Chapter 19

JEFF POV

"Come on BEN! Let's go!" I yelled, pulling (Y/N) up and holding her bridal style.

Her wolf looked completely vicious, but awesome at the same time.

She had silver flaming eyes, burning fiercely just like in my vision. Her pelt was twinkling brightly like stars in a night sky. Not to mention she was giant! Much bigger than her wolf was before.

I didn't know what had happened to make her wolf appearance change so dramatically, but I didn't have time to overthink it. The men were coming back to their senses and rushing toward us.

BEN was already sprinting to the exit, me at his tail. The men's footsteps were rapidly approaching. I busted through the glass doors, slipping up slightly. Shards tore through my skin, but determination kept me from falling as we bolted across the street.

Cars slammed to a halt, honking their horns angrily and flicking me off through the windows. I hopped over someone's car, holding (Y/N)'s limp form close to my chest.

I could hear sirens approaching the building, while some police cars even tried chasing BEN and I.

I sped up, meeting BEN stride by stride. He was panting, sweat drenching his forehead. I knew he wasn't much of a runner.

"Keep running!" I hollered, coughing a little as I stumbled. He didn't respond, he was too focused on not tripping up.

We shot past a house and finally dove for the cover of the woods.

"They're still coming for us, hide!" I whisper yelled as we slowed to a stop. He nodded, his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.

"Where?" he breathed, looking around. My eyes darted around, desperately searching for cover. Their footsteps were approaching, their sirens getting louder.

I dove under a thorn bush, grunting and wincing from the slight pain. I shuffled deeper into the foliage, hoping the shadows and the dark green would hide our blood soaked clothing.

BEN squeezed in beside me, causing the bushes to sway. I growled quietly, signaling to him to freeze.

He inched forward more carefully when he saw the signal, and I glared at him. But thankfully the breeze was on our side and made it seem like it was just the wind that caused the bushes to stir.

I held my breath as the men's footsteps approached us.

"This is ridiculous! We're never gonna find them without the dogs." a man exclaimed, his voice gruff and irritated.

"Yeah well they're needed for other things. Besides, they can't be that hard to find. They got a couple screws loose, they can't be that smart." another snorted. I could hear them shoving past leaves and little by little getting closer to us.

(Y/N) stirred slightly, making me flinch. I hated this. Her contact was the last thing I wanted.

I could hear them getting even closer. So close, in fact, I could hear their breathing. I shuddered. We were trapped. There was only one last thing we could do.

"BEN, listen. When I say 'go', shoot your fire thing or whatever and run north as fast as you can. Got it?" I whispered as quietly as possible, leaning over to BEN's pointy ear.

"Are you crazy?" he whispered back, looking at me like I had just beat him in a video game.

"Just do it!" I hissed. The leaves and thorns in front of us were moved aside, exposing us to the 5-6 men.

"GO!" I yelled, kicking the man in front of us where the sun doesn't shine. He grunted and fell to his knees, "THERE THEY ARE!" he alerted them, his voice strained.

BEN leaped up, blasting his fire in the men's faces without hesitation as they turned to look at us.

"WHAT THE F**K!" one screamed, shielding his eyes. They scrambled backward, shocked. I turned north and fled deeper into the woods, adjusting my grip on (Y/N).

BEN was right behind me, his breathing heavy once more.

We ran and we ran, twisting and turning, jumping and diving until BEN collapsed onto his knees and said he couldn't run anymore.

I gasped, sucking in as much air as possible. My lungs burned and my arms ached. I dropped (Y/N) whom somehow stayed unconscious through the ENTIRE thing.

I growled, watching as her eyes slowly peeled open. She reached up and touched her head, wincing.

"What.. happened?" she rasped, sitting up and caressing her head gingerly.

"You-we-you passed out and.. we were chased all the way into the woods." BEN explained, coughing a little.

She began to gather her thoughts, looking around and standing up as she rubbed her head.

"I thought you left me." she stated quietly, her voice hinted with anger.

"Whoever falls behind stays behind. You're lucky I even came back." I replied, folding my arms. She looked up, her eyes full of fury. I was almost shocked.

"You're a f**king *sshole, you know that? I thought I was going to die there. I saved your f**king life and here you are, acting like I'm so lucky that you helped me even though you owed me one anyway!" she hissed, getting right up in my face.

I was taken aback at her sudden change of attitude. I snapped out of my surprise and without even thinking I lashed out, about to slice her with my knife.
