Chapter 3
[Kakashi's pov | Running back towards Konoha]
"So, what are you?" I asked as I ran towards Konoha. "What am I?!" She shouted, sounding as though she had a mix between and Irish and a Scottish accent, "How do you know I'm not just short, you dick?!"
I sweat dropped, looking down at the pouting girl in my arms as I tried to think of an excuse. "Uh.... you don't have chakra?" I tried. She narrowed her odd eyes at me before huffing. I knew I'd won.
"Fine." She sighed. "I'm a dwarf."
I almost slammed into a tree branch.
"A... can you repeat that?" There's no way she's a dwarf, simply because they don't exist! A dwarf? Yeah right. I mean, my dad read to me about those as a kid! They were never real, and even if they had been, they'd all be dead.
"Well I am, me clan survived up in th' mountains." She said to me. "Well, why aren't you with them did?" I asked. "They're all dead." She said bluntly. I blinked, "What happened?"
"A bloody massacre, 'at's what!" She exclaimed, raising one of her small fists. I stared down at her. "What exactly.... are you like the dwarves in the fairy tales?" I asked. "Pretty close. We blacksmith, and we also do magic. That's what you sense in me'." She said.
"Magic doesn't exist." I said instantly. She raised a brow at me. "Really now?" She asked, her accent making her seem more intimidating somehow. "Yeah, magic isn't real." I said. "Chakra 'er whatever ya' use is real, ain't it?" She asked.
"....Fair point." I sighed, jumping over a small river. She snapped her fingers and the tree in front of me set on fire. "Whoa!" I shouted, flipping as to avoid landing on it's flaming branches. Landing softly on the grass, I whirled around only to that the tree was no longer flaming, and looked fine.
"How'd you do that?" I asked, wondering if it was really safe to bring her back to Konoha. "Magic, ye non-believer." She said, sending me a small glare. I sweat dropped at her, "Sorry."
She shrugged and I continued towards Konoha. In my arms, Edryn looked around at everything curiously. She must be so isolated from the rest of the world, living up in the mountains and all. I still have to wonder what happened to her family. I know they were massacred, but by who?
"Oi." She said, grabbing my attention. "Yes?" I asked, looking down at her. "Ye' got a dog?" She asked. "Yeah, I have a few. Why?" I asked. "Always wanted a dog." She said, "Never could get one up in th' mountains. Not enough air I suppose."
"You can meet mine sometime if you want." I said. "Really?" She asked incredulously. "Sure." I shrugged. "I knew I liked 'ou." She said, smiling. There was a screech and I turned to see an angry raccoon. Edryn narrowed her eyes at it.
"I didn't steal none of ya' berries, ya' rodent!"
It screeched, clawing in her direction.
"My mother wasn't a rat 'ya vermin! Fight me'!"
Sweat dropping, I continued on. She continued to scream back at the raccoon, and it screeched back. Thankfully we were soon far enough that they could no longer hear each other, and we were nearing Konoha to.
"I'm guessing you can talk to animals." I sweat dropped again. "Ya', can't you?" She asked. "Nope." I shook my head. "Th' other humans then?" She asked. "A few." I shrugged. She began to mumbled under her breath, "Primates, the lot of ya."
I sweat dropped again.
