fated

you can tempt fate,
wave your safety like a surrender,
recklessly toy with fire,
wait for a divine intervention,
but fate will tempt you.

you can defy fate,
scream to the stars while holding the poison in your hand,
force yourself to fall into the abyss of the unknown,
all in pursuit of some end to your prophecy,
but fate will defy you.

you can blame fate,
leave you conscience in a void of denial,
act as a puppet whose brain functions on pure chance,
call fortune your blessing as well as your curse,
but fate will blame you.

you can question fate,
belittle it and challenge it,
contradict its power with evidence you sought for,
pretend as though it will not swallow everything around you,
but fate will question you.

you can love fate,
cherish it in every crevice of your body,
give yourself up to its fiery and temperamental will,
allow it to rule over you like a goddess,
but fate will not love you.

So I suppose this is partially inspired by the fact that I had to write an essay about the theme of fate in Romeo and Juliet, but I'm also fascinated with fate and whether our lives are already mapped out for us. Feedback is welcomed with open arms.
