Chapter 34: Fear
"Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears."
-Les Brown
Jungkook's chest heaved with labored breaths as he ran forwards, eyes widened with fear and panic as he nervously glanced around the empty courtyard, gaze searching for your figure.
Taehyung followed closely behind him, watching as his younger sibling's body began to shake as he searched for you.
"She's not here." Jungkook stated, breathlessly, running his hands through his hair. "She's not here!"
Taehyung stepped forward, placing his hands on the younger's shoulders in an attempt to calm him down.
"Don't panic." He order sternly. "Panicking will only make things worse. We'll find her-"
"What if he finds her first?!" Jungkook snapped, pulling at his dirty blond locks. "He may have his human body, but he still has his powers. If he finds her, he'll-"
Taehyung's gaze darkened as he shook his brother slightly, pointing a finger at his face.
"You cannot think like that." He scolded. "We will find her and we will keep her safe. I promise."
Jungkook ran a hand over his face, nodding his head slowly as he squeezed his eyes shut.
"And what about Jimin?" He asked softly.
Jungkook watched as Taehyung's eyes fell, his expression becoming soft and sullen as he shook his head.
"You knew he was our brother?" Jungkook asked.
The orange-haired man sighed heavily.
"Yes." He stated. "His mother worked as a maid in the palace...father didn't want to embarrass himself by allowing anyone to know the Jimin was his son...So he didn't tell anyone...not even you."
"Why did he tell you?" Jungkook inquired. "Why you and not me?"
Taehyung shook his head, eyes scanning over the lily pond that rested in the middle of the stone courtyard.
"I found out on my own." He deadpanned. "I over heard one of the maids telling my mother about it.."
"Why didn't you ever tell me?" Jungkook asked, with big eyes. "He's my brother too...I deserved to know."
Taehyung's green eyes softened on his younger sibling.
"You were the heir to the throne, Jungkook." He stated. "Telling you would have put your life in danger. Daesung killed the nurse who delivered Jimin into the world...I cannot know for sure that he would not have done the same to you if you allowed it to slip."
The dirty blond male only nodded his head in response, a feeling of defeat washing over him.
"I wish I would have known sooner...maybe-maybe I could have prevented him from..."
His sentence trailed off as his eyes fell to the ground, lips not yet willing to speak of his brother's fate.
Taehyung frowned at the thought, his expression hardening in hatred towards his father.
He did not understand how someone could be so cruel as to force their own flesh and blood to give up their life, while he walked away with nothing more than a sideways glance to his slowly fading son.
The thought of Jimin slowly beginning to crumble from the inside out was enough to make Taehyung's blood boil and his heart drop.
"We'll never see him again," Taehyung's eyes shot up as Jungkook spoke. "Will we?"
The orange-haired man opened his mouth to speak, but a new voice cut him off.
"Hey peach!"
Taehyung's brows furrowed as a soft whisper filled his ears, eyes glancing around the courtyard in confusion as he searched for the voice.
Jungkook's ears perked up as well, confusion etching over his features.
"What was-"
"Over here, carrot top!"
Taehyung tilted his head in confusion as the sight of his long-dead uncle came into view.
Seokjin's damp, blond hair clung to his face, his brown eyes wide as he glanced around the courtyard in a panicked state, hands hastily waving the two men over.
Jungkook was the first one to move.
He ran over to his uncle as quickly as his legs could carry him, eyes wide.
"Where is she?" He asked, hands gripped Jin's shoulders. "Is she alright? D-Did he hurt her?"
Jin's face was set and stern as he stared at his young nephew, hands shaking slightly.
"Both of you need to follow me." He deadpanned. "Now."
Taehyung frowned.
"Where's Y/n?" He inquired.
Seokjin glanced at the orange-haired boy.
"Somewhere safe." He stated. "I'll take you to her."

"Jimin, I need you to calm down."
