Earth Mode ON: SEVENTEEN

[--, 2017, Seoul, South Korea]

"Leave me alone!" I shouted as I sat on my bed, tears flowing down my face. I stuffed my face into the set of pillows that adorned my bed and weeped into them, releasing a couple of muffled wails. The knocking on my bedroom door was vibrating in my ears, making me feel even more frustrated.

That was the day that I lost her, my childhood friend. She was my everything. Despite all the friends that I had in my life, she was the only one I actually felt happy with. However, this all changed. We were together for too long, but she back stabbed me. She left the world and left me to deal with this life alone. How could I ever forgive her?

I couldn't even see her anymore. She was the closest person to my heart, and I couldn't believe that she left me forever without even saying goodbye.

My heart aches, and the more I cried, the more I felt like it was going to stop beating. I spent more than half of the day crying my eyes out. There was no reason for me to eat or drink anything. All I thought about was her, and it just kept on making everything worse.

The sun had already started to set, causing an orange ray of sunlight to bust it's way through my window, between my curtains and into my room, making the porcelain floor shine. Just then, as if God was comforting me, as if a miracle was sent down to me, I heard Taehyung's angelic voice singing to me.

"Bogo sipda (bogo sipda), Bogo sipda (bogo sipda)," I heard, but then the sound faded away.

Spring Day.

I sniffed before sitting straight and standing up from my bed then walked to my desk where a picture of the two of us laughing laid peacefully.

I needed to hear it, I really did.

[Present]

Cold. Dead. That was all I could decipher from the sight that was in front of me. Taehyung's body, which was once healthy and alive, was lying on the ground cold and long dead. The newly acknowledged fact of his death made it hard for me to look at him any longer, to think about him, to even touch him. It all felt unreal to me, and I couldn't help but think one thing: I was the death of him, literally.

"Taehyung?" I let out as my shaky hands made their way to his face. I couldn't help but allow my tears to flow while observing all the cuts and bruises that were scattered around his face.

"Taehyung," I cried out faintly, letting my hand sink down onto his soaked shirt. The sound of my sobbing was the only sound I was capable of hearing since Taehyung's breath was nonexistent by then.

"You are only playing around with me right?" I asked him after sniffing, my eyes still filled with enormous amounts of tears which proceeded pouring down everytime I couldn't receive a response from him.

"Taehyung, wake up. Please," I begged as I shook his shoulder lightly, causing his upper half to move along due to the lack of resistance.

He is gone Seo Yeon. Taehyung is no longer there. Accept that fact because it's the truth.

I kept on shaking my head at the thought that replayed in my head and wiped my tears with the back of my hand, releasing a couple of hiccups as I did so.

He can't die. I have to bring him back. I don't know how long he has been dead, but I'll bring him back.

I licked my dry lips and gulped before crossing my hands on his chest.

CPR. I practiced it in my emergency aid course in high school. I don't know if it'll work, but I'll give it a go.

Without any second thoughts, I started applying pressure to his chest. One push after another, my whole body kept on moving alongside my hands as my arms pushed my hands harshly against his chest. My tears kept on falling down onto Taehyung's chest, drop by drop until it seemed as though he was laying under drizzling rain.

"Come on Taehyung," I grunted as I pushed my hands down onto his chest with all my energy.

Once the number of counts had reached thirty, I titled his head upward and blocked his nose using my fingers then put my lips onto his and started blowing air into his mouth.

He has to wake up.

I put my hands on his chest and started applying pressure all over again. For a long time, I did nothing but go back and forth between his lips and chest, but it didn't seem like it was doing the trick.

"Taehyung, please," I whispered under my own breath then started pushing down against his chest again, my tears flowing down my face the more I looked at his face.

Come on Taehyung!

There was gas everywhere, and the water from the busted pipe kept on flowing at a very fast pace, making it hard to keep Taehyung still on the ground, so I decided to carry his body to a higher ground. I managed to ascend the stairs with his body then immediately started with the CPR procedure again.

Whatever I did, though, Taehyung was still lying there, showing no signs of consciousness at all. The image of his pale face was the only thing that was displayed in my head, making me cry even more.

"Taehyung wake up!" I shouted at him as his body shook slightly due to the force I was applying on his chest.

"Why aren't you waking up?! Why?!" I roared in frustration and proceeded punching his chest angrily.

He'll wake up. He has to.

Come on. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixt-

Just then, an enormous amount of water got thrown at me, causing me to flinch and move away to give him enough room to empty out his lungs.

