Chapter 15: Beats

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby."

                       -Langston Hughes

"What the-"

You were utterly speechless as you gawked at the sight before you, your blue eyes wide with confusion and shock as they drifted over the unrealistic sight before you.

You hesitantly took a step forward into your bedroom, not bothering to close the sliding door behind you.

You had initially planned on returning to your room and packing some of your things.

Namjoon had said that he would find you another room to stay in. He knew that you didn't exactly feel...comfortable being in this room, especially after what happened. Considering the fact that sleeping in this room made you easily accessible to Jungkook, you whole-heartedly agreed to find somewhere else to stay....somewhere far away from the perverted Emperor.

You had initially planned on returning to your room and packing some of your things....

But the sight that awaited you behind the sliding door had you standing frozen in your place.

Roses.

Your entire bedroom was filled to the brim with roses of every color.

You were surrounded by the flowers. They were everywhere, their sweet scent instantly hitting your nostrils as you slowly took another step forward.

You didn't even think it was possible to pick so many roses...but here you were; Surrounded by numerous bouquets of the multicolored flowers...Some red and some white.

You could barely even see the wooden floor beneath you or the bed in front of you.

Whoever was responsible for this sure went all out. You couldn't even take a step without accidentally crushing one of the helpless plants.

"How in the world-"

You huffed out in annoyance as you tried to maneuver around the flowers, trying your best not to break or crush them as you slowly made you way to your dresser.

"I see you've received my gift."

Your body halted it's movements as a familiar voice floated to your ears, eyes hardening instantly as you turned to face your uninvited guest.

"Jungkook." You growled.

His brows jumped at your clearly unhappy tone of voice.

"Y/n."

You didn't move from your spot, feet planting themselves firmly on the floor as you readied yourself for any kind of stunt he may try to pull as you rubbed your healing wrist subconsciously.

Jungkook's brown eyes darted down to your injury, eyes softening slightly as he took a step forward, hand outstretched to touch you.

You stepped back, all caution for the flowers completely fading away, replaced by the need to protect yourself.

The young royal quickly moved his gaze back to yours, expression never changing as he slowly lowered his hand to his side.

"You're still angry with me." He sighed out.

You rolled your eyes.

This guy.

"Duh." You spat. "You broke my wrist, douchebag!"

His brows furrowed at your odd choice of words, but he decided to ignore your confusing statement, his mind telling him that it was probably an insult.....

He ran a hand through his hair, eyeing your bandaged hand.

"I know." He breathed. "And I am sorry. I am truly, sincerely sorry."

You crossed your arms, glare never faltering as you held your chin high.

"That's not enough." You stated. "You have been treating me like a possession from the second I got here. You've threatened me, you tried to rape me and you broke my wrist. You seriously thought that an apology would be enough?"

He shook his head, eyes falling to the ground as he hung his head in shame.

"No." He sighed. "That's why I arranged this gift for you."

He motioned around to the roses that surrounded you.

Your eyebrows jumped.

He did this?

"You did this...as an apology?" You inquired.

He nodded slowly, brown eyes hesitantly meeting your blue ones.

"Yes."

You scoffed, resting your good hand on your hip.

"Seriously?" You asked, dumbfounded. "You thought that you could just fill my room up with flowers and then I would forgive you for all the things you've done to me? You thought it would be that easy?"

He cleared his throat nervously.

This wasn't going according to his plan.

"W-Well I-"He huffed. "I just want us to be friends. I want us to put the past behind us and move towards the future."

You shook your head, approaching him.

"Listen, Jeon." You started. " You and I aren't friends. We aren't even enemies. We do not exist to one another, got it? You stay away from me and I will stay away from you. I want absolutely nothing to do with whatever sick game you're trying to play with me. Whatever plan you're devising, I want no part in it....So back off and leave me alone....We both saw what happened last time you came near me....Next time, I won't be so merciful."

You watched as his eyes hardened, the muscles of his jaw tightening as he poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, trying his best to remain as calm as he possibly could.

Think of the bet. Think of the bet.

"I am sorry you feel that way." He ground out, trying his best to sound genuine. "I can only hope that one day I may finally be in your good graces."

You snorted at that.

"That's never going to happen, Jeon." You deadpanned. "Not in a million years."

He inhaled deeply through his nostrils, eyes squeezing shut as you pushed past him, storming out of the room angrily.

His chest heaved in anger and annoyance.

This was going to be harder than he thought.

"You really should go."

