CUSTOMS FOR THE DEAD
After the dread inducing encounter with the man at the diner, Ebony felt an overwhelming need for a drink. Preferably tequila. Anything really, that would get her drunk within a few shots. Rebecca seemed to have the same idea, as when they climbed in Rebecca's car they headed in any direction other than home. There was a comfortable silence filling the car, with the occasional grumbling of the engine and the low mumble of the car radio. This was the most relaxing place Ebony could be, yet her back was still frozen straight and her eyes constantly flitting everywhere. She couldn't give into the urge to slump into the cushioned seat and curl up, her brain full to the brim with questions that nibbled at her curiosity.
Rebecca seemed oblivious to Ebony's tense posture, to her bland face. "To finish off the night I thought we could go for a drink? I hope that's okay." Mindlessly, Ebony nodded, voicing a small note of approval after she remembered that Rebecca wouldn't be able to see it, hopefully as her whole concentration would be on the road. Rebecca beamed. "Great! I think you're going to love this place, it's got a really fun atmosphere and the staff are amazing. The music is a bit outdated, but once we've downed a couple of drinks I don't think it'll matter."
Ebony awoke from her daze, addressing a question that needed an answer. "How will we get home? If we both are knocking back vodka like water I don't think it'd be safe to drive home."
"I live above the bar, you can stay at mine," she backtracked, hearing Ebony fidget in her seat , "Or my brother can drive you home if you're not comfortable with that." Rebecca giggled, shaking her head, a blush tainting her cheeks. Subconsciously, Rebecca tapped her fingers on the steering wheel, swaying her body slightly to the beat of the quiet music. "Gosh, I didn't mean for that to sound so forward. I swear I'm not usually like this."
With cheeks red as a tomato, Ebony grinned, staring at her hands. "I'd love to stay at yours. Beats having an awkward ride home with your brother." Rebecca snorted a laugh, quickly covering up her nose with a hand. It had been deep and pig like, and Ebony thought it was hilarious and adorable.
"Yeah, my brother can be a little intense. He doesn't mean it, he's just really nosy. My gran used to call him Gossip Girl. He never minded - he adored her." Rebecca let out a content sigh, casting her mind back to when she was a teenager living with her grandparents. Her brother - Jordan - had just turned 21, and they all put their money together to get him a car. He crashed the car shortly after they both died.
Ebony's ears perked at hearing about Rebecca's gran. She rarely spoke about anyone in her family but her brother. She considered asking about it, quickly deciding against it just in case it brought pent up feelings to the surface. Ebony refrained herself from saying anything about it, knowing how much she hated it when anyone reminded her Celeste had died.
Celeste.
Ever since Ebony had met Rebecca, she didn't ponder on her as much. This scared her. She felt guilt eat away at her insides for not thinking about her more, for not remembering, for not fulfilling her promise. She had vowed to kill the Winchesters for what they'd done, yet she had never planned anything, just only dreamed about how their blood would spill. It was then that she found that she didn't feel the need to quench her long gone thirst for them to be buried six feet under. Instead of wanting to kill them, she found herself wanting to get to know them more.
If that man at the diner hadn't come up to her to remind her, she probably wouldn't have thought of the dead girl again for a while. How could she have been so selfish? Ebony had loved her, and she threw that love out of the window as soon as another pretty girl with an irresistible smile swept her off of her feet.
Ebony shook her head, trying to rid herself of the thoughts invading her happiness. On her first date with Rebecca, she said that she wouldn't think about Celeste, or talk about her. Look at how that turned out, she thought bitterly to herself. She ended up tearing her hair out, telling a pretty stranger about the scars of her past, to be reassured by the same person. Rebecca had said that they'd visit her grave one time - within the space of a few weeks, she completely forgot about the girls heartfelt promise.
"Ebony?" Rebecca's voice snapped Ebony out of her thoughts. She had been thinking so hard that she hadn't even realised that the car had stopped moving, and that Rebecca was by her window leaning through, gazing at her with soft eyes. Rebecca tilted her lips upwards, influencing Ebony's to do the same. "You okay?"
Pressing a hand to Rebecca's cheek, she reassured the worried girl. "I will be, once I'm sitting on a bar stool drinking all of the bars liquor."
