NINE

NINE

"You think mum will like it?" I asked Scott, staring down at the bag of food that we had just brought for her in for work. We walk the Beacon Hills hospital emergency hall.

I spot mum at the receptionist. This place was for sure busy, bombarded with injured people. Mum looks really tired and stressed, trying to keep this place under control.

Mum turns around and spots me and Scott walking towards her with Scott holding a bag of food. She walked over to us.

"I'm starving." Mum said, taking the food off of us. I purse my lips together, watching her place down the food on the counter. "Oh." Mum turns to us, and I smiled. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Thank you for bringing me dinner."

Mum hugs Scott, then she hugs me. "Is everything okay?" Scott asked as soon as mum lets go of my hug.

Mum looks down the hallway. "Expect for half the accident victims in a 10-car pile-up being rerouted here from downtown, and the ER attending not answering any of his pages? Yeah, I'm okay,"

"What does not answering pages mean?" I asked.

"It means that nobody can find him." Mum explains, Scott and I gave each other a look. "So now we have to wait for the on-call to get here."

A patient then walked over to mum, her arm holding her stomach. She looked like she was in pain, poor women. "Miss?"

"Yes?" Mum turns to the patient.

"Excuse me. Can I kind of please have something for the pain?" The women whimpers.

"Okay, I'm sorry, I know." Mum nods her head at the girl. "But actually giving you something could complicate things, so..." Mum backs away the patient from us, talking to her in private.

I looked over at Scott who had his... thinking face on. "What are you thinking, Scotty boy?"

"You wanna know? Follow me." I frown at his words and watched as he walked over to the patient.  I sit down beside Scott, who sat next to the lady. "Ah... you know, I read online that sometimes human contact can help with the pain." The girl whimpers, but nods her head at the same time. Scott's eyes scanned the room, looking for anyone's watching.

Scott slowly puts his hand on the girl's, she may not notice it, but I can. I can see black lines going all the way up his arms, I know what he's doing. He's taking her pain. I smiled. I watch as the girl gasps, and the whimpering stops. Scott took her pain away, the girl looks over at him.

"Someone... someone help me!" Someone cried through the hospital, and my head turns sharply as I recognized the voice, Ethan.  My eyes widen when I see Danny leaning on Ethan, one arm around Ethan. "I need help!"

"Okay, gentle, gentle!" Mum eased Danny onto the chair, Danny screams in pain and Ethan stands over and watches.

I pull back Ethan. "What did you do to him!?" I hiss, everyone likes Danny.

"Nothing." Ethan bites back. "He said he was having chest pains and trouble to breathe, but it kept getting worse."

"This is not good." Mum told us, Danny's breathing was heavy, up and down went his chest. He looked like he was struggling. "How much longer on Dr. Hilyard?" Mum called. "His larynx has shifted to the side. I think it's a tension pneumothorax."

Danny then gets up and leans over, throwing up some white substance. My eyes widen and I felt myself jerk back, I look to my right and saw Scott there with an arm out... being the overprotective brother he is.

"Mistletoe." Ethan spoke, my head snaps towards Ethan. What?

"Can you three please go back into the waiting room?" Mum requests as me, Scott, and Ethan follow behind Danny in a stretcher behind mum. They go into a slot.

"Where're the nurses and the doctors? Where is everyone?" Ethan asked, worried about Danny.

"It's a full house tonight. They're tending other patients." Mum informed Ethan, standing aside Danny.

"Okay, well, mum. How can we help?" Scott asked.

"Honey, you can't. His lung is collapsed." Mum told us. "His heart is being pushed against his chest cavity now."

"He's gonna die, isn't it?" I whisper, my eyes widening.

Mum looks around. "No, no he's not. Scott, you grab the tape. You grab those scissors and cut open his t-shirt."

I watch mum pull one a draw, and brings out a needle and my eyes widen even further. Oh no, I'm not going to throw up. Mum scowled at me for being a wuss.

Ethan rips opened Danny's t-shirt by hand, pft. Screw scissors.

My eyes widen when I realize Danny's not breathing. "Mum, he's not breathing."

"I know, I know." Mum calmly said. "Okay," Mum finds a spot on Danny's left shoulder, and jabs it in there. I cringed. Oh god. Soon, Danny was breathing again and I exhale. And so did Danny. "Okay, here we go." Mum then pulls out the big needle, and Danny looked... normal again.

"Thank you." Danny whispers, my mum just did that.

Mum smiled at Danny. "No problem." My mouth was hung open, and mum looks around, smiling. "What?"

"That was awesome." I told her and smiled back.

Mum chuckles. "It wasn't a... no problem, you know. I mean, it wasn't a big deal." I rolled my eyes at how stubborn she was.

Scott and I exit the hospital the same night. I couldn't stop smiling. My mum was a hero. No, she is a hero. You don't need a cap to identify yourself as a hero. My mums a freaking hero.

I grab the helmet of Scott's bike. Yes, I rode on it for the first time. Freaking scary if you ask me. I turn my head to look back and noticed Ethan coming down the stairs.

Ethan stands in front of the dirt bike and raises his hand in a mock of surrender. "I know you're not going to believe me, but I didn't do anything."

"All I know is that the minute you got here, you went right for Danny. And your brother went for Lydia." Scott started.

"We're not gonna hurt him." Ethan shakes his head.

"Why should we believe you?" I snap.

"Because we knew one of them was important to either one of you, now we know who." I bite the inside of my cheek, and behind Ethan, I can see a car with their headlights on strolling in. "And now we know its Lydia."

My focus was on the car that was driving straight, it was going in and out. I put the helmet on the handlebars and stepped forward. The car drives into a park, crashing the car that was in the park.

I took a sprint towards the car, Scott close behind me. I pull open the car door, and there was no one inside it. I took a step car.

"What is it?" Ethan asked.

Scott then picked up a moth that was on the black leather seats and stares at it.

"Two missing..." Stiles trailed off to his father.

This hospital has now turned into a crime scene. Stiles stands next to me, with his arms wrapped around me, Scott on the other side of me, and mum next to Scott and Sheriff Stilinski.

The sound of cop car alarms flies through my head, which is starting to really piss me off.

"Hang on there." Sheriff cuts his son off. "They were both in the car?"

"No, dad. What they're trying to tell you that it was two separate kidnappings, okay? Two doctors, both gone." Stiles explained better.

"So who's car is this?" Sheriff asked.

"Dr. Hilyard. The on-called doctor. The ER attending is the one that never made it in." Mum nods. I then shift away from Stiles, and just did a side hug instead.

"Let me just focus on getting your story in first, okay?" Sheriff asked mum.

"Yeah." Mum said and they turn their heads to us.

"Guys, give us a second."

We dismiss ourselves. Walking away from them. Stiles reached for my hand, and we intertwine our hands.

"These are definitely scarfies, right?" Scott asked and I agreed.

"Yeah," Stiles started, gripping my hand. "It's one Deaton mention. Healers." Stiles looked down at me, and I bite my lower lip. I remember him saying that.

"What about Danny?" I asked. "He threw up mistletoe. That's not a coincidence. And if he hadn't been with Ethan, he probably would've died. And Danny's not a healer?"

"I..."  Stiles trails off, and looks past Scott's shoulder. "Can you hear that?" My boyfriend points over to mum and the Sheriff, meaning the conversation.

"They found a body," Scott turns back to us.

I let out a laugh.

"That's iconic. Isn't that how all this started?" I asked allowed, but they both ignored me.
