Chapter 3: Spirits, emotes and the deserted space
~~~~~~~~
The two children descended the narrowed platform which shows off Isle of Dawn's terrific view. Now, they were walking barefoot on the desert, with yellow butterflies accompanying them, almost resembling little coins of gold. It was a beautiful sight honestly, whether you were on the viewing platform or not. Being under a pastel blue sky just lightens the mood. As for the two children, they didn't seem to be looking at this portal's bigger picture.
"Say big sister Unity, do you like deserts? Not the ones that we hear from legends. For example, that one desert that managed to drive its tourists completely insane due to thirst." Little Infinity inquired. Walking at a reasonable pace beside her, the big sister thought for a second. "Well they're pretty that's for sure, so packed with sunshine and light. A good spot for vacation if you asked me. But I have never seen a desert this gorgeous before. Look at it!" She exclaimed, raising her arms towards the skies towering over them.
Infinity nodded at the response. "When we get back home from Eden, we should totally brag about how we were lucky enough to go to the Isle of Dawn!" She suggested quite enthusiastically, mind you. Unity chuckled at that. It seems that her little sister forgot about something. With an exasperated smile, Unity said: "Uh, remember, someone, mainly talking about you, decided that it would be a good idea to sneak out of the house." She  mentioned with an undefeated look.
Infinity shook her head and walked a bit faster than her sister. "Yeah yeah but if we didn't sneak out, we would have never found out about this dimension! Sure we heard lots of stories from fallen children about this place! But I just wanted to see it in person.." she admitted, her cheeks becoming slightly pink. Then again, who was Infinity to be embarrassed over something that's total normal for her adventurous self? "Besides," she added. "It was our turn for the quest, wasn't it?"
The two siblings' chatter died down when the eldest noticed something in the distance. "Hey do you see that?" She called for her younger sister, who was in the verge of running off without her. So much for a sibling journey in the great East of Eden. Infinity stopped in her tracks, her refraining from running causes sand to be kicked from her bare feet. "Ah, is that a cave?" She observed. The mountain in the distance had a rock-shaped structure with a massive entrance in the centre that pierced through. Unity rolled her eyes, "Obviously. Look at it." She replies effortlessly.
The white braided girl jumped up in joy,
"Oh awesome! Let's totally go in!" She suggested time her older sibling, already  preparing to dash off once more. Unity sighed and that's what made the girl in front of her stop running again. "Uh, let's totally not. What kind of danger lies inside?" She wondered snapping sense into the younger Eden enthusiast' mind. Infinity pondered for a minute. "There you go again, Rain. Thinking about safety and the skies beyond. It doesn't look that deep, just trust me~!" She begged.
Unity rolled her eyes for the second time this minute. If she didn't follow her, she'd be dead. If she did follow her, she'd still be dead. Why? Because Infinity would be nagging all the time. Being constantly annoyed was better than receiving a scolding from your parents and the gods above about losing your relative to your own flesh and bones. But don't get her wrong, she enjoyed her sister's company despite her not thinking rationally most of the time. She was the crazy fellow that orchestrated this entire escape plan after all. She's gotta hand her at least partial amount of the credit.
"Fine fine, let's go in. I bet we'd find nothing though." The older sibling grumbled,to show off her disappointment and clear defeat. Infinity nodded happily at her sister's acceptance to explore the cave and waited for the slow snail to catch up. "I can work with that! We're getting closer to Eden!" She laughed in pure bliss. Her voice could be heard from the ones high in the sky. Yet Unity couldn't help but ruin her fun: "Not even close!"
When they both entered the cave, Infinity was mildly disappointed that it wasn't too narrow. It almost looked like the sort of caves that bears would seek shelter in for the winter. It was rather homey and very warm, both sisters noticed the temperature and the exposed hole in the ceiling of the cave. Once more, yellow butterflies fluttered inside and made themselves at home.
"Alright, so now what?" Unity walked inside and took a look around herself. There were two exits so they didn't have to worry about anything blocking the entrance they entered by. There was another hole further along the cave walls. The younger sister grabbed her sister's hand and ran around. The cave was absolutely empty like mentioned earlier. "Fum, seems like no one is home. Then again, who would live in a hollow cave like this one? Not even food here." She inspected with a professional look.
That's when the two spotted a blackened figure by the second entrance-exit. Almost like a kneeling corpse. It certainly terrified the two sisters at first glance. "Eek! Please tell me it's only an abandoned vase!" The youngest begged and dared to shut her eyes in total disbelief. Infinity Sky  didn't cope too well with deceased bodies of some sort so it was no surprise she reacted this way towards the smelly kneeling form. Unity took out a red candle from her stack in her pockets. "Maybe this might help. I can burn the black moulds on it." She tried. The red candle in her hands lit up with no effort and she slowly advanced forward towards the dead figure. Infinity remained scared for her life.
When the flame made contact with the stone-like body of the deceased, the body began to not only burn down but to shine in a light blue. Then, the most absurd of things happened and the two girls question it till this day, "H-Huh.." they both gasped out as a spirit from the same blue light they saw flashing before their very eyes appeared in front of them. The spirit of a man with a robe coming from Greek times. The two sisters weren't sure themselves what clothing and which timeline this spirit belonged in.
"You've freed me.." the spirit gasped out to them. Infinity and Unity looked at each other before giving a polite nod. "We have, can you tell us your name?" The oldest took matters in her own hands and asked the stranger before them. The light blue spirit thought and thought and thought. But even after minutes of thinking, he still couldn't remember his name. "I...um...I'm so sorry.."
It was a sunny bright day in the Isle of Dawn, kicking sand from his sandals, a middle-aged man ventured out, far away from home. An older woman, who peered out of a cave entrance's hole waved out to the man walking away from the cave. "Be safe North! You never told me where you were going anyways!" The mother of the man called out to him.
The spirit presumingly named "North" chuckled and stopped walking on the sandy surface. He turned around to face his mother before his head cocked to the side, staring at the beautiful pastel blue skies with a complimentary cotton candy pink. He loved the Isle of Dawn, despite visiting the other dimensions elsewhere. He was a big adventurer after all! "Oh mother! I'm going this way!" North claimed as he extended an arm out to point at the gates not too far away. They were gates—or more like docks actually where the most butterflies were stationed. With a call, one could be wafted high above to reach the gorgeous castle on the hill. North always wanted to go there but never found the courage to.
Unity and Infinity opened their eyes and saw that the blue-coloured spirit was out of sight. They both pouted when they realized what happened. "Awwww what a scaredy-cat! He must have ran off!" The youngest came up with such a conclusion. Though, Unity smiled and walked out of the cave, her hands close to her heart. "Big sister, wait up." The white braided girl caught up to her drifting sister. She was headed for the same docks she saw in that spirit man's flashback.
"I think...don't call me wrong. He went that way." Unity extended her hand out and pointed in direction of the same gates that the spirit "North" pointed to. That's where she understood why she found a rotten body by the entrance of that cave. It belonged to the spirit nonetheless, died shortly after losing confidence in flying with the butterflies.
