The world is ending. 

Wildfires are taking California by storm. Weather is becoming violent - more violent, as if the natural world is waging its war on the unnatural one. Animals and plants are dying. Icebergs are melting, droughts are taking over. Migration patterns are changing, the ocean is warming, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. 

When Kronos, Lord of the Titans, was destroyed, Lila thought that finally, finally, she'd get her happy ending. Peace would prevail, as it was always supposed to. She wasn't expecting her mother to start dodging her calls, or for Annabeth to start suffering from the worst kind of nightmares. She definitely wasn't expecting to wake up one day and find Percy's side of the bed empty.

But this is the life of a demigod, right? Each quest is just one more step in their never-ending journey toward peace. Each step she takes is just another step closer to the bliss she's been dreaming of. So what if Gaea is rising? So what if there's a line in the new Great Prophecy that is almost definitely talking about her? It can't be helped. No matter if every day is a new kind of hell, there is no other choice. There is one way forward, and that's acceptance. Accepting that Hera, Queen Olympus, stole Lila's boyfriend and wiped his memory. Accepting that her mother is blocking her calls and pretending she can't receive Iris-Messages. Accepting that their duty is to the gods, and to save the world. Again. 

But Lila sees the storms, the floods, and the droughts, the fires that destroy forests, and the tornadoes that ruin lives. She sees the endless mining, deep into Gaea's domain. The tearing down of trees and the plastic-polluted oceans. And so she wonders:

Is the world truly worth saving?

☆ All (most) of the characters have been aged up two years. Literally can't do the maths but I think Lila, Percy and Annabeth are like 18/19 (?) by my logic.

Author's Note.

My inspiration for Persephone's character is similar to her characterisation in Hadestown, which I took inspiration from. In the same way, Gaia's character is a lot more like her personification as 'Mother Nature', which I always thought Rick Riordan could have played up. Gaia's a lot more sympathetic here than she is in his series, because the environment!!!

 I'm still undecided what to do with Annabeth. I don't know whether or not to leave her single or to give her a love interest. I don't even know whether to make her gay or not. I have so many ideas and I can't decide on one. Who do you guys think Annabeth should be with? I have a male OC I originally planned for her to date but it never felt right. Then I thought I preferred her single. Now I'm looking at Reyna and thinking about how much I love women. Whichever I choose, nothing will happen between them here, but maybe I'll hint at it.

Fun fact!! I originally wrote Lila because of my own issues with anxiety during the pandemic. I wanted to write a character who really suffered with anxiety the same way I did, but also was cute and adorbs and lovely. Then, three years later I found out my issues are actually caused by mild OCD haha

CHANGES FROM FLOWERGIRL

I originally cut out part of Lila's backstory from the Prometheus chapter because I wasn't planning on writing this. Now I am writing this and I haven't given you guys enough explanation. The first chapter should clear it all up but just to be warned you're going to see Lila's birth in a lot more detail (its not graphic I don't know why I said it like that). Good thing is!! you don't need to read flowergirl to understand what's going on !! perf. 

This one is dual POV, not just Lila - it should swap between Lila and Percy, though sometimes Lila gets an extra one in there for plotish reasons. I think you guys will like it but it's definitely more of a challenge for me! I'm not built for double povs. These are actually the reason I have writer's block for my LOTR fic, I literally cannot write Legolas's POV, I haven't updated in years.

I hope you will enjoy this! If there a plot holes, I'll probably fix them at some point. If I don't, oh well.
