Chapter Six
"Barry there's a fire on Western and Third, downtown Central City!" I yelled through the comms and rolled into my chair next to Cisco.
"On my way!" Barry yelled through the coms. Cisco propped his legs up on the arm of my chair as I went to type something in, my head slowly turning to look at his feet before my eyes met him.
"Feet off." I grabbed his shoes, swinging them off the chair. "My chair." I dropped his feet, which slapped onto the ground as he frowned at me, biting into a fry.
"Did you get any Big Belly Burger for me?" I said with puppy eyes as Cisco sighed, nodding as I turned to the red dot on the screen, which zoomed to downtown Central City as Cisco handed me a large fry.
"Barry? People are going to die if you don't speed up!" I said as I inhaled a fry, coughing before hitting my chest. Cisco's eyes widened, going to slowly take a fry from me after he finished his.
I noticed his hand creeping closer, which I grabbed in an instant, my eyes, which started to water, locking into his fearful ones.
"Touch my fries and I'll deep fry your fingers. And eat them." I said with a glare as Cisco gave me a terrified laugh, snatched his wrist out of my grip as we turned to see Barry stop six blocks from the destination.
"Did I miss it?" Barry said as me and Cisco nodded.
"By about six blocks." Me and Cisco said together as we heard Barry sigh.
"Well don't just stand there, you dork, get a move on!" I yelled as nicely as possible, shoving a few fries down my throat.
"You there yet?" Cisco asked, seeming somewhat impatient.
"What are you two doing?" I aggressively flinched, sending a few fries out of their packaging, a frustrated groan escaping my lips.
"Man my fries!" I cried as Caitlin raised a brow to me and Cisco.
"Um. Nothing." Cisco answered, setting his lemonade down.
"Who are you talking to?" Caitlin asked as me and Cisco gave each wary looks.
"No one." We said together as Caitlin snorted quietly.
"Are you guys talking to Barry?" She asked.
"Barry? Whose Barry? I don't remember knowing a Barry. I think I'd remember a name like Bartholomew." I said as Cisco nodded.
"Yeah because that name is totally-"
"Cora, Cisco ! There's fire everywhere!" Barry yelled through the comms as I squinted my eyes, hitting the arm of my chair as I slowly turned around.
"Cora?" Barry said as the crackling of Fire was heard. "Cisco you guys there?"
There was a whole lot of wind before Barry spoke again. "Guys, everyone's out. What's next for me?" Barry asked, a hint of a smile in his voice.
Caitlin pushed her way between me and Cisco, who gave her a defeated look. "Barry. It's Caitlin."
"...Heeeeeey Caitlin... H-How's your day?" Barry said, his voice cracking into a high pitch for a moment. Caitlin presses her lips together in a forced smile, her nose upturning.
"Get back to star labs. Now." Caitlin said, a hint of force in her voice that had scared me for a moment.
"I'd listen to her Barry, Caitlin looks like she might kill us and I'm not ready to die yet. I haven't finished my fries." I said as there was a chuckle through the comms.
"On my way." Barry said, and in a few seconds, he was sniffing into the middle of the cortex, more of my fries flying out of their packaging.
"Oh come on!" I said, slamming my now cold fries on the table. "Can't even eat my fries without someone scaring me or zooming in." I said with a pout, leaning back in my chair and slumping as Barry gave me an apologetic look.
But who he should really be apologizing is Caitlin, who looks like her favorite toy was just taken from her hands.
"Have you three lost your minds? Who do you think you are?!" Caitlin, said, walking up to Barry.
"Well. I'm the eyes, Cora's the ears, and Barry's the feet." Cisco said as I held back a smile and nod.
"This isn't funny. You could have gotten yourself killed! You can't be running around the city like some supersonic fireman." Caitlin yelled as I fiddled with my thumbs.
"And why not? We talked about using my speed for good!" Barry said with a troubled look.
"We talked about you helping contain people... who have been affected by the particle accelerator explosion. Meta-humans. And aside from Clyde Mardon, we haven't found any." Caitlin said as I groaned.
"People still need help in this city, Caitlin! And Barry can help them!" I protested as Caitlin shit me a glare.
"We... Can help them." Cisco added in as I nodded. Caitlin looked behind me and Cisco, a pleading look in her eyes.
"Will you please say something?" She said, me and Cisco turning to see Dr. Wells.
My heart skipped a beat for a moment. But the fearful beat.
