Chapter 29: Timing

"Their love was strong, but timing was wrong...and love decided that they didn't belong."

                                                                                                                                                -Anonymous

Your eyes were wide with terror as you ran through the walls of the ancient palace, your legs carrying you as fast as they possibly as you searched every single room you came across.

You had to find him.

You had to find Jungkook.

After your realization, you wasted no time in trying to find the young Emperor, your heart racing as you prepared yourself for the worst. You had been searching the palace grounds for hours...the sun had already set and the moon had taken its place in the sky.

But none of that mattered. You were going to find Jungkook.

You never should have left him alone.

You knew that Daesung was after him. You new that he was in danger, but you didn't even take that into consideration..You let your curiosity get in the way of your common sense...You should have stayed with him..or at least brought him into the tunnels with you.

This was not your day.

First, you had found out that your best friend was trying to kill you, and then you were almost raped by a pervy ghost and then you find out Jin is actually alive and you almost lose him and then to top it all off, after it seems like everything is finally turning around, you find out that the man you loved didn't even remember who you were...

Not your day at all.

A curse escaped your lips as you slammed your fist into the doorpost of your bedroom.

He wasn't there.

You had no idea where he was. You had no clue what had happened to him or when Daesung had managed to possess Jungkook again, but you knew one thing...You were in trouble.

All of you were in trouble.

You had searched the entire palace, trying desperately to find out where he had gone to, but you couldn't find anything..nothing that could help you pinpoint his location.

Daesung had probably fled from the palace at his first chance, regaining his power before Jin could cast him out agai-

Wait.

You let out a heavy sigh, running a hand through your hair.

Jin wasn't a spirit anymore...So how were you supposed to get Daesung out of Jungkook's body?

"Y/n."

Your eyes shot up at the familiar voice that filled your ears.

Hoseok stood beside you, a stressful expression on his face as he took in your disheveled state of panic.

"Did you find him?" You asked.

The former warrior shook his head slowly, giving you a sympathetic look.

"No." He said. "I'm sorry."

You nodded your head in understanding, biting your lip as you pushed past him.

"We just have to keep looking."

Hoseok's firm grasp on your forearm stopped your movements instantly, your gaze moving to his, brows furrowing in confusion.

"What are you doing?" You asked with a raised brow.

You watched as the black-haired man sighed deeply, his golden-brown eyes searching your blue orbs.

"Maybe you should take a break." He suggested softly.

Your eyes widened slightly at his suggestion, your head shaking instantly in disagreement.

"N-No." You stuttered. "We can't stop searching. He-He's in trouble. Jungkook is in trouble!"

Hoseok nodded his head in understanding, his hand reaching for yours.

"I know." He stated softly. "But, you've had a long couple of days, you didn't even sleep last night."

You moved your body away from him, a look of betrayal covering your features.

He was asking you to stop searching? He was telling you to rest? When Jungkook was in danger?

Absolutely not.

"I'm not going to stop looking for him." You said. "He needs our help."

The former warrior stared at you with sad eyes.

"Jungkook has been dealing with his father for two years," He began. "His father isn't going to hurt the only vessel he has...and besides, as long as Daesung doesn't have you, then he can't complete his plan..."

You furrowed your eyebrows, taking a step back, a look of awe covering your features.

"So what?" You asked sarcastically. "You want me to just leave him?"

Hoseok shook his head, ruffling his hair in a stressful manner.

"No." He said. "I just-"

You watched as he took a deep breath, composing himself for a few moments before continuing.

"It's almost two in the morning, Y/n."  Hoseok stated. "You haven't slept in twenty-four hours. I haven't even seen you eat anything today..."

"And?" You spat, crossing your arms. "How can I eat when I know-"

"Stop that!"

You flinched backwards at Hoseok's outburst, your eyes widening as you swallowed hard.

Hoseok moved towards you, his hands gripping your shoulders as his eyes bore into yours.

"Look at yourself" He said. "Your face is pale, your clothes are still wet from the rain-god-you're shaking, Y/n!"

You tried to pull yourself away from him, but his grip never lessened on you.

His concerned gaze searched over your face, watching as your features contorted in anger and frustration as you tried to get away from him.

You couldn't bring yourself to look at him...not after everything he had said. You knew that he was right...you were tired. You were hungry..but you couldn't stop searching for Jungkook...You needed to find him and bring him back to safety..

"I'm fine!" You argued. "I don't need any rest-"

"You're exhausted!" Hoseok stated, pulling you closer to him. "How do you plan to defeat Daesung in this condition!? You're barely able to stand!"

