Earth Mode ON: THIRTY SEVEN

All I could hear was the faint sound of my breathing as my vision got blurry. I felt someone caress the hair near my hairline, and saw masked people dressed in blue and white move around and pass on some metallic objects that I couldn't see properly. The mad beating of my heart made my chest feel so uncomfortable, and the fact that my breathing was faint but my heart felt energised gave me anxiety. I let myself gulp before finally deciding to close my eyes. I felt very lightheaded, and before I could even think about it, I found myself getting transmitted into my own dream land.

What I heard were sounds of waves clashing against rocks. My vision started getting adjusted gradually as the scent of the salty sea water made it's way into my nose. Once I could see everything properly, I took my time to observe my surroundings. The sun shone the brightest it ever could, and the waves were energetic, clashing against a line of huge rocks decorating the sides of the sea shore. The blue color of the sky mixed with the white clouds that looked like soft cotton candy made my heart flutter and a smile rise on my face. The birds chipped and flew over the vast amounts of water until they disappeared beyond the horizon. The wind blew slightly, making my hair sway on my cheeks as if it was its own dancefloor in a royal ball. The sand was so soft and had a very light brown color, making it look like brown sugar. In a great distance, I could see an area of land filled with trees and colourful flowers which gave more life to the place. Beyond that, there were just some buildings scattered about randomly all over the place, and the lights of cars that kept the streets busy. I looked ahead of me and realized that the place did look familiar.

Jeju island.

I have been here before with my family. We used to come here every summer for a week to spend some quality time together away from the busy life in Seoul. It was also a perfect place for me to take strolls along the sea shore and reflect on different aspects of my life. It was the only time of the year that I was capable of feeling tranquility. I walked every inch of this beach before, so I was pretty aware of where I was.

There was this tree that I always had to sit under to listen to music and read my favorite books everytime I visited the place, and I could see it very clearly from where I was standing. The flowers on it had already bloomed, and so it looked as beautiful as it could ever be. I walked towards it and halted the moment I was under it. The wind blew past me, making a couple of leaves fall from the tree like rain. I stretched my arm out and tried to capture a leaf until I noticed how clean my arm was. I wasn't even scratched one bit. I let my attention divert to my body. I examined both my arms and noticed that both were extremely clean and unharmed. Then I looked down only to see myself in a white, flowy, knee length dress that shone under the sun due to its extreme cleanliness. My hair seemed to be tidy and had the scent of fresh flowers. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and smiled.

What a relief. Everything is over. Even my injured leg seemed alright.

"Seo Yeon!" I heard someone call out. I turned around rapidly at the familiarity of the voice, but it made my eyes widen, because it was the last voice I expected myself to hear.

The moment I was met with the pair of extremely familiar eyes, I held my breath, not being able to process the situation. I was faced with myself, a complete mess. It was myself after the tsunami. I looked completely different from what I looked at that moment. Instead of having tidy, long hair, my hair was disheveled and all over the place, and instead of a long, white, flowy dress, I wore my ripped, favorite pair of pants, ripped, dirty shirt and only one pair of dirty shoes. My leg was wrapped by a muddy bandage which wasn't completely secured around my leg and my face was stained with dark brown mud and so were my arms and every other part of my body that was exposed. My face was also covered with scratches and so was my arms. There were also stains of rotten blood above the dirty bandage that covered my wound. Overall, I looked like a complete mess.

"Is that- Me?" I asked myself as I observed the young, terrified yet strong lady that stood in front of me. Her eyes were cold, yet they didn't fail to portray the hidden amounts of newborn strength within her. We both took slow steps towards each other, my heart beating madly in my chest. Once we faced one another, we started circling each other, observing our different faces. She definitely is me.

Once we had enough of observing our differences, we stopped and just stared at each other. I reached out with my hand towards her and she did the same. Once our fingers touched, she instantly started fading away. I stepped back quickly when I noticed her skin disappear slowly. I watched the scene in front of me with wide eyes and an uneven breath.

Before her face faded away, she smiled at me and said," You are strong Seo Yeon. You always were and you will forever stay that way."

I opened my eyes quickly and sat up straight only to find a concerned Namjoon looking at me with worry. The moment I was able to take my breath, he held my hand and stood up.

