Chapter 14
"We're here!" my mom said excitedly, clapping her hands together with a smile, "This is where you'll be staying. You should be proud, your own stepfather owns it!"
I didn't respond, I just stared into the distance as an empty pit yawned in my stomach.
The car door opened, and a couple other black cars pulled up. I wanted to struggle and yank on the restraints, but I just didn't.
It was useless, a waste of energy.
"I want her taken to the testing rooms please." James instructed. The men that exited the black cars grabbed the chains and dragged me along with them, nodding respectfully to James.
I didn't fight back, just continued to walk forward even though my legs felt numb.
They pushed the doors open to the tall grey building, shoving me inside and pulling me down the halls.
I stumbled slightly, my anger rising little by little. I looked over to my right, where a man sat in a cell, resting his head on the clear wall that separated him from us.
When he spotted us he immediately perked up, slamming his fists on the clear wall repeatedly. His eyes were dull and lifeless, as if he didn't even know what he was doing.
I shivered as we passed a women with an 'X' sliced across both of her eyes. She laughed when she saw us, a deep and bone-chilling chuckle.
I stopped looking after that. I just kept my head down and let the men lead me.
Finally when we got to the end of a hallway they opened a door that had a sign saying, "Testing Room" hanging above it.
They pointed to a metal table and told me to lie down, but I refused and began backing up.
In the other room beside mine I heard a girl screaming in agony, pleading with someone to stop.
"Get the f**k off me!" I hissed, yanking on my chains as they tried to put me down.
They overcame me easily, seeming unamused as they dragged me to the table and forced me down by pressing my shoulders to the metal and holding my shins down.
"*ssholes!" I yelled, thrashing around angrily. I wanted to shift so badly. I begged my wolf spirit to be released but it wouldn't respond.
"This would be a lot easier if you calmed down." James' deep voice growled from the other side of the room.
I cried out as I felt a needle pierce my neck. My body slowly went numb starting from my legs, horror rushing through my veins.
He nodded to the men and they left, leaving me alone with James.
"What did you do to me?" I shouted, trying to wiggle my fingers.
"Don't worry darling, it's temporary. Now, I'm just going to ask some simple questions. Answer or there will be severe consequences. Also, don't think that I won't know if you are lying." he explained, shuffling over to the cabinets and pulling out some needles.
"What are you doing?" I growled, wishing this was all just a nightmare and that I would wake up in the corner of Jeff's room.
He didn't respond, he just rested them beside me and placed his hands on my hips. My eyes widened as I immediately thought the worse, but thankfully all he did was sit me up.
He then pulled something down from the ceiling. Something cold and hard latched around my head. I glanced up, unable to see what it was.
"First question. Where have you been staying?" he asked, "Because recently we've discovered that murderers and killers alike have been living under the same roof! Strange, no?"
"Yeah.. I haven't heard of that. I've been sticking to the streets." I replied, my heart speeding up as I averted my eyes. I had never been the best liar.
"Hmm.. are you sure?" he asked, smiling in a cruel manner.
"I'm-I'm pretty sure, yeah." I said, hoping he would just take the answer and move on.
Without warning an excruciating pain blazed through my body. It didn't even feel like a shock, or like anything I had ever experienced before.
My eyes rolled to the back of my head and I screeched in agony. It felt like someone was shoving a torch down my throat and pouring acid into my lungs.
"STOP!" I screamed, but I was unable to move or do anything. I kept screaming until I could no more. He just watched in amusement, leaning back into his chair as he listened to my pleas.
Finally, after what felt like centuries of torturous pain stopped. He sighed and shook his head. It felt like hot ashes were being poured onto my skin, even though he had stopped it.
"Where do they live?" he asked, his hand hovering over the button.
I didn't know how to respond. I knew I shouldn't give them away. I had to be loyal. But.. why should I? Jeff abandoned me. Betrayal stabbed at the pit of my stomach.
"3...2-" he began, looking at me expectantly.
"I told you, I don't even know what you're talking about!" I growled, bracing myself for more pain.
It began once more, pain twisting around my lungs and bones again, gripping them ruthlessly. Searing fire-like agony tightened my throat, while it felt like needles dipped in alcohol were jabbing into my veins.
I screeched, my voice cracking and faltering. I was unsure of why I could feel yet be numb at the same time.
He twisted a knob up, causing excruciating, tortuous agony to rip through my skin and bones. It felt as if my muscles were being torn and rearranged, like someone was getting hot iron and melting my flesh to the bone.
I couldn't physically scream anymore, even if I tried. My vision began going black. To be honest, the darkness looked quite enticing. I struggled to keep my eyes open a moment longer before I could no longer hold it anymore.
I gave into unconsciousness, embracing it warmly as I drifted away from the scorching agony. The last thing I saw was the cruel, glittering eyes of the man who was supposed to be my stepdad.