Yoongi's voice was heavy and annoyed as he rubbed his temples, trying to remain calm and not kill the red-headed man that sat in front of him.

Jimin chuckled, stuffing his face with more of the food that was set on the table before him.

Food that Yoongi had prepared for you.

Originally, Jimin had stopped by to only say hello and maybe talk to Yoongi for a while, considering that Jimin didn't have too many friends around the palace, Yoongi consented, ignorantly thinking that he would only be there for a few minutes.

It had been almost an hour.

Now the younger soldier was stuffing his face with food that wasn't meant for him.

Yoongi had gone through so much trouble to make this evening special. He changed out of his warrior robes into nicer ones that were made of silk, bought with some money he had managed to save up. He cleaned up around his small living space and prepared a delicious meal, all the while managing to keep Grace content and occupied.

But Jimin was ruining everything.

And you were going to be there any minute.

"Why are you in such a rush to get me out?" Jimin asked with a mouthful of apples.

Yoongi sighed, running a hand through his blond hair.

"Because I have company coming over and you are currently eating the meal I prepared for her."

Jimin's eyebrows shot up, a mischievous smile making it's way onto his face.

"Her?" He repeated. "You're having a woman over?"

Yoongi's eyes widened, a deep blush creeping onto his cheeks as he toyed with the sleeves of his robes, suddenly nervous.

"Y-yes, but it isn't what you think it is." He stuttered out.

Jimin smiled at the elders reaction.

"Are you sure?" He inquired. "Because, it looks to me as though you favor her...especially since you never invite women into your home....Not since you adopted young Grace."

The blond-haired man swallowed hard, opening his mouth to speak, only to have his words cut off by a soft knocking at the door.

His eyes widened.

Jimin's eyebrows jumped in mischief.

"She's here!" Yoongi announced, turning to face Jimin. "You have to leave right now!"

A chuckle escaped the younger's lips.

"You sure you don't want me to stay? I could always-"

"Out."

Jimin nodded, making his way towards the sliding door, opening it with a large smile on his face.

"Don't mind me," He started, not even looking up. "I'm just leaving-"

"Jimin?"

His eyes widened at your soft voice, brown eyes shifting as they scanned over your face.

"You?"

You ran a hand down your face, sighing out.

"Great." You mumbled sarcastically.

"You're the girl that Yoongi is seeing tonight?" He asked, with a bewildered look.

Yoongi awkwardly cleared his throat from behind the younger male, lightly pushing him out of the way, sending you a small smile.

"Please do not mind him," He said softly. "Jimin was just leaving."

His tone was one of warning as he nudged the redhead farther out of the door, pushing him outside.

Jimin's eyes were wide with shock.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were having dinner with-with her?!" He asked.

Yoongi sent him a stern look.

"It isn't any of your business who I have dinner with." He popped.

Jimin's expression darkened as he leaned closer, whispering to his superior.

"If the Emperor were to find out that you were having dinner with his betrothed, your life would be in danger, as well as Grace's."

Yoongi frowned.

"I already told you," He started. "It's nothing like that....I just want to thank her for helping me out with Grace this morning.."

"But-"

"Go home, Jimin."

"Yoongi, I-"

"He's right, Yoongi."

Your voice interrupted the hushed tones of their conversation, blue eyes filled with worry as you looked at the blond man before you.

"If Jungkook found out, we would all be in trouble...including Grace."

Yoongi's eyes softened as they scanned over your face sadly.

"But-But I...." His words trailed off as he simply nodded his head, realizing that you both had a very good point.

Jimin sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair.

In all honesty, he was actually quite surprised that you had just agreed with him, especially after the way he had treated you before hand....maybe you weren't as bad as he had originally thought.

"I could stay." He stated, catching both of your attention. "No one could say it i inappropriate if I am here....besides....I'm hungry anyway. Wouldn't want all of Yoongi's hard work on the food go to waste."

A small smile pulled on your lips at his words, eyes switching over to Yoongi, who nodded.

"I would appreciate that, Jimin." He stated.

The redhead only nodded, waving him off.

"I'm only staying for the food." He lied, soft smile playing on his lips as he slowly looked over at you.

His breath caught in his throat as you offered him a small smile, blue eyes sparkling under the light of the setting sun.

He tried not think about the way you smiled so kindly at him.

He tried not to think about the way your skin felt against his as you grabbed his hand, playfully pulling him inside the home.

He tried not to think about the way his heart skipped a beat.
