CHAPTER 3
The next day, we were allowed to do basically anything, even staying in the room all day. They decided my room was going to be our meeting point. I had tried to warn them about Tosin, but they promised to not make a lot of noise. I hesitantly agree. I felt I should have let Tosin know about them coming over, but I was also trying to avoid her ignoring me, so I just kept busy with my phone. I had Khalid on my mind, smiling to myself as I created scenarios in my mind. He really was charming and addictive. I had only just met him, but also couldn't get him off my mind. His voice kept on ringing in my head, and his really perfect smile kept on coming to my mind. It was like I was in love. But, I didn't want to tag it as that, I had only just met him the day before.
I was smiling foolishly on my bed, playing with my thumb nail with my teeth, when there was gentle knock on the door. Neither Tosin nor I was able to ask 'who was there', when Amarachi's voice singingly said, "We are here."
I didn't spare Tosin a glance as my lips spread into a wide smile, jumping off my bed to go open the door for them. And as expected, they came in baring a lot of noise. Tosin gave me a questioning look as I shut the door behind me, finally sparing her a glance. I didn't know how to explain to her, so I gave her an apologetic look, making her look away with a frown. She put her earphone back into her ear, and she grabbed her novel and brought it up to her eyes as she laid with her back on her bed.
"Hey Tosin," Toyosi tried greeting her, but she had ignored and kept on reading her book. Toyosi and Tosin had been in the same class, before she left. She had told us that morning, when we were having breakfast - where my room had been picked to be the room for our gathering that, Tosin hadn't been like that in Junior Secondary school. That she started to act that was that, it was when she came back from the long vacation between Jss2 and Jss3. She also said that, rumor had it that, it was because she had lost her twin brother to an unfortunate circumstance. It sounded so sad, that every dislike I had for her washed away, and all I felt was pity.
"She probably can't hear you," Esse said in a calm voice as she sat on my bed. They all began to seat down. My bed could only contain Esse and myself, making the rest seat on the floor, while Collins quickly grabbed the chair by the table close to my bed.
"So, how are your roommates?" Joseph asked. "Except you Ebun," he added, as I had open my mouth to reply.
I scoffed and folded my hands on my bosom. "Rude much."
Everyone laughed.
Collins was the first to talk about his roommate, then the rest followed. They all had nice things to say, and all got students from other schools. I wondered why I got a student from our school, and it was then someone I was close to, and also some that didn't socialize. I groaned to myself. They all seemed excited about their roommates.
They had all finished talking, when Collins asked, "How far Lover Boy?"
I smiled at his words, using my leg to kick him a little.
"Awwn, see how you're blushing," Aisha commented with a smile.
"What? No. I'm not blushing," I tried to straighten my face, but was failing woefully. They all had a mocking expectant expression on, making me shrug. "I really don't know," I said with a smile.
"Wait, you guys didn't exchange numbers?" Soma asked with a questioning smile, making me nod.
"Oh my God," Amarachi expressed. "You're telling me that, after those hours of talking, you didn't exchange numbers?"
I nodded with a shrug.
Toyosi slapped her forehead in slight frustration, sighing. "You're terrible."
I shrugged and looked away shying, thinking of how to change the topic. "Well, tomorrow is what day?" I asked, hoping it was going to change the topic.
"Denim day," Adijah replied with a smile.
"Yay, I can't wait," Amarachi said with a smile.
"Is it just me, or that Captain guy is really good looking," Esse said out of the blues, making Joseph move uncomfortably, where he was seating.
I nodded in agreement, ignoring his reaction. "Hmm, true. And he's tall," I added with a smile.
"I wonder what his name is," Alimah wondered, bringing her right and to her chin to display thinking.
"Juwon," We all heard from Tosin's side.
"Huh?" My gaze moved to Tosin.
She shrugged. "Oluwajuwon, that's his name," she said with a faint smile,
"You like him," Aisha commented, squinting her eyes in a suspicious manner.
"Like? What's that?" Tosin tried hard to mask her blush, earning an 'hmm' from all of us, which made her blush out. "Oh, please."
We all hmmed again.
She chuckled. "Whatever." With that, she went back to reading her book.
It was then I realized she had been listening to us the entire time. It was either her volume was very low, or she had been listening to nothing and put her earphone on so no one spoke to her.
I smiled to myself.
We began talking of random things, our small and funny life experiences. Toyosi and her friends talked about how day school felt like, while talked about how boarding was. Toyosi tried to catch up with all the latest school gist. We laughed out loud, and Tosin jumped in every now and then. There was even a time she went all in, dropping her novel down. She had her fun part too, but chose when to show it. We all converged again after lunch, spending all our day hanging out. There we times we did nothing but pressed our phones and showed ourselves memes.
I was glad I had them there with me.
