Chapter Thirty-Two
"Guys, The particle accelerator is fully charged and online. Whatever Wells needs it for, it's ready." Cisco said through the microphone as Barry and I made a bolt to the Cortex.
I looked at Barry, already knowing what he was planning. "Barry no. You can't go out there-"
"Yes I can. And I'm gonna." He said before making a mad dash to Wells.
I groaned in frustration, my hands together as I fell into my chair, clutching Barry's locket. "Don't get yourself killed, Bar." I muttered.
"You can't beat me, Mr. Allen." Wells said. And just then, two familiar faces appeared, bringing a smile to me, Caitlin, and Cisco's faces.
"Ronnie." Caitlin muttered as Cisco said his alias "F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M."
"What the hell is Ollie? Chopped chicken nuggets?" I said as they both chuckled before things went serious again.
I watched as the three heroes tried to fight off Wells, only to fail. I grumbled, standing up as Cisco and Caitlin tried to hold me down.
"They need me right now, guys. Don't try and stop me." Something inside of my body clicked, my hands instantly lighting up like a Christmas tree as I ran out of STAR labs.
I stopped at the glass door, staring at my reflection. My eyes. . . They looked just like the Reverse Flash. Red.
At this point I ignored it, creating a ball of energy, or maybe it was light, in my hands as I ran out, hurling it at Wells.
I managed to knock him off Oliver, no doubt startling the five people that were watching.
"C-Cora." Wells grunted as he stood up, chuckling like a maniac. "I was wondering when you'd figure out that power."
"Oh I've known for a while, lemon head." I snarled as Wells chuckled again.
"Let's see how fast your light is compared to speed." Wells snapped as I tilted my head slightly, creating a large ball of energy, and hurling it straight at Harrison Wells.
He was flown back, most likely surprising him as he was knocked out by a car.
"Cora. . . You-" Barry stuttered as he looked at his enemy, then at me, which made me put my hand up.
"No questions right now." I said as I kicked Wells hard in the face, a smirk crossing my own. "Alright, down into the pipelines he goes."
☀︎︎
I glared daggers into Harrison Wells eyes, hoping he would no I was anything but scared of him. At this point, I think anything scarier than Wells was Grodd.
"What? No Big Belly Burger?" Wells asked as I scoffed.
"Expect a piece of shit as big as you in the next burger you get from us." I snapped as Cisco inhaled sharply, coughing in his slushee as he tried to laugh.
"Well. It's one of the many perks here. Cows don't exist where I come from." Wells said as I crossed my arms, rolling my arms as Barry sighed loudly.
"136 years from now." Eobard answered. Arry's question, one which I had ignored but guessed it was something about his age.
"Go ahead Barry. Ask it." Eobard said as I glared at him once more.
"Why did you kill my mother?" Barry asked, Eobard's face not changing a single bit.
"Because I hate you." He said before turning to me. "And I dislike you just as much."
"Just because you say you dislike me doesn't mean I'll believe you. I'm great." I said with a quirk of my brow as Eobard crack out a laugh.
"You were always one to crack a joke in the most serious times, Cora. That's what I liked most about you." Eobard said as I grimaced.
"Shut it you ugly git." I snapped as Cisco 'ooooed' from the reference, high fiving me from the back before exiting the pipeline.
"Anyways, none of this matters anymore. Why I hate you, that is. What matters is that neither of us was strong enough to defeat the other. Until I learned your secret. I learned your name. Barry Allen. And finally, I knew how to defeat you once and for all. Travel back in time, kill you as a child. Wipe you from the face of the earth. But then you, future you, that is, followed me back, and we fought. We both landed some pretty solid shots. And then you, future you, got your younger self out of there. I was so mad. But then I thought... what if you were to suffer a tragedy? What if you were to suffer something so horrible, so traumatic that your child self could never recover? Then you would not become The Flash. And so I stabbed your mother in the heart, and I was free. Finally able to return to a future without The Flash only to realize that in traveling back I'd lost my way home. Lost my ability to harness the speed force. And without it, I was stuck here. Stranded in this time, unable to return to my own. And the only way back was The Flash. But The Flash was gone, and so I created him." Eobard rambled as I rolled my eyes.
