Chapter 1: The quest begins now!
~~~~~~~
Long ago, there was a prophecy saying that children from the skies filled with nothing but goodness, justice and especially light were to come down in these peaceful lands and restore it from the darkness. They were to travel to six parts of the world, each of them were gates leading to the source of all evil. It was none other than the Eye of Eden. It is rumoured to be a fearsome hell where the storms would devour your soul up. Again, no one knew if it was true since no one has dared enter the depths of Eden.
-"Yeah but who cares what the prophecy thinks!" A white haired girl that had a side braid as well as a ponytail in the back, exclaimed as she stood up from her chair, a fork in hand.
-"Infinity, not in the dining room, please."
There were four individuals all gathered around a circular wooden table. It was night out so it wants exactly bad timing to have supper at such a late time. Well, there was a reason to that actually. Their father came home late from the caves not far from home. Apparently, there was a little mixup between the white candles and the seasonal ones. The elders asked if he could stay a bit later than usual to sort that out. But here they were now, enjoying a family dinner all together.
Firstly, there were two kids in this happy family of four. The eldest was named Unity Sky, who had impeccable white hair that reached to her bottom. She was considered a 7 star flyer that had a velvet red cape to match her shining star-formed jewels behind it. She was around 153cm but never really complained about her height much to her sibling's difference. She was rather cheeky and had a very adventurous side. When they were younger, Unity was the one who showed her younger sister most of the children of light's locations all around their home. Children of light were winged light-filed souls that are scattered across the world and when collected, upgrades your cape to fly higher. The two siblings were music fans as well and Unity so happens to stick around with a keyboard, in hopes of playing a real piano when the whole darkness invasion is over.
Second, there was Infinity Sky. Actually the name 'Infinity' is a given, it's not really her actual name. But the girl covers it as much as possible since apparently, she's not quite fond of it. For the fear that 'it felt a little out of line.' compared to the other sky children. Infinity had short white hair as well as a short side braid that stopped at her shoulder. Always being annoyed that her hair got in the way of her cape when 'flying', she tied the rest of her hair into a ponytail in the back. Compared to her sister, she was a five star flyer and still kept the default brown cape all the children had. She was 147cm in which she complains as frequently as possible just to show the world her rage for making her such a shortie. She can be quite rebellious sometimes but either way, that's only because she wants to explore beyond their home. As for her instrument, it is a small harp attached to her cape.
A disappointed expression was now seen on the small girl's face as she sat back down after being kindly stopped by their mother. The fork she had in her hands slammed against the wooden table near her plate. "Seriously though, have we heard any news about the restoration of light in the world? Have we?" Infinity prompted her older sister and parents. In which, the three all gave bothered looks. How to respond to a question like that without setting her off by accident? Finally, after what felt like an eternity,
-"Well no, not yet at least."
-"Hah! See I told you! Why can't me and Unity make a difference and go out on the quest destined to children of light? I mean, it's a requirement for everyone. Even you and father went on it when you were younger!"
-"Infinity please, it's too dangerous." A sigh escaped from their mother's lips. Their father uncomfortably shifted from side to side.
Infinity immediately turned to her older sister, who was sitting right across from her. Her disappointment of never getting the chance to see Eden for herself was washed away with hope and determination. She extended her arm out to join Unity's. "Come on sis! Don't you want to go on the quest as well?" She inquired impatiently, even bothering to lean over the table to get closer.
Pressure was being built up inside of Unity. She refrained from snapping back though. Instead, a nervous laugh escaped her lips.
"I don't know...perhaps you're too short to even reach the land of Eden." Despite the nervousness brought upon her, Unity found it in her strength to joke around. That only raised an uproar from their parents. They didn't exactly word it out for her but she saw that angered expression clearly on their faces. She was the only one who caught it, Infinity was too busy cheering in victory, thinking she has convinced one person on her side. "Whatttt? Excuse me, I can!" retorted the small child. A bit of silence passed by during dinner, the two siblings exchanged glances with one another before they heard their parents exhale. "You are both oh so young to die." Their mother claimed.
-"Infinity is a tough candle, despite her being my younger sister, I'm actually sure she can manage." Unity calmly explained.
-"Yeah!"
-"Im worried about you too, my child."