Rebecca leaned into Ebony's hand for a second, before turning away and opening the door. "After you, m'lady." She bowed, waiting as Ebony stepped out of the vehicle and slammed the door behind her. Instinctively, she wrapped her arm around Ebony's shoulders, pulling her warm body into hers to try and protect her from the howling wind. Pounding music could be heard over the whistling wind, a pop song that had been in the chart a long while ago. Ebony didn't say anything about the unexpected action, only sliding closer to her, until there was no space between them.
Walking into the bar had been difficult with both of them trying to fit through the door frame at the same time, both not wanting to leave the others side. The smell of sweat and food hit them as soon as they got into the building, the mix making Ebony's nose crinkle. Music vibrated through her body, the deep bass thumping away at their bones, absorbing all other sounds, demanding to be heard like a three year old throwing a tantrum. Bodies were everywhere, filling every space available. Some were dancing erratically, swinging their arms wide, jumping and grinding like there was no tomorrow. Others crowded around tables, conversing with each other rowdily and taking the occasional gulps from their drinks.
Sending Ebony a soothing grin, Rebecca strutted forward, with Ebony in tow. She felt as though she was slowly becoming deaf, and wondered how anyone could actually ask someone at the bar to get them a drink. She admired Rebecca for living above it.
Rebecca dragged her further, keeping her arm hooked around Ebony's neck to make sure she wouldn't get lost in the crowd. They dodged and swerved around countless people, coming close to having a drink spilled down them so many times that Ebony lost count. Finally, they got to the counter, and Rebecca cheerily greeted everyone there, leaning over the counter. Her lips moved, but Ebony couldn't hear anything pass her lips, all words drowned in the tunes blasting through the speakers. She could only watch as the bar tender smiled at Ebony, then nodded, passing Rebecca two tall, glass bottles of alcohol.
Picking up the bottles, Rebecca led Ebony behind the counter, guiding her down a hallway and up flights of stairs. Rebecca withdrew her arm from around Ebony, bounding up the stairs eagerly. They climbed, breaths coming out in heavy pants by the point they reached a metal fire door, that was surprisingly light to open. Rebecca was a few steps ahead, twirling around, waving around both bottles in the air. Ebony silently hoped they wouldn't smash.
She stopped spinning, teetering back and forth. Grinning at Ebony, she opened one of the bottles, laying the other on a red and black tartan blanket placed on the floor. Ebony kicked herself for not seeing it sooner. She was meant to be a hunter with extremely good observational skills. To be honest, she wasn't clear as to what she was meant to be anymore.
Rebecca lifted the bottle to her lips, greedily gulping down on its contents. Her Adams apple bobbed up and down ferociously, as though it was trying to keep up with the amount she was guzzling down. Ebony stood slumped, wrapping her arms around her body, trying to ward off the cold.
By the time that Rebecca handed Ebony the bottle, two thirds had gone. Her eyes widened in surprise, shooting up to Rebecca who seemed fine. She was clumsier before she drank than after, Ebony thought, encouraging a small laugh to escape her.
"C'mon Ebony, have some." Rebecca pouted, collapsing to the blanket. Indecision coursed through Ebony's veins, she didn't want to get drunk, because she and Rebecca may do something they regret, but if she just had a small drink there'd be no harm in that. Giving into the peer pressure, Ebony brought the bottle to her lips and sipped. And sipped. And sipped.
Too many sips later, the two of them were standing, dancing to the music that could still be heard from downstairs. It was an upbeat tune, and they both were getting enthusiastic about it, twirling each other and whipping their heads back and forth.
A slow song soon followed, killing their energy. Rebecca walked backwards effortlessly, despite all of the alcohol she'd had, waving a finger at Ebony, beckoning her to come closer. With furrowed brows, she stepped closer, stumbling slightly when Rebecca walked up to her, wrapping her arms around Ebony's chest from behind. Her breath felt hot on her neck, and Ebony bit her lip. A small kiss was peppered on her ear lobe, Rebecca's lips brushing her ear when she seductively whispered. "Look at the sky."
