Earth Mode ON: TWO

[September 7, 2014, Seoul, South Korea]

I sat in my seat, staring at the clock that hung above my class room's whiteboard and fiddling with my pen, waiting for the school bell to go off so I can go home. My legs were shaking as fast as they possibly could as I watched the arrows on the clock in front of me tick away.

*bell rings*

Yessss! Finally!

Without any second thoughts, I grabbed my bag, stuffed it with the books that were scattered randomly about my desk, and ran out of class. The moment my foot landed outside of school, I felt at ease. Usually, I would take a bus back home, but that day, I felt like walking.

"Yah! Seo Yeon!" I heard one of my friends call out.

"Hey," I said as she ran to me.

"Why did you run off like that? I thought we'll take the bus together," she said as she adjusted the strap of her backpack on her right shoulder.

I shook my head at her and said," No, not today. I'll walk home. You can take the bus."

She shrugged then said," Okay then. See you tomorrow!"

I smiled at her as she took off. It was a nice sunny day with a slight cold breeze. It felt nice being out there after a really long, boring day at school.  I started skipping on the pavement, looking at the windows of the shops that I passed by to entertain myself. As I was skipping, I heard some sort of hip hop music. I could tell in an instant that it was new since I haven’t heard anything like it in Korea before. I traced the sound back to a small electronics store at the corner of the road that led to my house. A small bell rang when I opened the door, causing the owner to divert his attention to me. I bowed down slightly to him and gave off a faint smile before carrying on my mission which was finding the source of the music.

As I was scanning the area, I saw a TV with Music Bank being aired. It seemed like an old episode to me though. There stood artists on the stage, most of which I was completely familiar with. However, one very unfamiliar group caught my attention. As I was looking at their faces, I heard the results being announced.

"And the winner is...." I heard.

There was a very short pause before the host caught a glimpse of the name written on his card. A smile formed on his face before finally announcing the winner to be," Bangtan Seonnyeondan!"

"Bangtan Seonnyeondan? Who are those? I've never heard of them before! They look so young! Oh wait, look at that dude! He looks even younger than I do!" That was all I thought of at that moment as I stood there, titling my head in confusion.

"Is there something I can assist you with, kid?" The old man who sat at the front desk suddenly shouted over to me, bringing me back to reality.

"No sir. Thank you," I replied and bowed down to him before finally deciding that it would be better if I exited the shop.

I ran back home that day, and the first thing I did was opening Google and searching 'Bangtan Seonnyeondan'.

Hmm... interesting... so we have Kim SeokJin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Kim Namjoon, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, and Jeon Jungkook.

Jimin and Taehyung are nearly my age, and that Jungkook guy, I knew it, he is younger than me!

I searched for more of their music but frowned when I only a couple of songs appeared on the list, so I assumed that they just started their career. I also found the song that I heard back at the store: I Need U. The rest of my day consisted of watching their debut repeatedly and eventually falling in love with the song.

No more dream.

It was an interesting song, and had a completely different style than the music I normally listened to. Their dance and lyrics were appealing too. Without even realizing it, I found myself dedicating part of my every day life just to watching their videos. I remember at that time, they had a show called “American Hustle life" airing, and that was what kept me more than just entertained during my junior year in high school. Just like that, I found myself part of their fandom, but I never regretted joining it, not one day!

[January 4, 2019, Seoul, South Korea]

I felt nothing but suffocated. No matter how much I fought against the rapid currents of water, I still wasn't capable of pushing myself upwards to take in a breath or two. The water carried me away as easily as wind blows away daffodils, and I couldn't stop it from pushing me any further. All my eyes could see at the moment were the immense amounts of bubbles that were being blown out my mouth as I struggled to resurface. Oxygen was my only goal, and it was the only thing I was capable of worrying about at that moment.