-"Mother, rest assured, we'll be fine. I was actually wondering when will be our time to go on our quest.
"That's enough." was the answer from their father. He had stood up from the dinner table and picked up all four plates from the table. "Listen, I know you are old enough. But me and your mother would not risk it. Please...who knows what could happen to the both of you." He begged the two children to forget about the idea. Unity and Infinity had pretty much creased at this point on. There was no arguing with their father, the man of the house.
"Now go upstairs. It's bedtime. We'll take care of the dishes for tonight. Goodnight my children." He ordered the two girls before walking over to the kitchen next door. Unity and Infinity exchanged confused glances to one another. Wasn't it a bit early for bedtime? They thought, being surprised that they thought the same thing for once. "Well, alright..." Infinity mumbled, loud enough for their parents to hear. Their mother waved at her children kindly. "Goodnight, may the lights provide you great dreams."
As Unity and Infinity walked up the stairs, the younger child couldn't help a bitter thought of hers. "Yeah! I hope so! A dream that lets me and big sister go wild in the Eye of Eden!" After that desire, the two figures were completely locked in their shared bedroom. Their mother sighed in relief as they were finally out of view. She walked over to the kitchen where her husband was.
He was cleaning the dishes from their meals, a composed look on his face as the fresh water ran down his palms.
-"You've sent them to bed too early, they'll catch on."
-"The elders wanted to speak to us. I can't have them interrupt the meeting."
The room had quite a lot of space in it. It was a eight by eight room that had dark blue stone flooring with smooth stone walls. The beds were towards the right of the entrance. Infinity's bed was closest to the window which was at the centre of the room. Her bed was light brown commonly mistaken as beige while Unity's was red to match her cape. There was a bookshelf block for the latter while the younger sister got a lamp side table. Towards the left of the room, there was a table that had a seasonal candle on it. Then right at the north-west of the room, there was a closet containing all kind of contents. One of them were highball glasses.
Slumping on the pillows by the headrest, "Ugh.." a groan escaped Infinity's lips as her entire plan to persuade her parents to send her and her sister on the quest had completely fluked. "It's just not fair. I bet we can find ourselves to Eden faster than those veteran explorers." She began to rant softly. She was lying down in a supine position, arms crossed. Her head was softly pressed against the five star pillows all stuck onto the headrest. Unity's bed had 7 star-shaped pillows. It was a clear reference to their cape wedges. "Cheer up. Perhaps they'll change their minds when we're a bit older." the older sister attempted to cheer her up.
-"Awwww. But I wanna know what hides in that 'terrifying' hellhole in the first place! It's scary but I'm pumped! Ever since I've learned about it!"
-"Isn't it funny though? They sent us to bed early. It's a one hour difference from our usual routine. Any thoughts?"
-"I don't really have one, big sister. How about you?"
-"Possibly...they don't want us being in the lower floors around now because...they would be brewing new spells, or...summon some sort of magical power but with a ritual?" Unity suggested, after putting deep effort into her thoughts.
-"Magic doesn't exist which sucks. But if it did, that wouldn't be a bad theory. Despite it being completely unrealistic. Let's stick with that."
-"Okay."
Infinity's eyes flickered as her gaze was still fixed on the low ceiling. It was low but it wasn't quite low enough for the girls to hit their heads. She didn't say a word after the conversation between her and her sister died down. As for Unity, she detached her keyboard from cape and began to play a few keys, just testing them to hear the notes being produced. As much as music could annoy others, Infinity didn't seem to mind.
Several minutes passed since the two Sky children were sent to bed. The parents meanwhile, stayed downstairs. "Why did you send them to bed so early?" The mother asked, locking her hand into the father's. She gave it a light squeeze out of concern. The man however, sighed at his turn. He glanced over to his wife. "You see, it was for the better." He explained subtly. The mother's eyes widened in confusion. What did he mean by 'the better'? Truly, he didn't plan out something impulsive behind her back. No, no, that's just.. there was silence that filled the entire downstairs after what he said. It left time for the wife to think about the meaning of that sentence. Then it clicked. "You didn't-" she was interrupted by a quiet knock by the front door. Guess the elders beat the pathetic mother to her kids.
