Chapter 5: Silence
"Listen to silence, it has so much to say."
-Rumi
Silence.
We all find ourselves longing for it at one point in our lives. Sometimes it's when children are screaming in supermarkets and other times it's when we simply wish to sit quietly and think.
We all long for silence at some point.
But what none of us realize...is that silence can be deafening.
Some of us are surrounded by people at most times, whether it be our friends or our siblings and so we cherish the times when we can just sit alone and think by ourselves.
However, some of us...are completely alone...all the time.
Some of us live in silence...quietly existing to ourselves as the noisy world goes on around us. We live in a soundproof box that blocks out every single sound until we are left with nothing but our thoughts..
To some of us....any kind of noise is welcomed...any kind of sound is music to our ears...
But we would never tell anyone that...because then...we would no longer be safe.
If we were to reach out to someone, if we were to try and make a connection with another human...we would have to shatter our protective, sound-proof box and expose ourselves to the cold, harsh world.
And that is scary.
But it's at times like this, that we have to ask ourselves a single question...
What's worse?
Leaving our comfort zone....or being trapped in it?
"Writer."
The name fell from your lips like poison, annoyance and anger lacing your tone as you stared up at the man in front of you.
The black-haired male sent you a stern look as his gray eyes took in the sight of your restrained wrists and feet, your body sitting upright on the large bed.
"You haven't even been here a day and you're already being tied up?" He sighed heavily, snapping his fingers, causing the ropes to fall loosely from your hands and feet.
You rubbed your bruised wrists, making a mental note to punch Jimin in the face again for purposefully tying the ropes too tight on you.
"Must you always make a dramatic entrance?" Writer asked sarcastically as he sat beside you on the bed, grabbing your wrists and inspecting them closely.
You allowed him to coddle your hands, eyes staring him down curiously.
"What are you doing here?"
Writer froze his movements at your question, hands stilling and expression dropping.
He remained silent, gray eyes never moving to meet your blue ones.
"You're not supposed to interfere with the story..." You stated slowly. "And I didn't call for you...So why are you here?"
You watched as the man before you let out a heavy sigh, his gaze remaining on your hands as he held them in his lap.
You didn't like this.
Not one bit.
Writer never allowed himself to go into the stories...he claimed that his presence could cause everything to crumble down...that it could jeopardize the ending and mess the entire thing up..
He had been very adamant about following the rules...and never interfering...
The only time he had ever interfered was when you tried running away...and even then you had to call him for an hour before he even showed up....
He never helped you...He didn't help when you were about to be sacrificed to a dragon...He didn't help when you were almost enslaved to an evil god for all eternity....He didn't help...At all.
So the fact that he was here now...without even having to be called for...it put an uneasy feeling in your stomach..
"Y/n..."
Your heart dropped at his tone, fear instantly paralyzing you.
This wasn't good.
Your breath hitched as his eyes moved to meet yours.
"You have to marry Jungkook."
Your eyes widened at his words, stomach suddenly beginning to feel heavier inside of you.
This had to be some kind of joke...He had to be joking.
You couldn't marry Jungkook...
You didn't love him..
"What?" You breathed out.
Writer let out another sigh, his thumb rubbing soft circles into the soft skin of your wrist.
"You have to marry him, Y/n...."
You pulled your hands away from him, suddenly disgusted by his touch as you shook your head.
"Why?" Your voice cracked as you stared at the man before you. "Why do I have to marry him?"
The black-haired man ran a hand through his hair, gaze moving to the ground below.
"Because that's how this story ends."
You swallowed hard, swiftly standing to your feet and taking a few steps away from him, heart pounding in your chest as your mind raced with countless questions.
"By me marrying him?" You spat. "How does that change anything!? How in gods name does that make a difference?!"
You watched Writer as he rose to his feet, hands reaching out to you only for you to smack them away harshly.
You knew that you were probably being childish, but you honestly didn't care. This was your life he was screwing with and you had the right to know what the heck was going on and what he was planning.
Writer huffed, clearly becoming annoyed with your actions.
"It just does." He deadpanned, hoping that you would just accept his answer.
You shook your head.
"That's not enough this time, Writer." You stated bluntly.
Writer's eyes widened slightly at your cold tone, his eyebrows crashing together as you continued to speak.
"I can't just follow you blindly anymore." You said. "You have to give me an answer...A real answer.. no more riddles, no more hidden messages. This is my life....and I have a right to know why it's so important that I marry Jungkook. I haven't even been here one day."