Following her orders, Ebony's gaze fell upon the sky. She released an awed gasp. A milky orb hung in the sky, beaming down at the two, bathing them in a vulnerable light. No clouds could be seen - banished from the sky so that people could marvel at the clear sky, full of unknowns and knowledge. The pure beauty of it cleansed Ebony's mind of all of her worries: the man at the diner, Celeste, and the close proximity that Rebecca stood to her.
Ebony crossed her arms, making sure her hands found Rebecca's so she could cradle them. "Aren't the stars gorgeous?" Rebecca nodded, focused entirely on Ebony's body pressed against hers. "My mom always told me that the constellations held the secrets of the world, and that their intricate patterns were a lock that needed to be opened with a key where no one would look: ourselves. We have the power to unlock the hidden truths about the world," Ebony shrugged, craning her head to peer into Rebecca's eyes. "If we manage to pry our eyes open from the picturesque scene we trick ourselves into believing that reality is."
Ebony turned her head back, so she was staring straight ahead. Rebecca nuzzled her head in Ebony's hair, breathing in her natural scent. She felt her mouth moving against the top of her head. "Wow, your mom was poetic."
"I like to think that that's not true, she was just... open minded." Ebony left out the fact that when her mom had told her this, she was five and was telling her this story to distract her from the monster her dad was battling outside the door. They had been hidden in a wardrobe, and as Ebony shook in fear her mother told her numerous useless stories in whispers, holding her in her arms. Ebony never told her mom that she knew that her mom was crying - she'd felt the tear droplets on her head.
Rebecca noticed the use of past tense. "I'm sorry," Rebecca apologised, unsure why. It was a custom that people did: say sorry when they found out someone had died. As though they'd killed them themselves.
"It's cool, Rebecca. Death is one of many things that direct us down a path, and I know I'm heading in the right direction." The air was thick with seriousness... until Rebecca let out a low belch that rumbled throughout her entire body. They erupted into laughter, leaning on their knees, falling to the ground and imitating it, causing them to once again dissolve into giggles.
They wheezed, laying on the blanket too close in their drunk state. Ebony twisted her head to tell Rebecca something she instantly forgot the moment Rebecca's lips crashed to hers. She let out a tiny squeal of shock. Ebony automatically responded, moving her lips in sync with Rebecca as they hungrily explored each others bodies, hands wandering everywhere, stroking everywhere, clenching everywhere.
Rebecca ducked her head from another kiss, delving down to suck at Ebony's neck. Ebony couldn't hold in her lustful moan, tangling her hands in her hair and tugging. She felt Rebecca smirk against her neck, leaving a trail of kisses down Ebony's neck as she went lower, much to Ebony's delight.
Fighting to form words, Ebony groaned. "Rebecca, are we going too fast?"
Rebecca hovered over Ebony's skin, her fingers drawing circles in Ebony's skin. Her voice was like a growl as she once again moved her lips to Ebony's skin. "Screw going slow."
Giddily, Ebony nodded her head, before interrupting her pleasure again. "Shouldn't we go to your place?"
"Good point," Rebecca crawled off of Ebony, bringing herself off of the ground and held her hand out to help Ebony up. She took it gratefully, holding onto it too tightly, both of their faces bright red. They ran down the stairs to her apartment as quick as they could, occasionally stopping to reignite their passion by having a make out session, each time it being harder to stop. At last they reached the door, Rebecca fumbling for the keys. Behind her, Ebony snaked her arms around her middle and nibbled at her ear lobe, purring things that would make the homophobes everywhere vomit and cleanse themselves in holy water.
Click. The lock opened, and wasting no time they stumbled through the door way, closing the door with a foot.
That night, they gave each other everything.
And the next day, they would have nothing left to give.
And no one to give it to.

hey assbutts! there's only 6 chapters left, so this book should be over in March. I'm so sad, this book has been one of the best I've written and it's sad that it's coming to an end.
even though I have a kick ass idea for Ebony in a sequel, I don't think it'd be written well. So I've decided not to write it straight away, and either create a new OC and use the plot OR write the sequel much later on OR give the plot away in a plot shop thing (considering doing that to get my drafts down a bit) -UPDATE 08/04/2018 i still only have around 6 out of 30 chapters written for it and most of them are awful, i had low expectations of how long it would take but jeez this is a new low for me.
also, does anyone have any questions for the Q&A?
adios assbutts!
