CHAPTER 10

I was panting when we got to the swing. I had not been exercising at all, that only that short distance made me so weak and tired. Khalid was perfectly fine when we got there, he even had a wide smile on his face. "Lazy much," he joked.

"Oh please," I replied in between my pants as I slapped the hair with my right hand.

He chuckled. "Get on."

I tried to even my breath as I got on the second swing to the left. They were five swings, but that was the one I was closest to.

Khalid smiled to me as he went to my back. "Are you ready?"

I nodded and shot my right hand to the air. "Let's do this."

He didn't wait for me to warn him not to push too hard, before he pushed the swing and I was up. I tightened my grip on the swing ropes, shouting. I didn't have time to look around to see if I was disturbing people, as my eyes were tightly close. Khalid didn't let me settle as he pushed me again, harder, making me shout, "Oh my gawd!" I could hear his laughs and chuckled as he kept on pushing, making me make loud noise.

It wasn't until after the seventh round, before he stopped. "You're going to be such a screamer," he mocked me as I got down from the swing, trying to stable my shaky feet.

"I'll kill you Khalid. That's a promise," I threatened him as I wobbled my way to him, making him smile as he let me fall into his arms.

He laughed. "I wish."

"I hate you."

He chuckled. "I know right."

And, with that, he began to lead me to a cement bench. The benches we designed in a way to contain either one or two persons. He let me seat down first, before he then sat down beside me. I chuckled to myself as I rested my back on the back of the bench, slouching back so my head could also rest as I look at the sky. It was becoming dark. It was then I realized, time seemed really short whenever I was with him. He made me want to stop time, so I could be with him longer. Khalid laughed at my plight, making me scoff.

We sat down in silence as I watched the sky, trying to clear my mind from every thought. He joined me, also staring at the sky in silence. After a very long while, as the sky had darkened a lot more, he spoke. "What's on your mind?" he asked.

"Nothing, you?"

He sat up, turning to look at me. "For reals?"

"No cap."

I sat up too, so we could be looking at each other. The playground had become way scanty, I feared we had spent too much time there.

He frowned. So, I asked him again. "You?"

"A lot."

"Wanna talk about it?"

"At the right time."

I nodded.

"So, tell me about your past relationship," I stretched as I adjusted on the chair, my bum was hurting a little.

"How I wish you never asked," he said in a low tone, making me give him a worried look.

"I'm sorry," I apologized.

"No, it's okay. It's just, you might judge me."

I chuckled. "Try me, I suck at judging."

He thought for a while, before he then nodded. "My first girlfriend was in JSS2. She was a fair igbo girl and was every guys crush at that time," He paused for a while, then continued, "I really love and could do anything for her. I fed her, gave her money – lots of money, and made her feel very comfortable, I also didn't let her lack affection or words of compliment, we were happy. But, all these was only for only JSS 2 first term. She changed her school, JSS 2 second term. I was really hurt and kept on telling my mom of how I wanted to change my school because of her. But, my father was a no nonsense man, and saw her as nothing but a distraction. Also, I wasn't allowed to leave his school, he said a better education couldn't be found elsewhere. So, I let her know about it, she said she didn't mind and we could still be together. So, we spoke often on Facebook, until she gradually began to withdraw. She'd reply to my messages late or super late. Sometimes, not reply at all. It was when I resumed for JSS 3 second term, that I had found out that she had moved on and was then dating a celebrity son. I couldn't believe them, so I asked. She didn't even bother denying and said she couldn't waste her time." He paused, then scoffed. "So, I'm not worth her time." He scoffed again. "As if. Sha sha, after that. I was hurt a great deal. Cried a lot, and haven't really been able to have a stable girlfriend since then. They all mostly lasted for a couple of days or weeks. They all always wanted either money or clout."

He tried to hide it with a smile, but I could see the sadness in his eyes. He was still affected by how she treated him. That was really mean of her. As I was judging her, something within me reminded me of how I was slowly following her trend, and at that moment I felt the strong urge to tell him about how I had serious issue with my feelings, but I ended up saying, "Sorry."

He shrugged. "It's all in the past now, I'm fine."

I cocked a brown. "Oh, are you?" I asked in a concerned, but mockish way.

He nodded with a laugh. "Oh, I am. And I've been way better, ever since I've met you."

My heart melted, making me smile like a fool. But, I was happy the darkness was hiding it for me.

"What about you?" he asked, but I wasn't allowed to speak as my phone rang.

I quickly reached for my pocket as I brought it out to check the caller. It was Collins. When I picked, he was really worried and wanted to know where I was. He said it was dinner and they couldn't find me in my room, the hall, or the dining hall. I assured him that I was fine, and that I was coming.

Khalid smiled at me. "It's dinner time and I have to catch up with the guys," I informed him as I stood up.

He nodded. And with that, we left for the dining hall.
