Chapter 15

Sans walked around the town, the sunrise peeking through small holes in the mountain but the dim white of the barrier blocked out most of the sky, Sans sighed softly as he wandered, had he really been walking all night?

"Y-Yo, s-stay back!" A voice called, it sounded like a child's tone but the kid obviously had an accent, maybe from waterfall. Either way Sans' head whipped towards the distressed sound as his soul started violently throwing itself towards his chest, pulling him towards the disruption as he wondered why this was happening.

"Just give us your bag, and you don't have to get hurt, kid." The other monster spat, the child tried to run away as the bag bounced on their back but they tripped.

"Hey!" Sans exclaimed as he teleported in-between the two monsters, he hoped to stop the fighting, but instead of peace he was met with an attack that he barely dodged.

"What..." Sans muttered, the corner of his hoodie ripped slightly by the oncoming attack, his anger pooled in his stomach.

"No." Sans said bitterly, his hand engaging with a bright blue fire that matched the flame dispersing from his eye, this lit up the surroundings enough to see the attacker's face, he was a raccoon monster with a small scar over his cheek, but the one thing that Sans noticed was... He wasn't alone, two goons stood behind him.

"Sans? Oh my goodness, you're hurt!" The child said, Sans recognized that voice, it was Monster Kid, they were trying to steal from a child? His hands started to shake, he knew he couldn't hold out much longer, he had to get everyone away from himself because when he snapped this wasn't gonna be pretty.

"I'm fine kid, g-get out of here." Sans said as he felt powerful magic surge through him, he didn't know where it was coming from or why he had it, but at the moment he couldn't find it within himself to care abut anything other than dealing out justice.

"But Sans, you're hurt!" MK knew that something was off, the skeleton was usually so calm and chill (Pun intended) but now he was shaking like a leaf in the wind, not to mention the magic surges that spilled that water from the falls.

"Y-Yo! I'll get help!" MK immediately knew something was wrong, he remembered that Papyrus was Sans' brother, Papyrus could help him. The child rushed off towards the taller monster's house, hoping the door was unlocked, which thankfully, it was.

"PAPYRUS, YO PAPYRUS, PLEASE WAKE UP!" The child yelled as they tripped and fell face first on the carpet but quickly tried to get up again, Toriel was the first to awaken from the disturbance given she was right next to a screaming child, next was Papyrus, then Frisk, then Alphys and Undyne, after them it was probably the rest of the neighborhood but they didn't matter at the moment.

"Please calm down, we need to know what's wrong before we can help y-" Toriel was cut off by the child's panting and out of breath voice as they stumbled back towards the door.

"I-It's Sans! S-Someone was trying to, like, rob me, he stepped in, he's hurt yo!" MK panted, the rest of the group stood up, not caring they were in pajamas as they ran out the door and into the snow where they were not met with silence, but with a scene they never would have expected to see.

"S-Sans?" Alphys asked, the group of thugs were held in place, their souls corrupted with blue magic as they were thrown away from Sans, they quickly got to their feet and ran as fast as they could but Sans just collapsed to the snow. He was shaking violently as the group ran over to help their friend, blue magic surrounding him and lighting the premises as he seemed to be muttering to himself, almost trying to calm himself down?

"SANS!" Papyrus shouted, running over to his brother with no idea how idiotic that was, his soul was suddenly corrupted by a royal blue as he was thrown against the group who then toppled like dominos. Once everyone got back up, they looked to Papyrus, just to make sure but his face was completely distraught.

"H-He... Sans, he's having a magic attack, I need to help him." Papyrus said, a new level of determination crossing his features, Undyne trusted him.

"Alright, how can we help?" Undyne asked with a nod, the rest of the group nodding along to let him know they weren't gonna let any of their friends get hurt, not when they could do something to help them avoid it.

"I need to get close to him, this hasn't happened in such a long time though, it might not even work..." Papyrus trailed off, losing some of his determination but Undyne placed a hand over his shoulder before Alphys spoke.

"W-What might not w-work?" Alphys asked with her game face on, Toriel cocked her head to the side and Frisk just looked over at Sans, the small skeleton still shaking violently against the frozen ground and soft snow.

"It's some kind of healing magic, I've never really understood it, but I can kind of, calm him?" Papyrus tried, looking back towards his brother.