The tall man bit his lip as he eyed you, clearly thinking about his next words carefully.
"You have to marry Jungkook....so that you can have an heir."
Frozen.
That's what were became as you stared at Writer, body suddenly being encompassed by an uncomfortable feeling of dread and disbelief. Surely you had heard him wrong...He was the only sane person that you had in this world and now he was acting just like the rest of the men here....
Why was everyone so dead set on you getting pregnant?
"An-An heir?" You repeated in shock. "You want me to have a child with Jungkook?"
Writer sighed, running a hand through his hair at your expression and overall reaction.
"Yes." He said bluntly, causing your stomach to churn.
You opened your mouth to speak.
You wanted to say something- anything...but you couldn't seem to find the right words to speak to him at this moment...You trusted Writer...sure, you had not always agreed with his methods, but you knew that he always had your best interests at heart...
But now...you weren't so sure anymore.
His fingers slowly brushed against yours, pulling you from your dazed stupor.
"I know that this story will take longer to complete...but it is by far the easiest one to complete."
You scoffed at his words, anger slowly beginning to over take any reasonable thought.
"Why are you telling me the ending?"
His eyebrows jumped at your question, demeanor quickly changing as your eyes locked with his.
"You never tell me the ending." You continued. "You can't tell me the ending. You said so yourself....so why is this story any different?"
You could tell that you had hit a nerve with your question.
Writer sent you a hard glare, clearly angered by you audacity.
"Because this one is special."
"Why?"
"Y/n.." His voice came out in a warning tone, but you didn't care.
"Why is it special?!" You roared, anger piquing. "Why is this story so important that I am being forced to marry a man I don't love and have a child with him?! I want an answer! I deserve a stupid answer, Writer! Answer me!"
"BECAUSE SOMETHING IS MISSING!"
Silence.
Silence fell over the room at his sudden outburst.
You had never seen him so angry...He had never raised his voice at you like that before...sure he had gotten angry and annoyed...but he had never screamed at you...never.
Writer growled angrily, pulling on his hair in annoyance.
"Something is missing from this world." He stated. "And I don't know what it is! Thing's aren't falling into place like they should be and I am panicking. "
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What does that have to do with anything?" You asked. "Why does that mean that I have to marry Jungkook?"
He sighed, trying to regain his composure.
"The story ends when a worthy king sits on the throne." He started slowly. "Jungkook is not worthy of the throne....He never was...he was never supposed to rule."
"So?"
His eyes snapped to you.
"So...since no one in this realm is worthy...." His gaze fell to your stomach. "We will just have to make someone who is worthy."
You swallowed hard, shaking your head as your hands moved to cover your stomach instinctively.
"N-No." You stuttered out. "I won't do it."
"You have to." He deadpanned.
"We can find another way-"
"There is no other way!"He barked. "If there were don't you think that I would have found one?!"
Your eyes fell to the floor, harsh reality suddenly settling on your shoulders...was this really the only way to end the story.
"I don't-" Your voice cracked as tears began to fill your eyes. "I don't want to do this."
Writer's eyes snapped up at your quiet voice, his body moving closer to yours.
"I know you don't want to.." He spoke in a quiet voice. "But it won't be that bad...You will only have to be here for a year at the most if you and Jungkook move quickly...then you can go onto the next world and-"
"You really are heartless." You stated suddenly, causing his eyes to widen. "You would ask me to marry a man I don't love, have a child and then just abandon it to live in a world without a mother?!"
His eyes hardened on you.
"You can always come back when you have finished-"
"I won't do it!" You yelled. "I would rather die!"
He suddenly gripped your upper arm harshly, gray eyes boring into your fiery blue ones.
"If you don't do as you are told then that is precisely what you will do! You will be stuck here forever and you will die!"
"I don't care! I'm not going to do it! I'll find another way!"
He scoffed, releasing your arm with a slight push.
"Why are you so stubborn?!" He asked. "Don't you want to be with the man you love?! Don't you want to be with Yoongi!?"
"You leave him out of this!"
His eyebrows raised in amusement as he took a step closer to you.
"Oh, I see." He let out an eerie chuckle. "You don't want to go back to The Four Kingdoms, do you? You've fallen in love with the Pharaoh too, haven't you?"
You sent him a hard glare.
"Shut up."
His chuckled, lowering his face to yours.
"I hope you remember that you can only choose one world in the end" He started. "So take my advice,"
He moved his head beside yours, whispering his next words in your ear,
"Stop falling in love."
