Chapter 7

"ENTRY NUMBER 6;  Asgore asked everyone from outside the city for monsters that had 'fallen down', their bodies came in today." The recording paused for a moment, Alphys didn't seem like her normal kind self in these, she seemed distant to almost an evil extent, the voice continued.

"They're still comatose... And soon, they'll all turn to dust." She said, pausing and taking a sip of something before getting back to what she was saying.

"But what happens if I inject "DETERMINATION" Into them? If their souls persist after they parish, than... Freedom might be closer than we all thought." The recording said and its voice clicked off moments later, what happened?

"Where are we?" Toriel asked, she had never been this deep in the lab, they saw a bunch of operating tables and another of the signs lit up. Undyne pushed the small black button on the bottom corner of the small screens with neon green text, the voice started up just like it did with the others and Undyne felt a little calmer hearing her girlfriend's familiar voice.

"ENTRY NUMBER 9; Things aren't going well, none of the bodies have turned to dust, so I cant get the SOULs." It paused, they realized it had skipped numbers again, they wondered where the other ones were, maybe down the other hallway. Either way her voice sounded distraught, so chalk full of emotion it was leaking out and coating over her words.

"I told the families I would give the dust back for the funerals, people are starting to ask me what's happening, what do I do?" Alphys asked in the audio as her voice was sad and burdened, a deep and heaving sigh leaving the speakers before a click and the old audio recording had gone off, Toriel felt terrible as she had allowed her friend to bare this burden.

"What is this place? What... Why?" Undyne's slightly choked up voice asked, her voice echoing off of the room. Why did her girlfriend need to hide this from her, they looked around the room. She dragged a finger softly against the surface of the operating table, she noticed how it was slightly sticky with a white substance, she quickly retracted her arm, there were small pools of water on the floor and sinks up against the wall along with a table. Papyrus handed Undyne his brother's lifeless looking body and being himself and going over to the faucets with a grin, turning each one on but on the third one, nothing came out. He turned it on then off then on again, it still didn't work, Undyne let out a chuckle.

"It might just be broken Pap-" Undyne was cut off by a thick white substance leaking out of the drain and into the sink, it filled the sink and overflowed a little and Frisk stood infront of the group with a determined look on their face, a only cartoon like smiling face was in the pale white goop before it suddenly jumped up and formed a terrifying creature with several faces but Frisk didn't jump back they stood with an expression no one could place.

"My child!" Toriel said, the child stayed infront of her and Toriel hoped that Frisk knew what they were doing as she allowed the small child to do what they must but was ready to attack if need be, she would defend her child.

"Come join the fun!" The garbled and constantly shifting melted mess's there heads said in unison, Undyne summoned a spear just in case it went badly but it was hard to do while Sans was in her arms so she handed him back to Papyrus, Frisk simply shook their head at the monster who then threw some sort of things on the ground. Frisk moved around them as they bubbled up into large smiling faces, this entire place including the water was creepy, the goopy monster's heads moved unnaturally.

"But nobody came." The heads chanted in a quire of terror, Undyne wouldn't admit it but she was absolutely terrified of everything happening.

"It's a real get together." The monster chanted before spewing another array of the strange disks that were spread around Frisk's feet, they seemed to go more and more white before they would bubble up, one managed to knock some HP off of Frisk but that just made them dodge with more alacrity.

"Go Frisk!" Undyne encouraged but the monster looked as if it just didn't care anymore, the monster moved around a little as if searching for something then slunk down the drain and left something red in the sink, Frisk picked it up and stuffed it in their pocket.

"Frisk, what is that?" Toriel asked, obviously not wanting to take one of those things home.

"A key." Frisk replied, pulling it out and showing it to the motherly figure but then shoving it back into their pocket and continuing to walk up to a small room, they entered and there was a slot for a key along with a small and torn note on the ground, it was damp but this time with water. Undyne still felt uneasy as she paced through the room slightly, avoiding the small puddles of some sort of liquid that she hoped to be water.

"I can't read most of it but it says something about dropping something in the sink, it's Alphys's handwriting." She said, they felt like they were connecting the dots in some kind of puzzle, and a sick and twisted one at that. Frisk slotted the key in and turned it, a bright red and flashing light coming on soon after, Frisk felt proud of themselves as they were followed out of the room and back down the long hallway. Their steps and heaving breaths were echoed off the unsettlingly dark hallways as Papyrus hadn't said anything since the monster had attacked, he just held his brother in complete silence, something was going on in the small skeleton's mind and everyone wished that they knew exactly what or that they could help but they couldn't.

"Okay, so where are we going?" Undyne asked as they walked through the grey sliding door that had a bright red symbol on the front, Frisk just pointed forward as they were met with another hallway, everyone stopped to read the sign. Toriel and Papyrus both silently hoping Sans was alright as Frisk pressed the button, voice coming out soon after.

"ENTRY NUMBER 12; Nothing is happening, I don't know what to do. I'll just keep injecting everything with 'DETERMINATION', I want this to work." The voice said with no emotion as if she felt absolutely nothing as she spoke, that did make a little sense singe she was working with almost dead subjects, she was so very emotionally distant.

"ENTRY NUMBER 13; One of the bodies opened its eyes." It read, there was no audio recording and when Undyne pressed the button she was just met with soft static.

"What the hell?" Undyne cursed, Toriel gave a glare and Undyne gave a sorry look in response, even under this much pressure she stood by her morals strongly, it was comforting.

"Sorry." Undyne said, walking through the next doorway and into the presiding room where there were quite a few beds and a dog food bowl? Undyne remembered how Alphys grabbed some dog food, she went into a stance but decided not to tell the others given it might terrify them enough to make the situation worse.

"My child, why are we here?" Toriel asked as she held the child's hand tightly, the child pulled her past the singular bed with no covers as apposed to all the other made ones and came to one that had the covers pulled up to far, Frisk swiftly pulled back the blankets and looked down. There sat a shiny yellow key, Frisk was quick to slip it onto their keychain, they next had two ways to go, upwards were there was a sign or sideways where it seemed to follow along the current trend of terrifying hallways.

"What..." Undyne trailed off, scrapping her question for now as she was led behind the group but quickly maneuvering to the front as she remembered the danger. Golden flowers, everyone felt very uneasy but theirs combined could never match up to Toriel's gut wrenching pain that consumed her as she scanned the golden flowers, they pressed the button on the sign present and instead of static her voice was heard, good.

"ENTRY NUMBER 7; We'll need a vessel to wild the monster SOULs when the time comes. After all, a monster cannot absorb the SOULs of other monsters. Just as a human SOUL cannot absorb a human soul, so then... What about something that's neither human nor monster?" The recording ended, she sounded slightly saddened but also very numb, they moved to the next sign and pressed the small button, hands quaking as they did so, everything was so strange no one knew what to think anymore, why?
