Chapter 23: Surviving
"I am through surviving. It's time for me to live."
-Anonymous
Alive.
A word used to describe something that is in a state of living.
Living.
Most people consider living to be the same as surviving...they believe that as long as you are breathing- as long as you are able to wake up every day...then you are, indeed, living.
But, in reality...There is a large difference between the two.
Surviving is being able to make it through the day without having a breakdown. Surviving is being in a constant state of worry and numbness. Reliving the same cycle day after day and hoping that something will change.
Living is being happy. Being able to laugh without fearing what is going to come. Living is waking up everyday with a sense of freedom and liberty. It was beautiful to think about.
Surviving is merely being able to walk.
While living....is being able to fly.
You were once able to live...but now...You were simply surviving.
You body shivered as the cold rain poured down on you from the gray sky above.
The freezing liquid mixed with your hot tears that slid down your cheeks, but you didn't even bother to wipe it away...
You could hear Hoseok's voice calling out to you from behind, but you didn't respond...You couldn't bring yourself to talk to him...not after what he had just told you- not after what just happened.
You slowly moved your hand up to touch your cheek. You could still feel the cold air that hit your face when Jin tried to touch you.
You honestly didn't know that you could do whatever it is that you did...but you weren't going to complain..the last thing you wanted was for him to have any sort of contact with you...
His tear-filled eyes flashed through your mind, causing your stomach to churn and your chest to tighten uncomfortably.
You wished that you were a better person..Maybe then, you would be able to see his side of the story and forgive him...but you weren't a better person..You were human and you had emotions too...
Even if his actions were somehow noble, you couldn't find it within yourself to trust him anymore...He was a liar..and he betrayed you.
After everything the two of you had been through-all the memories the two of you had made...
Clearly, they meant nothing to him.
"Oracle?"
Your blue eyes snapped up to stare at the man that had called out to you.
Jimin stood underneath the awning of the palace, his brows furrowed in confusion as he stared at you standing in the pouring rain.
He wasn't wearing the usual red robes of the Emperor, instead, he wore an over-sized white shirt and black trousers. His red hair was messy and tousled, as if he had been running his hands through it.
You couldn't stop the quiet cry that left your lips as you stared at him.
Looking at him brought back so many emotions.
You knew that he wasn't the Jimin you had grown accustomed to. You knew that he wasn't either version of the sweet man you once knew...but looking at him made you want to do nothing more than run to him and embrace him...You wanted to hear him say that everything would be okay...as he had done in the previous worlds.
Knowing that you couldn't do that...It only made you feel worse.
"Are you alright?" He yelled over the loud sound of the rain. "Why are you standing in the rain?"
You missed the concern that laced his voice as he watched you slowly moved your gaze to the heavens above, your eyes closing as the cool rain trickled down your face.
"Oracle!" He shouted, cupping his hands over his mouth. "Come out of the rain! You'll get sick!"
You ignored his words, swallowing hard as you tried to contain yourself.
The sound of footsteps splashing against water filled your ears.
You slowly opened your eyes, moving them over to whomever was beside you.
Hoseok gave you a sad look, his hands slowly moving to rest on your shoulders.
His black hair stuck to his forehead due to the heavy rainfall, His clothing was soaked through completely, just like yours, but neither of you seemed to pay a second thought to the weather conditions.
"I'm sorry," Hoseok breathed.
You let out a sad laugh, shaking your head.
"Don't apologize. You only told me what I needed to know."
The former warrior shook his head slowly, his right hand moving to cup your cheek gently.
"I'm not sorry that I told you." He began. "I'm sorry that he hurt you."
Your bottom lip trembled, your own hand moving to rest over his.
"Me too."
"You shouldn't stand in the rain." He whispered to you.
Your lips twitched upward for a brief moment.
"But, you're standing in the rain." You reasoned.
Hoseok chuckled sadly, resting his forehead against your, furrowing his brows as he struggled to contain his own emotions.
"I like being in the rain," He breathed. "I find peace in the rain."
You breathed in a shaky breath, eyes closed.
"So do I." You stated truthfully. "So do I."
