Earth Mode ON: SIXTEEN

"What?" He asked me faintly, his posture straightening as he tried to divert all his senses into understanding what I had told him.

"The pipes. They are leaking and it's everywhere," I panted. My brain felt really pressured. Everything was going downhill and there was nothing for me to do. I was on the verge of losing someone so precious to me, someone whom I had always told myself that I'd give up my own life for. Now that that moment came, I felt powerless. At the end, I couldn't sacrifice my life for him, and it only made me feel worse.

"That's not good," he said," If we stay here for longer, the slightest move we can do can set this place on fire. That is, if we don't die from suffocation of course."

This is too much.

I jumped back to the door and tried to get a look at Taehyung whose head was already angled near the ceiling so he can make the most of the amounts of oxygen present around him. My hands formed into tightly clenched fists against the glass pane of the door. The feeling of uselessness and being powerless overwhelmed my heart, causing my chest to ache. I was a computer science major; I didn't know how to deal with such situations.

I found Chung Ae's face near mine, trying to get a view of Taehyung's situation.

"Okay, that's definitely not good," He said then ran off to the area he was searching in and proceeded searching even faster. The more time Chung Ae spent searching for the box, the more Taehyung's chances at survival became slim. It was only a matter of minutes until the only body part of Taehyung that was above the water were his lips which took the shape of a partially shut water to prevent the water from entering his mouth.

"Chung Ae, hurry up!" I shouted over with panic at him, causing his arms to tremble as he moved them around, throwing objects away from his view.

"Don't worry Taehyung. If I'm not wrong, the toolbox should be right about..." he said and searched really quickly and then suddenly shouted," Here!"

He pulled the toolbox out and moved through the equipment really quickly until he found the screwdriver. Once he found it, he ran as quickly as he could to the door and started unscrewing the first nail. The whole while my eyes would only travel from Taehyung to Chung Ae's hands and so on. The water rose to the ceiling completely and so Taehyung took his last breath and allowed himself to sink so he could go back down to the glass pane and see our progress. A small smile formed on his face when he saw Chung Ae working on the nails.

"Hold on Taehyung, I'm nearly done with the first one," Chung Ae let out as he tried to unscrew the nails as quickly as he possibly could. Beads of sweat were forming on Chung Ae's forehead as he tried to keep himself calm while unscrewing the nails.

I looked around me quickly, trying to think of a second plan. If that first plan didn't work out, we would have needed to do something quickly before Taehyung died in there.

Think Seo Yeon. Okay, let's put the situation in a clear form. One of the people you love most is stuck behind a jammed door, is holding his breath and won't be able to take another one until he breaks free. If Chung Ae doesn't unscrew all the nails on time, he will involuntarily open his mouth, or allow the water to enter his nose, thus he will suffocate and die and we still won't be able to open the door, so he will be long dead. We can't allow this to happen. So, what should we do in such a situation?

I scanned the area rapidly and started biting my nails nervously. I looked at Taehyung and it seemed like he was running out of breath already, but Chung Ae only managed to unscrew three nails and there were about seven more nails left.

Taehyung won't be able to hold on any longer. A normal human being can hold his breath underwater for about a minute, a minute and a half maximum. Unscrewing ten nails would take about three to four minutes if the one unscrewing them was talented. I didn't know whether Chung Ae was talented or not, but he said he was a mechanical engineer so he must be good.

"Can't you unscrew them any faster? Taehyung is about to pass out!" I asked Chung Ae who was obviously just as nervous as I was.

"I'm trying, but some of them don't even want to come off!" He grunted as he put in a lot of his arm muscles into action.

"What do you mean they don't want to come off?! Make them come of! You are the engineer!" I said and looked at him with wide eyes. He chose to ignore me and just let out all his frustration onto the nails.

Taehyung was starting to lose control on his body and his eyes were rolling backwards. I put a hand to the glass pane and banged on it, shouting," Taehyung! Taehyung No! Stay with me! Don't give up just yet! We are nearly there!"

In fact, Chung Ae had six more nails to go. At this rate, Taehyung will definitely die in there.

I observed Taehyung as Chung Ae worked as fast as he could and just like I had guessed, he was involuntarily giving up. His body was running out of oxygen extremely quickly and he was going to pass out at any moment.

"Taehyung is passing out. We need to do something. Unscrewing the nails is taking too long, he will be dead by then," I said and continued biting my nails whilst looking around," Is there anything else we can do?"