Other than the immense pain I felt in my chest due to the lack of oxygen, my whole body felt sore and numb because of the amounts of times I bumped into different objects. I felt a bit dizzy as the water currents whirled me around, making it seem as though everything was spinning along with me. There was nothing I desired most at that moment other than raising my head above the heavy medium of contaminated water which was filled with other human bodies, cars and building debris.

Fighting for my own life was something I wasn't used to at all, but I also wasn't willing to fail at my first trial. I mustered all the power left in my body into both of my arms and tried my best to push my whole body upward. With one strong blow, the upper half of my body was sent into the air, causing me to gasp and breathing as much oxygen as my lungs could possibly hold. The sudden contact between the air and my body made me shiver slightly as I let my body go back down while keeping my head raised above the surface. I allowed my eyes to close and my whole body relaxed as it floated calmly on the surface of the water.

It was only a matter of minutes until I realized that floating around wasn't the best option and that was only after I accidentally found myself bumping into random objects floating carelessly alongside me in the water. A couple of meters ahead of me, there was a whole tree trunk floating about and ofcourse I had to take my chance. I allowed my body to swim as fast as it could towards my saviour before the currents could lead it further away from me. Once I was near it, I threw my whole weight on it, causing the whole trunk to sink a bit before it rose up again with my whole body laying on it.

And I thought 2019 was the loveliest year ever! I didn't even get the chance to talk to Jungkook before I die!

Once I felt like my body was stable enough, I decided to sit down and take a look at my surroundings. There were only two words to describe what I saw.

Pure mess.

Most of the trees were down, most cars were broken and simply just floating around in pieces. Two steel fences were lining the sides of what I presumed to be a previous highway, and even beyond that, there were still a couple of trees standing, roots dug firmly into the now muddy ground. Traffic lights, buildings, people, everything! Everything was either destroyed or dead! I didn't even know what part of Seoul I was in, or whether I was in Seoul at all!

Just then, a thought made it's way into my brain and it made me gasp.

'Did the water carry me all the way to North Korea? I've seen something similar happen in Crash Landing on You! What if I die here?! No way!' I thought and at that moment, I knew I had to find out exactly where I was.

However, other than the fact that all the signs that once decorated the sides of the streets were destroyed, I had another serious problem. I was still being carried away by the water, and I couldn't really land anywhere at the moment.

I decided that it was best if I just lay on the trunk that I had and relax until the water currents finally cease. The ride itself was very smooth and relaxing. I think if I wasn't in a life threatening situation at that moment, I would've enjoyed it even more, but I still tried to use this opportunity to relax my nerves and maybe even nap a little until the water currents become a bit more stable. I wouldn't say that I used this opportunity adequately, though, and what hindered me from doing so was the immense pain that I felt in my back everytime I laid down due to the amount of times I've crashed violently against cars and debris.

It wasn't until late evening that the water currents ceased and it was safe to get off the trunk. However, it was getting darker every passing minute, and I didn't know what kind of things I'll face down there.

I was the only living soul wherever I was, and it scared me. My brain couldn't find anything to do but run over all possibilities. It was possible that I was deeply injured and in this case, what worried me was the fact that I didn't know how long I would have to go without medication and how serious my wounds were. I didn't know whether or not my parents were alive, and whether or not I'll find food or water anywhere nearby. Every fact that surrounded me was basically terrifying, but there was nothing for me to do but lay down on the trunk and get drifted across the country.

Hello my lovelies!

Okay I feel like this chapter has been kind of messed up. But, let's wait for more action. This is just the beginning.

As I said in the INTRO.. you need to keep an eye on the dates up there or else you will feel confused. There will be a lot of shifting. But as I said, I'll only use one POV which is Seo Yeon's and that is because time shifting is confusing as is, shifting POVs will only make everything even more confusing, so let's not do that, right? XD.

I really hope you enjoyed this chapter. Remember to spam me because your comments are the joy of my life!

Don't forget to take care and love yourselves,

Thank you all,

I love you,

-R