You could feel tears of frustration stinging the corner of your eyes as you tried to shove him away from you.

"I can do it!" You announced. "I have to do it!"

Hoseok shook his head.

"You're killing yourself!"

"I don't care!" You cried. "Anything is better than being around him! I can't go back to him!"

Hoseok's eyebrows furrowed at your words.

"Who?" He asked. "Who are you talking about?!"

"Jin!"

The black-haired man froze at your words, his heart clenching inside of his chest at the mention of the former spirit.

He watched as you aggressively wiped tears from your cheeks, only for more to take their place.

You sniffed, a heavy weight suddenly taking over your body as all of your emotions began to overcome you. God, you felt like such a crybaby. All you had done lately is cry. It was like you didn't have the capability to do anything other than feel sad...but after the day you had....you didn't really care.

"I thought I could do it." You sobbed silently, moving your blue eyes to Hoseok's. "I thought I could pretend like I was okay with everything..."

Hoseok's eyes softened on your form.

"I thought that as long as he was alive again, then I could be alright. I could be happy because he was happy.." You took a step back, shaking your head. "But I can't."

Your voice cracked as you clenched your fists, doing your best to contain yourself.

"H-He doesn't know me." You continued. "And knowing that...after everything we've been through...knowing that hurts the most. Knowing that he doesn't remember the laughs and the tears..knowing that he can't hold me the way he used to...knowing that he can't play with my hair while he hugs me...knowing that he doesn't-that he doesn't love me...God, it makes me want to scream."

Hoseok swallowed hard as your confession.

"Y/n..." He breathed.

He couldn't find anything to say to you, his words catching in his throat.

"Every time I see him," You sniffed. "It hurts me....I can't go back to him....I-I just can't pretend like I'm okay."

The black-haired man didn't know when his body started moving, but he didn't stop himself when he realized what he was going to do.

He knew what you were feeling.

He knew that you were feeling alone...unloved.

He had felt that before too, he had felt that most of his life and he knew what you were going through and he was determined to take away your pain, even if only for a brief moment.

Your eyes widened slightly as his hands gripped your face.

"Hoseo-"

Your words were cut off as his lips slammed onto yours, his mouth meeting yours in a passionate kiss.

You let out a squeak of surprise, your body stumbling back in shock as he wrapped an arm around your waist to secure you and keep you from falling backwards.

Hoseok knew that his timing wasn't ideal, or even appropriate, but he couldn't stop himself from kissing you with all of the feelings he had kept hidden, his hands never leaving your body as a single tear rolled down his cheek.

He could tell by the way that you talked about Jin...He knew that you loved the former spirit...but he didn't care in that moment...you were the only thing on his mind.

You managed to finally collect your thoughts, pushing him away from you.

Hoseok's eyes softened as you stepped backwards.

"Y/n, I lo-"

"N-No." You stuttered out nervously, your hands raising in front of you. "D-Don't say it. Don't say that."

He frowned, taking a step towards you.

"Why not?" He asked. "Why can't I tell you how I feel?"

"Because," You started. "I can't think about this right now. I can't-I can't deal with it."

Hoseok's hands shot out to grab yours in a swift motion.

"Well, you're going to have to." He stated. "Because I love-"

"There you are!"

Hoseok's words were cut off by Namjoon's deep voice from behind the two of you.

The physician's eyebrows furrowed as Hoseok sent him a hard glare. Jin followed behind him, confusion etching his features as a pang of anger shot through his chest at the sigh of your hands in Hoseok's and your bodies so close together.

"W-We were looking for you two." Namjoon stated. "I had the servants cook us a meal."

You nodded your head, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear.

"Great." You popped nervously. "Let's go then."

You sent Hoseok one last glance before pushing your way past the two men in front of you, walking towards the dining hall.

Jin's eyes never left your form as you walked away, your hand wiping your tear-stained cheeks.

He placed his hand over his chest, the feeling of anger only growing stronger as Hoseok began to speak.

"Great timing, Namjoon." He stated sarcastically before following after you.

Namjoon frowned in confusion at Hoseok's annoyed tone, his hazel eyes moving to Jin.

"What did I do?"

A/N,

Welp...that was an adventure....

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW.

Y/n is NOT a crybaby...she has seriously had a tough time in this book...and I'm sorry if you think she's annoying, but she's a human too...and frankly, I would have just curled into a ball and died at this point...

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I love you.

I adore you.

I purple you.

I'm out.

-Max
