his sons until they were ready to leave and go back to their old lives. Soon, they would return, and the balance would be fixed.

Soon.
