Tim was talking about his best friend when my mobile rang. I read the message which was really unimportant. Whilst doing that my view fell on the time. "Oh fuck I really need to get the starter list from the registration office!" I cursed after seeing what time it was. It was aready half past three. I quickly stood up and wanted to leave. He looked at me very confused. "Why do you have to?" he asked. "Well guess who's riding the competition at 4 o'clock" I said very proudly. He looked me in the eyes and smiled. "Cool" he said then. I didn't know if he remembered how much this meant to me but at least he smiled at me. I turned around, ready to go away when I suddenly heard his voice behind me. "Wait, I'll go with you" he decided. And surprisingly he actually acccompanied me to the registration office and didn't leave me alone half way there.
At the registration office I found out that I had to ride at the start of the competition which would be very soon. Having seen the list too late it was very hectic because I only had thirty minutes for doing everything. I rushed over to Lady's new box and tried to groom her as accurately as possible. I didn't have enough time to do it properly – I was in a hurry!
Luckily Tim had left and didn't get in my way. Now he was hanging out with some of his friends. Everybody in this business knew everybody and everyone was friends with everyone. Or at least pretended to be. Obviously there were always people that you didn't get along with but those people were great to slander about. And he was talked about a lot. But not in a bad way. He was obviously very popular. From a young age on he had always been in the horse riding business and through his early successes he became popular very quickly. Also, his mum had ridden some competitions too. Moreover he was everything but not ugly. The girls in my age were all really into him. And of course it was no surprise – good-looking and talented boys their, and my, age were very rare.
I carefully put Lady's saddle and snaffle on. Then I dressed. I glided into my jacket and put on my leather boots. Now I started to become a little bit nervous. Knowing that he would probably watch me ride made me feel really uncomftable. Luckily Lady was a very experienced horse so she didn't become nervous at all. She was more excited. I could feel her energy and motivation when we rode over to the warming-up arena where I warmed us up.
A few minutes later, I saw Jenny standing behind the fence. In this stress I had totally forgotten to check my phone if she would come or not, but she was here. Her skin was pale and her eyes tired. Summed up she didn't look great but for me it was first a big honour that I was allowed to start and second that she had come here despite her illness.
I rode over to her to be given some helpful tips. We went through the parcours together in our thoughts once again which gave me a lot of security. We also talked about my most frequent mistakes and how I could prevent them. Then she started to calm me down. It was easy to. She basically just started talking about her dog who had ruined her sofa yesterday. Because of this I got distracted and wasn't afraid anymore. Nervousity was a difficult thing for me. I usually never became nervous but when I was standing right in front of my challenge it would hit me very badly.
After our conversation I felt like I was actually ready for this competition. I felt like I could actually do this.