Your voice was soft and comforting as you stared at the terrified man in front of you.
Jimin's, once beautiful, brown iris' now replaced with a cold shade of blue were filled with tears of fear and confusion. His hands gripped his white hair frantically as his mind struggled to process everything that was happening to him.
You felt sorry for him.
He had lost everything in only a few moments.
And he didn't even know what was going on.
You were lucky that you even managed to get him underground. He was a mess, asking questions and crying out in confusion and pain. Your heart ached to explain everything to him, but you knew that you had to get him to safety first..
And so you did.
You took Jimin beneath the lily pond, into the room where Jin's body had been kept all of those years. It was the only place in the palace that Daesung didn't know about and you were sure that there would be enough room to fit everyone that you intended on saving.
A few minutes ago, Jin went back above ground, telling you that he was going to find Hoseok and the others and bring them to safety as well....Which meant you were all alone with a frantic Jimin.
"What's happening to me!?" Jimin sobbed loudly, pulling on his white hair. "No one can see me! I can't touch anything! I can't feel anything!"
You squeezed your eyes shut at the sound of his voice, hating the broken tone.
"Jimin-"
"I-I don't want to be like this!" He cried, glancing at you. "I-I want to go back! I want to be human again!"
You stared at him for a few moments, scanning over his expression with saddened eyes.
"I'm sorry." You breathed.
His eyes widened slightly as he sniffed, hands shaking violently.
"Y-You're the Oracle.." He stated shakily. "You-You an change me back! You can fix me!"
You shook your head slowly.
"I don't think I can," You said. "You aren't a normal spirit...You willingly released him...You made a deal to be stuck like this..."
"I didn't know!" He cried desperately. "H-He was going to kill the Emperor! I-I thought it was just some trick! A sick joke!"
You bit your lip as Jimin's body slowly sunk to the floor, his knees giving out.
You glanced away from him, trying your best not to allow your emotions to override the reality of the situation.
"I'm sorry." You repeated.
Jimin hugged his knees close to his chest, the action reminding you of a child.
"I'm- I'm so cold." He sobbed silently. "I can't feel anything like this. I can't- Why can't I feel anything?"
You hesitantly lowered yourself to his level, your mind racing as you thought of anyway to soothe the wailing spirit.
Your hand slowly shot out towards his, your warm flesh gently brushing against his cold skin.
The small contact caused Jimin's eyes to jump to yours, the blue iris' widening in slight shock.
"How-" He sniffed. "How did you-"
"You're scared." You interrupted. "Everything that is happening right now is overwhelming you to the point where you feel like you're suffocating, to the point where it physically hurts you to think about your situation. Your terrified that nothing will ever change for you and that you'll be stuck in this same place-in this same position for the rest of your life. Miserable and all alone."
The white haired spirit slowly nodded, his eyes filled with tears as he glanced away from you.
"And maybe that's a good thing," You breathed out softly, hand gently cupping his face. "Maybe it's okay to be afraid every once in a while. You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. To do the thing you think you cannot do."
Jimin's blue eyes bore into yours as you continued to speak, his heart pounding within his chest at the warmth of your fingertips on his skin.
"Fear turns into courage." You whispered. "And anxiety turns into bravery."
The weeping spirit couldn't stop his bottom lip from trembling at your words.
"I-I want to hold you," He confessed softly, eyes scanning over your features. "Can I?"
Your heart swelled up with sympathy for the sad man before you, gaze watching as he hesitantly moved closer.
You nodded your head.
Without another word, Jimin pulled your into his arms, wrapping you up into a tight embrace as he buried his face into the crook of your neck, warm tears staining the silk of your robes.
You smiled softly to yourself, running your hands through his soft, white locks as he cried on you.
You wished that you could tell him everything was going to be alright. You wished you could tell him that it wouldn't be this way forever.
But you knew better.
You knew things weren't going to be getting better anytime soon...
Because this was only the calm before the storm.