"Seo Yeon," he said before pausing to look at my condition," Are you okay? Do you feel anything? Are you in pain?"

I let out a deep breath and allowed my body to fall back down. I closed my eyes and at that moment, I felt Namjoon's hand on my hair, caressing it. My heart started beating extremely fast at first, but it eventually relaxed and enjoyed the feeling of his gentle hands moving about my hair.

"You did well. I'm proud of you," He said and at that I opened my eyes.

I wanted to smile at him, but at that moment, something was bothering me. Namjoon being by my side means that my surgery was done, but what about my leg?

I gulped and held the blanket that covered my body tightly before mustering the courage to ask him," How is my leg? Is it alright now? Did they have to remove it?"

Namjoon gave me a friendly smile before shaking his head in denial," No, your leg is still there. Don't worry about it. You are alright now. You just have to let your leg recover and then you can start walking normally again."

I sighed in relief then closed my eyes again. Everything is really starting to get better. There is more that needs to be fixed, but we can take things step by step. It will all turn out alright at the very end.

"How is Jimin and Hoseok? Did their surgery go well?" I asked Namjoon, still keeping my eyes closed.

"I haven't heard anything about them yet. I wanted to go talk to Taehyung and Jin hyung but I was scared to leave you all alone while you were unconcious," he answered and that's when I opened my eyes. Namjoon sat back down and we both proceeded staring at each other. He held my hand with so much care and used his other hand to pat it slightly.

"Thank you. Really," I said and it made him smile.

"Why are you thanking me? I did nothing," He replied back.

"For being by my side through it all. I really don't know what I would've done without you. You made wise decisions, showed up with a bag filled with things that we couldn't have survived any longer without and showed up at the right times. I would've been dead right now if it wasn't for you. So thank you," I said, feeling my eyes water the moment I recalled what I've been through when I was all alone, starting when I first found a log in the middle of the water to when Namjoon broke the glass and let us all out the car under water.

"I am the one who is thankful to you," He said and stressed the "I".

I furrowed my eyebrows as I wondered what I could've possibly done for him to thank me. All I've been was a wimp who depended on others for help.

"You saved most of my brothers. You were there for Jimin the whole time, you saved Taehyung from dying, you found Jin hyung when you got lost, you pointed out Hoseok to us while we were in the car, and you helped me stay strong emotionally. It means so much to me that you managed to group us together successfully. Thank you so much," He said, the edges of his eyes decorated with tears.

I let a tear fall as I smiled widely at the adorable, sweet person sitting in front of me
He managed to turn me into a an important and successful person in just a mere minute.

"We still have to find Jungkook, Yoongi and my parents. The moment I can stand on my legs again, I will-" I started but was interrupted by him.

"There is no need to get ahead of yourself. Just take your time to rest your body, eat well, drink enough liquids and sleep well. After that we will go searching for everyone. You really don't have to worry," He said and I nodded at him, the smile never leaving my face.

"Alright. I'll take care. Are you not hurt anywhere though? Do you not want a nurse to check up on you?" I asked him but he shook his head.

"I'm fine. Besides, I don't want to leave you alone here. There are thousands and thousands of people here, and the last thing I want is for you to get lost again. It will be hard to find you," He replied.

I just looked at him with a fluttering heart. He really is a sweetheart.

"Can we at least check up on Taehyung and Jin?" I asked him but he rejected my proposal.

"Go back to sleep again. I promise once you are awake, we will go check up on them," He said and I looked at him skeptically.

"You are not lying to me right?" I asked him.

His eyes widened all of a sudden and he said," Of course not! Since when did I ever lie to you?! A promise is a promise!"

"Alright, alright. I was just making sure," I said and his eyes returned back to normal again.

"Come on. Close your eyes and drift off to sleep. I'll be sleeping right here on this chair. If you ever need anything, just reach out to my arm and wake me. I'll be up immediately," He said then pulled my blanket up to my neck.

"Sleep well," He said before leaving a peck on my forehead. I smiled then turned my head to the side and tried to go to sleep.

I'm contented. I just have to sleep and wake up quickly to go see Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung and Jin, then I have to go look for my parents, Yoongi and Jungkook.

Everything will turn out alright.