"Why train me? Why help me save so many people?" Barry asked as I continued to stay silent.
"Because I needed you to get fast. Fast enough to rupture the space-time barrier and create a stable wormhole through which I could return home." Eobard said before I placed my hand on Barry's back, whispering that I'd be in the cortex.
And with that, I left Barry and Eobard to talk.
☀︎︎
After what felt like an eternity, I found myself in the Time Vault, standing in front of Barry. "Woah! Ah- What are we doing in here? This place gives me the creeps." I said as Barry paced back and forth. "Barry?"
"Wells said I can go back in time. And- And. . ." Barry started to stutter over his words.
"English Barry. I don't understand your gibberish language." I said as Barry turned to me.
"He said I can save my mom." His voice cracked as the air got aight in my throat.
"Barry that. That's amazing." I said as I took his hands in mine, but he shook his head, causing me to frown. "What's wrong?"
"Everything." Barry answered, only for me to frown again. "If I go back in time and save my mom, everything will change. I won't live with Iris and Joe. I-I won't become the flash. . . I won't meet you." Barry said as I looked down at my feet.
"Barry I-I know this is a hard choice, but I won't care which choice you make. You have the chance to go back in time. Save your mom. If it was my mom I'd do it in a heartbeat. But I understand why you don't want to at the same time. You've made a life with us here at star labs and. . . It's the greatest life we could ever live." I said as Barry's nose dropped with tears.
"I won't be angry at you if you chose to save your mom. You deserve to be with both of your parents, Bar." I said with a forced smile as I looked up at him.
"Maybe we should talk to everyone about this." I suggested as Barry nodded, and out we went, back to the cortex.
☀︎︎
For what felt like an eternity we talked about Barry going back in time and saving his mom. For what felt like an eternity we made pros and cons.
Everyone said he should do it, but there was one thing on Barry's mind that stopped him from wanting to. And I knew it was me. Because there was something here the day I chose to move to Central City, and I knew that if Barry changed the timeline, I'd never move here, and he'd never meet me.
Again.
"Barry. . . Maybe your dad and Iris should have a say in this." I said as Barry looked at me, frowning.
"What do you mean? They're going to say yes." Barry said as I crossed my arms, shrugging.
"I mean, you're changing their lives too. They should have a say." I said as Barry dropped his head, nodding.
"Alright. Alright I'll go talk to them."
☀︎︎
I watched Barry and Eobard talk about doing something with colliding to create a wormhole, allowing Eobard to go back to the future, and Barry, the past.
It was still confusing to me.
"According to Wells' calculations, Barry super-speeds inside the accelerator ring. Once Barry reaches optimum speed, we then launch a hydrogen proton into the accelerator. Once the collision happens a wormhole forms, opening a gateway into time itself." Cisco said as Professor Stein walked up.
"It's at that moment I plan on shouting something along the lines of "Eureka" or possibly "Excelsior."" He said as I hummed.
"It's at this moment where you can find me saying 'Great Scott!' " I said with a laugh as Cisco's mouth dropped open.
"This is literally the perfect moment for a Back to the Future reference." Cisco said as I shrugged.
"So anyway, how fast does Barry have to run?" Caitlin asked as Professor Stein thought.
"At my estimate, Mach Two at a minimum." He said as my eyes widened, catching me off guard.
"Barry has never run that fast." I said as Barry nodded, clearly now scared. "And if he doesn't reach that speed. . ."
"I'm imagining a bug hitting a windshield." Cisco said as I nodded.
"How far off is he?" Caitlin asked as Professor Stein made a face.
"Not very far, I'm afraid."