The knock had startled both of them. Their breaths hitched as the two had figured what business the ones behind the door wanted with them. "I'll get it." The father swallowed then promptly walked over towards the front door. The mother dreaded every step her husband took. Each minute, each time he got closer, she felt her children escape her embrace. She shut her eyes as the light from the outside world got in the house. Under a gorgeous moonlight, shone anxiety and pain in the form of two elders visiting. The two had recognized them and the situation they were getting themselves into. A paradox event for every parent of skilled Sky children. "How may we help you?" The father raised his brows. The mother stayed very close.
"Is this where Unity and Nina Sky reside?" One of the two elders inquired. The two parents looked at eachother worriedly. Oh here it comes, the crashing question. "Yes, this is the Sky residence." The father confirmed unwillingly. It was unwilling because he knew he wouldn't see his children in a long while, mind you, if they do succeed in the quest sought out for them. Some children get lost in the darkness of Eden or hence, the other worlds out there. Their parents never knew what happened to those poor children of light. The elders nodded at his confirmation. "Very well, we have come to inform you that both Sky sisters are next in line for the path to the eye of Eden. Thank you for your time." With that, the two vanished into thin air. They were elder spirits after all. The door closed and it left the mother in a trembling state.
"We cannot give in. What if Unity and Infinity get lost in the darkness? What if they get killed?" The mother's eyes sprinkled with fresh tears. The sobs of an uncertain mother, not ready to let go of her children. The father just hugged her. "We cannot deny to the words of the elders. If Unity and Infinity are picked for the quest. Then so be it. We shall be content that our children might find the Eye of Eden and restore peace and prosperity." He cooed at her, his ears rang with his wife's sobs. So many unknown thoughts ran through their mind that night. However, what they didn't know was the event where a small hand placed a highball glass against the wall. Infinity chuckled as she overheard the entire conversation from downstairs. "Guess it really is our time to venture out!" She giggled like a small child whilst letting the glass fall on her bedsheets.
Unity gave her a weird-almost nervous look. "That's eavesdropping." She reminded. But the younger sister didn't seem to care much. She just lay down on her bed for a few seconds before sighing dreamily. "Guess what." She shot back to her older sibling. Unity, who had already stored her glass back in the closet, didn't really made a drastic remark. "I heard, but dont tell me you're planning to leave so early. What about mother and father?" She inquired. By the time she finished her question, Infinity was seen opening the flaps of their bedroom window. She gave a mischievous smirk. "Big sister." She laughed. Always so worried and thoughtful of their parents. They weren't children anymore. They shouldn't worry so much. Better yet, Unity was the oldest, she should be the rebellious one here.
The small figure slipped through the window, standing on the ledge of the opening. She waited for her adventure companion. Unity watched from her bed as she saw the small girl's hand reaching out for her. The words 'Come on! Big sister!' rung through her mind. She shut her eyes, ugh, such a cruel choice. Infinity had dreaded for this moment yet Unity felt bad for leaving her to do all the adventuring alone. Well, for fairness' sake. What if she found marvellous things outside of home? It was their destiny after all. They needed to go on this quest to Eden. That was what the elders planned for them. But, why go out ahead of time? They would be sent in the morning by their parents, it was still the middle of the night. When she reopened her eyes, she noticed that Infinity was gone like the wind that supposedly died down. She exhaled.
The older sibling hopped off her bed, reattaching her keyboard to her cape and climbed up the ledge of the window. Her eyes looked down to find her younger sister waving at her joyfully. "Make sure to close the windows!" She chimed, calling from below. Oh quiet now, the parents might hear them if she didn't shut it. Unity nodded, scooting over to the edge and turned around briefly. Her hands lowered the frame down thus closing the window making it seem that their disappearance didn't occur so impulsively. They were considerate enough to not let the morning wind drizzle all over their room, leaving a ton of chaos. Closing the window, Unity leaped down. It wasn't that much of a steep jump. She wasn't injured or anything, she landed on her feet with ease. Reaching the ground, Unity turned over to her younger sister. She began to run off, gesturing her to follow. "Come on, the portal is that way." She smiled. Infinity's eyes widened in delight. She really decided to come along? The girl nodded excitedly. "Big sister!" She chimed, following right after the short haired girl.
That night, two children had escaped Daylight Prairies.