I waited for some form of response from Chung Ae, but I got none, causing me to look down at him, but he wasn't working anymore. He kept his arms steady against the door and looked down, his chest heaving as he struggled to take his breath. Suddenly, he started coughing heavily, his whole body getting thrown forward as some puke flowed out his mouth. My eyes widened at seeing him like that.

No, no, no! Not you too! You can't leave me!

"Chung Ae! Chung Ae are you okay?!" I shouted and put a hand on his back.

"I'm-I'm fine...the gas... I just... I get dizzy when-" he tried to say, but before he could even complete the sentence, he fell limp in my arms.

No, no, no, no, no! This can't be happening!

What do I do now?!

"Chung Ae! Chung Ae!" I shouted as I slapped his face gently in an attempt of waking him up, but it didn't work.

I looked up at the door and Taehyung was just floating there, looking lifeless.

He passed out! No, no, no, no! He can't pass out in there! What do I do?! Oh god! This can't be happening to me!

I instantly squatted next to the door and pulled the screwdriver quickly out of Chung Ae's hand. There was nothing for me to do but try to unscrew the nails where Chung Ae left off, but just like he had said, some of them didn't rotate no matter how much force you apply.

Taehyung. I can't lose you. Couldn't you have held on a bit more?

I threw the screwdriver away with frustration and looked around me to find anything I could possibly use. By that time, I didn't even know if I would survive the mad beating of my heart or not. I continued looking around me, but unfortunately, I found nothing. There was no use in scanning the area anymore since I had done that ever since we descended those cursed stairs. My body kept on pacing forward and backwards, my knuckles in between my teeth as I thought hard about the next step. I kept on limping my way back and forth until something caught my eyes when I looked at Taehyung.

Two buttons. One red, one green. They weren't lit. Obviously, there is no electricity.

Buttons meant that there was a computer in charge of lighting them up, but where was it? I kept on searching all around, throwing all the trash out of my way. On the floor next to the closed area that Taehyung was locked in, there was a huge box metallic box which I once thought was just a piece of garbage as well. I ran to it and used all my power to open it. There sat a laptop with so many wires connecting it to the two buttons up there through the wall. The computer was turned off.

The door works using a switch. The door isn't made of wood, it is made of metal. Now it all makes sense.

I immediately switched the laptop on and waited for it impatiently. My leg kept on shaking as the laptop was starting.

Come on!

As the computer was being turned on, I started coughing too. I looked around and saw that the computer was under the gas pipe exactly.

OH GOD.

"It's okay Seo Yeon. It's okay. We'll do this real quick and then we'll get Taehyung and Chung Ae out of there safely," I said to myself and then immediately started figuring my way into the laptop once its screen lighted up.

The moment laptop was on, I found the program that had control over the switches, but to gain access to it, a certain password was required. The moment I saw that blank bar, I started freaking out, but then I realized something.

I'm a computer science major. I can hack into the system and unlock the door. Why am I freaking out? I have seen the secrets behind hacking systems before. I can do this!

Okay, let's do this. Let's not freak out for the sake of Taehyung and Chung Ae.

I took in a deep breath and cracked my knuckles. Let's go..

I started working on hacking the system so I could have full control over the switches and in a matter of seconds, I had full access to everything. A smile formed on my face when I saw the green button light up.

Wait. Chung Ae is lying right in front of the door. I need to move him away.

I managed to jump my way towards him, then got a hold of his foot. I used all my energy to drag him across the floor to where the computer was, totally forgetting that it was close to the source of the gas.

"Why. Did. You. Call. Me. Heavy. When. You. Are. As. Heavy. As. A. Freaking. Gorilla?" I managed to say as I dragged him.

The moment he was out of the course of the water, I went to door and used the door knob to open it. The door itself got twisted a bit as it opened because some of its nails were missing. The water immediately started rushing outside the door, soaking everything. Since the whole building was destroyed, there was a relatively small gap in the side of the area that we were standing in, so the water immediately rushed in that direction, carrying most of the trash present on the ground along with it. I waited for Taehyung's body to flow out, and was ready and in position to capture him. Once he was out, I made sure to have a tight grip on him before he got dragged away along with the water. I put his arm around my shoulder and carried his limp body to where Chung Ae's body was despite the pain I felt in my leg. The ground that Chung Ae was laying on was filled with water too, but I still layed Taehyung's body there.

His face was pale and the color that once tinted his lips were long gone; his body felt cold too. I put my shivering fingers against his neck to check for his pulse, but found none.

No breathing. No pulse. He is dead....
