CHAPTER 4
Tosin was the one who had woken me up again. We had done our usual morning jog, and were back in our rooms. It was Denim Day. I wore a short blue denim skirt, with a white bra top and a blue denim jacket, alongside my white sneakers. Tosin had left the room before me. She wore a boyfriend jean, with a magenta crop top and white sneakers. Her hair was packed into a full bun, she had really long hair I envied her.
I called Esse to ask her where they were, she had told me that they were waiting for me at the end of the lobby. When I got there, they were all there, they were waiting for me. I smiled to them with a wave as I approached them.
"The day you'd be the first to get here, I guess we'd have to celebrate," Soma joke, making everyone laugh.
"It's not a guess Soma, we'd have to celebrate," Amarachi said, making them laugh even harder.
I scoffed. "Don't worry, I'll shock you all," I said in defense, but knew deep down that I most likely, most definitely wasn't. I needed my full time to get ready.
They laughed.
We began to make our way to the hall. We weren't separated like we had been the day we arrived. We were allowed to mix up and seat down with whosoever we wanted to. We sat down somewhere around the back, the back bench was mostly more fun. We had only just settled down, when lot of head began to turn towards the door.
"Yeah, that's him," someone said around where we were. "The so called Prince guy," they added.
My head involuntarily turned to the door. It was Khalid and two other boys, they had just been arriving. They all looked rich, with clear and very nice skin. It was like there was a fresh atmosphere when they arrived, people began to murmur and side-talk about them. I scoffed, he did carry the crown along.
I smiled to myself. He had a free black trousers on, with a white shirt, tucked in with no belt. He also had a blue denim jacket on, with white sneakers. I smiled to myself again, he did know how to dress, and combine his accessories well.
"Hmm, Lover Boy is quite the star, uh," Toyosi whispered in my right ear, making me smiling.
"His name's Khalid, not 'Lover Boy'," I whispered back.
She scoffed. "So, Lover Boy it is," she replied.
I scoffed.
He eyes searched the crowd like he was hoping to see someone, and as I hoped, not long his eyes jammed mine. But, I didn't give him the chance to smile at me, as I quickly turned away. I wasn't ready for the attention that was going to bestow on me.
I smiled to myself.
The Captain cleared his throat into the mic, drawing our attention back to the podium. "Today, we talk about the game of this year's 'Annual Students Vacation'." He cleared his throat again, then began. "This year's game is called 'The Love Game'." He paused for a while, then continued, "It is a game that has to do with two people approaching each other, flirting, and doing almost all the stuff that lovers' do, while trying not to fall in love for each other at the same time."
Murmurs began to arise from all corners of the hall, making it sound so rowdy.
The Captain's whistle came sounding loudly from the podium, making silence fall on the hall as only light murmurs were heard. "And." His voice rang louder this time around. "There are rules in the game. 'I Love You', is allowed to be used. Intercourse is not allowed, in any form. You're not allowed to be with more than one person at a time – another person is allowed a few hours after the break up, not immediately. No physical arm or combat is allowed." He paused for a while. "The winner would walk out of this compound, with a 600 thousand naira cheque, and any phone of their choice." He paused again, allowing a huge form of noise to rise, as people gawked at the price. I couldn't deny the fact that I was only of the very surprised people. That was a lot of money. It was way lots, that I began considering entering the game. But, I also had little or no faith. The Captain blew his whistle again, making us quiet down once more. He stared at our faces for a while, looking around. "That's all." With that, he got down from the podium, and began to head out.
The hall immediately scatted and became noisy. People who had been admiring themselves, began to approach each other. A girl who had a voluminous long curls on, began to shout, "Registrations here." She sat close to the door, as she kept on calling. A couple of people were already signing up. Some were girls and girls, some guys and girls, while some where guys and girls. Slowly, a queue was forming in front of the girl.
We had stood up also, and had formed a circle. "So, who is going in for this stuff?" Amarachi asked everyone.
"Not me," Soma said, sparing Toyosi a glance, making her blush.
I scoffed. "Ugh, get a room." I groaned.
"Please," Aisha added.
They laughed.
"No one then?" Amarachi confirmed with a question. We all shook our head. "Okay then, let's hang before its lunch time."
"Let's just go back to where we were seating," Alimah suggested.
With that, we began to head towards where we sat. I was about to seat down, when Aisha's fixed gaze to what was behind me and smile, made me turn back, only to be greeted with a smiling Khalid. "Long time no see," he said with a smile.
I scoffed. "We saw a day before yesterday," I replied with a shrug.
"Felt like a year to me. And besides, I didn't see you again that day, so," he said with a smile as he dragged the 'so', making me scoff. He was good with his words, that was scary. "Hello," he greeted everyone.
They all replied with, "Hey."
"Err... we were already planning to go to the bar," Amarachi quickly said. "Weren't we?" she asked no one in particular, earning nods.
"Oh, yes we were," Toyosi jumped in. "We would see you later Dear." With that, they all stood up and left, leaving me speechless.
All I could think about at that point in time, was how much of a sly they were.
"It's just you and me now uh," Khalid dragged me out of my thoughts, making me smile.
"I guess," I replied with a smile.
He nodded with a smile. "So, I forgot to ask for your number the last time, got way too engrossed," he said, making me nod. "So, can I have it now?"
I smiled to myself. For some reasons, I felt like stalling a little, so I scoffed. "Wouldn't that be too easy? Uh?"
He looked at me with a smirk. "You play too much."
I chuckled and shrugged.
"Okay then, what do you want me to do?" he asked.
I shrugged. "Why don't you figure that out? Uh?"
He smiled. "Yes ma." And with that, we started talking about random things, getting to know each other a little. From how he spoken, I figured out his dad was going to be someone way strict, and the Prince stuff didn't really have a plenty lot of enjoyment to it. He never directly told me, but he unconsciously showed it. Like he had to conform to a particular way of acting or living. And somewhere within, I felt a strong sense of pity for him.
We had spoken for a long while, before Collins called to tell me it was time for lunch again. And with that, I had to leave him.
He was addictive, I almost didn't want to leave.