A smile formed on my face slowly as he supported his own body up so that the water can flow out of his mouth. His loud coughs were all I could hear at that moment, its sound making my heart beat faster in happiness and relief. After getting rid of the water that once clogged his lungs, he sat up straight and started gasping for air then let himself fall back down onto the floor, making a loud thud in the process.

Taehyung is back.

"Are you okay?" I asked him, putting my trembling hand against his shoulder.

He sat up then nodded his head at me, causing a wave of relief to run through my body. I nearly cried due to my extreme relief, but then he pulled my arm and hugged me tight. His wet hair kept on dripping on my shirt, causing me to flinch at first. He continued panting against my shoulder and held me tight.

"Th-thank you," he let out then continued panting.

I let my tears flow silently as I heard the air move into and out of his body.

Thank god.

However, that moment didn't last long. Out of nowhere, we started hearing clicking noises. Taehyung pulled away from the hug and looked around, but I think I knew where this sound came from because the next thing I did was divert my attention to Chung Ae who was laying in the water right next to the box that contained the laptop. I immediately stood up and jumped my way towards Chung Ae's body. Once I was there, I noticed that there was blood flowing down his nose and onto his lips. My eyes widened the moment my brain realized what that meant.

"What's this smell?" I heard Taehyung ask from behind me. He started walking through the heavy medium of water around us, causing more water to flow near Chung Ae's body. The moment he saw what I was looking at, his whole body froze next to mine. He immediately sat down next to me on his knees and started examining Chung Ae.

"W-what happened to him?" He asked me with wide eyes.

"Gas leakage," I said then clenched my teeth and put an arm under Chung Ae's body.

"We have to get out of here before it is too late," I said. Taehyung put his arm under Chung Ae's body too and we both carried him. While we were working our way up the stairs, I heard so much clicking coming from the direction of the box.

I looked down and saw sparks forming where the laptop was. My eyes widened and I could feel my heart getting out of control.

"We need to move faster," I said and tried to jump even faster. Taehyung held my arm too and pulled me faster as he walked.

The clicking noises were far away from where we were as we made our way up the stairs as quickly as we possibly could and into the hallway, but it felt as if it was clicking right next to my ear.

"Taehyung we have to run!" I shouted at him as the pace of the clicking increased.

There it is. The exit. We just have to get out of he-

Before I could even complete my trail of thoughts, the three of us were blown away. I grunted as my body hit the hard ground, and held my ears in an attempt to cease the ringing. My eyes got sealed shut as I tried to tolerate the throbbing pain that I felt in my head and abdomen.

Taehyung. Chung Ae!

I sat up straight immediately despite the pain I was in and looked around, horrified. Taehyung was trying to raise himself back up, while Chung Ae was just lying there. Taehyung's face was a mix of blood, dirt and ash. I saw how he crawled backwards in fear as he saw the fire rising, its reflection growing on his iris. The orange color of the fire got reflected on his wet face and hair, making him seem even more angelic.

The sparks caused the gas to burn this entire place up. Any food or supplies we could have brought out from this place is all gone.

I stood up and limped my way to Taehyung's side then helped him stand on his feet.

"Are you okay?" I asked him and he nodded quickly.

Chung Ae.

He was lying on his torso and his whole face was dirty. Taehyung and I ran to his aid and we rolled him over. I checked his pulse and it was still there, so my heart felt a little relieved.Taehyung and I tried to wake him up, but we got no response.

As we were putting in all our efforts into waking him up, we heard some noises come from the side of the burning building. It sounded like glass being constantly hit.

Suddenly, we saw something get thrown out from a window and then got followed by a couple of other things.

What is this? The place is burning down with a human inside?!

Taehyung and I ran to wherever we saw the things get thrown and our eyes widened. It was a mattress and a bag. We looked up and saw a person standing at the edge of the window. He seemed so hesitant since the fire was everywhere, but we couldn't see who he was.

"Jump! You have to jump!" Taehyung shouted at him.

"Jump onto the mattress!" I shouted, and at that exact moment, that person jumped through the fire and onto the mattress. Once he landed, he immediately caught the bag that was with him and tried running away when the mattress under him caught fire. The tip of his pants was caught in the fire, causing him to constantly hit it with the bag he had. He stumbled a couple of times before getting back on his feet and started running in our direction.

His face was dirty and I saw him wipe his face with the back of his hand. I couldn't see him clearly, but when he was under our sight, we both widened our eyes, and Taehyung kept on shifting forward.

And that was the first time I actually felt grateful towards fire.