"I think what Dr. Snow is trying to say in her own, spectacularly angry way..." Wells started as he rolled over to Barry and Caitlin. "Is that we are just beginning to understand what your body is capable of."
"Not to sound like a broken record, Mr. Allen and Miss Agápi but... I do caution restraint." I quietly huffed through my nose as I have Barry a look, telling him not to push it.
But he did, and as he had a quick argument with Dr. Wells, I tapped Cisco's arm, pointing at Barry's vitals, which had spiked for an unknown reason when he was at the fire.
"Hey guys. Anything happen today?" Barry said as Caitlin and Wells walked and rolled out.
"The sensors in your suit... kicking back weird telemetry." Cisco said as I rose a brow.
"Weird. What?" I said as Cisco ignored me.
"Your vitals spiked for a few moments." I made an O with my lips as I turned to Barry.
"You feeling alright?" I asked as he smiled, nodding.
"Never felt better." Barry said as he got a phone call. "Hey Joe!" Barry said before his face contorted into a grimace.
"I'll be there in a moment.." Barry said, hanging up. "Our day job beckons." Barry said to me as I rose a brow.
"'My day job.'? Barry I don't work at-" before I could finish my sentence, his arms lifted me up in a quick, swift motion, and soon I was in an alley next to Barry.
"Barry what the hell!" I said, slapping his arm. "I'm. You do realize that you're still wearing your suit, right?" I said as Barry looked down, cursing under his breath as he searched for a shop.
He dragged me with him into the local clothes shop, quickly buying an outfit and changing before taking me to the crime scene.
"Barry I may have done a few years of college in the forensics field but I don't work here-"
"Hey joe! You remember Cora, right?" Barry said with a smile as Joe looked over at me, a confused look on his face.
"Barry, care to explain why she is here?" Joe asked as Barry smiled for a moment, pulling out a piece of paper from his bag, handing it to Joe.
"Barry. What. the hell. is that?" I asked, pulling him down to whisper in his ear.
"S.T.A.R. Labs doesnt pay you enough for the apartment you live in since you're new, so I Uh... May have gotten you a job as my forensics partner." Barry answered as my eyes widened.
"Mr. Allen. Doing a little fall shopping?" Captain Singh asked as he showed Barry a rage that was still on his coat.
"S-sorry in late, Captain and uh heh.. Must have not seen it when I was rushing this morning." Barry answered, yanking the tag off.
"Yeah. Miss Agápi. It's good to see you on your first day. Shame we didn't have a meeting first." The Captain smiled as I nodded awkwardly.
"Yeah well... I wasn't exactly expecting to have this job for a few more years..." I smiled as he hummed, walking away.
"I downloaded surveillance footage off the camera." Joe said, pointing at all the dirt on the ground. "Looks like only one perp."
"Footage May only show one but-" Barry said before I cut him off.
"There's six." I said, kneeling down in front of all the dirt. "The footprints are all crossing one another.six guns stolen, and six sets of footprints." I continued as Captain Singh gave Joe a shocked look, but Joe was just as surprised to hear what I said.
Barry, on the other hand, was ecstatic. "And they're all the same size. 10's in men's." Barry answered as he knelt next to me, turning to Joe and Singh.
"Just like you Captain." Barry said as my eyes widened for a moment. "Uh- not that you're a suspect or anything."
"Your ability to multitask is remarkable, Barry Allen. The way you can embarrass me, the Captain, and yourself at the same time." Joe said as I snickered under my breath. Barry stood up, walking over to Joe as I continued working.
The only thing I got out of their entire conversation was. "I'm starting to think that 'Joe im sorry' is actually my name with how many times you've said it, Barry."
As I looked through the dirt, I frowned, grabbing a pair of tweezers as plucking out a small, glowing fragment of what looked to be film, like the crinkly kind you'd find on the wings of a Pegasus stuffed animal.
Not like I had that as a kid or anything... I miss you, Sir Peggy.
But there was also a hair on said film, which I quickly stuck into an evidence bag that I knew me and Barry would test later.
"Cora, lets go. Joe wants us at the lab." Barry said as I nodded, giving the film one last look before stuffing it in my bag, knowing I'd test on it later without anyone knowing.
"Coming." I said as I stood up, following after Barry. "So is this the part where you sweep me off my feet without warning and I'm gasping for breath when we stop or-"
And just like that, I was in Barry's arms again.