"I've got an idea, everyone else stay back. Papyrus? Alpha then gamma." Was all she said, walking towards Sans, slowly scoping out the area. Alpha then gamma? What on earth... Suddenly, it clicked, she was talking about attack patterns. Alpha was approaching carefully, usually used in hostage situations, gamma was a quick a precise maneuver when one monster distracts and draws fire, while the other sneaks up behind.

"Yes ma'm!" Papyrus exclaimed, quickly walking to where the edge of the circular zone that Sans would not let anyone enter started, both looked at each other for a brief moment. Only brief enough for them to nod before Undyne summoned several spears from all different directions. Papyrus ran around to the other side, Sans continued to quiver but was slowly risen to his feet by his own magic, Undyne ran around the walls of bones, though she had several graze her or lower her HP she was alright, that was when Papyrus noticed an opening in his defenses.

"Brother!" Papyrus exclaimed as he jumped his brother, Sans tried to fight it, one of his blasters appearing and opening it's maw when suddenly a warm tangerine color melted the attacks around them, the blaster shut off it's powerful beam and looked somewhere in-between content and confused, the bones dissipated into small specks of dust in the air before floating away with the wind.

"It will be alright, it will be okay." Papyrus continued to whisper words of calming encouragement to his brother, Sans tried to push away but his soul longed for the contact, it thumped against his ribcage rhythmically in time with his brothers soul. The orange color continued to tint the magical mist that shrouded the snow, the warmth of Sans' brother's magic being to much, he launched himself into the younger's hold and started to sob.

"I... I-I almost, k-killed... A-Again... I-I'm sorry..." Sans apologized, Papyrus just continued to hush and embrace him. The rest of the monsters watched in awe as Papyrus healed, a wisp of marmalade magic reached out to Undyne, she tried to back away from it but it stayed around a for away from her, she sighed and stopped. Suddenly, Undyne felt emotions, joy, sadness, hate, but most importantly, love. She felt the warmth wrap around her, her wounds healing with the magic as she felt a few tears dribble down her cheeks.

"H-Huh?" Alphys stuttered, several wisps of magic coming towards the group but stopping a moment away, as if asking permission, when everyone stopped the magic allowed them to feel the warmth Papyrus emanated, the love he gave out giving everyone emotions they couldn't name if they tried. A few moments later, the glow dissipated, Sans fell fast asleep, and with all of the beautiful things she had just experienced, Undyne chose to say...

"Papyrus... WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?" Undyne yelled as she ran to the small skeleton, looking straight into the eyes of Papyrus who just calmly smiled and shushed her, she looked into his arms as he stood up only to be met with a sleeping Sans, he still had small tear stains on his cheeks but other than that he had gotten out of it completely unscathed.

"Ugh, what is it with Sans and being knocked unconscious? I swear, he has a friends with benefits thing going on with death." Undyne said, a soft chuckle being heard from Sans.

"M-Maybe I do, I don't kiss and tell." Sans muttered with a soft cough, Papyrus's grin widened.

"SANS!" Papyrus exclaimed, hugging his brother to his chest in a bone crushing (heh) hug.

"Uh, bro, I-I kinda need t-to breathe." Sans reminded, Papyrus immediately loosened his grip.

"Sorry, are you alright? I didn't know if that would work, you haven't had a magic attack in such a long time, I was so scared!" Papyrus admitted, Sans smiled.

"Hey, hey, it's okay." Sans muttered.

"Why don't we get some more sleep, I don't you about the rest of you but I'm beat." Sans muttered, one question was still lingering in the air, waiting to be asked.

"U-Umm Sans? D-Do you h-have your memory b-back?" Alphys asked, Sans sighed and shook his head.

"Bits and pieces, but nothing solid, sorry." Sans said with a soft sigh, Alphys nodded, they slowly walked back to the skeleton brother's home but Sans wasn't walking.

"Uh, Paps, you can put me down now." Sans said as soon as they entered the home.

"You said you were tired." Papyrus reasoned, walking up the stairs and keeping him held in his arms, Sans felt himself be set down in the bed and the child shuffle under the covers soon after, Sans smiled, soon falling asleep to the comforting silence but his sleep was not nearly as comforting.