Jimin watched the scene unfold from beneath the awning of the palace, his heart plummeting down as the black-haired man held you so familiarly in the middle of the rain storm, your bodies brushing against each other in the most intimate of ways.
Something in him made him feel weak and saddened all of a sudden, like he had lost some sort of battle.
He felt defeated and hurt...
And he had no idea why.
"Y/n..." Your name poured from his lips in a soft whisper, only he could hear.
He swallowed hard, not being able to pull his gaze away from the two of you in the rain.
He clenched his hands at his sides, finally tearing his eyes away from both of you before turning on his heel and walking back inside the warmth of the palace.
He slid the door closed slowly
Giving your form one last longing look.

"I've already told you!" Jungkook's voice roared through his large bed chamber. "I won't do it!"
His eyes were hard and stern as he glared at the dark-haired ghost before him.
His father crossed his arms over his chest angrily.
"You ungrateful brat!" He yelled. "You're going to ruin everything I've worked so hard for!"
"I don't care!" He screamed. "I am done being your little puppet!"
Daesung furrowed his brows, standing to his feet and approaching his son, his jaw clenching.
"You know as well as I do, what's at stake here," He began slowly, trying to keep his composure. "If she doesn't bring forth an heir-"
"Then China will be just fine." The young royal interrupted. "Whether or not The Jeon line lives on, China will be placed in the hands of a great ruler."
"The people will demand an heir when the two of you are wed!" Daesung reasoned with his son.
Jungkook's tongue poked the inside of his cheek in annoyance before he continued.
"I'm not going to force her to marry me, father." He deadpanned.
His father's eyes went wide at that, brows furrowing even further.
"You-You what?" He breathed out.
Jungkook swallowed.
"She-She should be able to choose her own path..." He moved his eyes to the floor. "Even if that path takes her somewhere else."
"You fool!" Daesung spat. "She is the Oracle! Her destiny is to wed the Emperor-to wed you! It has been prophesied for hundred of years!"
The young king shook his head.
"She should be happy."
"Her happiness means nothing-"
"Her happiness means everything!" Jungkook growled.
Daesung stared at his son with widened eyes, his jaw hanging loosely.
"She-She is more than what you believe her to be, father. She's smart, she's beautiful..but, god, she's been hurt."
Daesung sat speechlessly as Jungkook continued, running a hand through his hair.
"And I can tell," He stated. "I can tell that she's hurting..but she won't show it..Her heart is heavy, yet she holds her own. Broken, she found strength within the pain. I have never seen her cry, but I think her smile hides the tears...She is everything, treated like nothing, left to feel nothing...but she's surviving...She's always surviving."
A small smile made it's way to Jungkook's features as he spoke about you.
"She's completely unexplainable. You think she's the good girl, but once you get to know her, you realize she's everything. She's crazy, she's funny, she's honest and you never know what she'll do next."
A dark chuckle sounded from the man in front of him, an awestruck smile on his face as he slowly began to clap his hands.
The young Emperor's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Congratulations, son." Daesung sang mockingly. "You've managed to fall in love with the Oracle."
Jungkook's eyes widened instantly, his heart dropping at the evil smile his father wore.
"You have proven yourself useless to me." Daesung spat cruelly. "Now, I shall simply have to do everything myself."
Jungkook took a step backwards.
"What-What do you mean?"
Daesung stepped forward.
"I have tried being nice," He began. "I gave you the chance to earn your freedom, but you have lost your opportunity."
The young king shook his head fervently, hands beginning to shake as he stumbled backwards.
"N-No! I don't want this! I don't want to do this anymore."
His father frowned.
"Don't struggle."
The spirit lunged forwards in a swift movement, entering Jungkook's body.
Jungkook let out a scream of terror, gripping his hair and shaking his head, trying his best to get rid of the evil ghost that was currently taking control over him.
"No, no, no, no!" He chanted. " Stop it! Stop, Please!"
After a few moments of resistance, a smirk pulled across the young emperors face, his posture straightening instantly.
He scoffed, hands moving to wipe the tears that had fallen down his cheeks only a few seconds before.
"You're weak." He spat, tapping his temple. "But now I've got you trapped away."
He smiled evilly, adjusting his robes.
"Now, it's time to find the Oracle."
