WHEN YOU MOVED to Egypt, you didn't really expect much to change in your life other than your job (and location, of course). Transferring from a London university, it was refreshing to actually be in the country you had studied and been curious about for so long. The library was the only one for a couple of miles, and you were the only expert there to catalogue anything - which meant that the curator put a lot of pressure on you.

You, however, wouldn't have it any other way. The air was always hot and dry, and the only person you had to talk to was your friend Harry (if he wasn't off finding some useless artifact, or getting drunk).

That was, until said friend brings you a curiously shaped box that he stole off of a man set for the gallows.

DISCLAIMERS.

- majority of this will be (edited) dialogue from the movie, but i will include some original scenes that aren't in the movie.

- the movie is out-dated when it comes to handling egyptian culture, misogyny, etc. so i'll be correcting some of the more uncomfortable stuff (ie. dialogue, actions). on a general basis it does better than most movies, but there's still some icky parts.

- some characters will change. the reader replaces evy, but the character won't be entirely the same. jonathan is also replaced by 'harry', reader's friend from their childhood.

- i will try to keep language as gender neutral as possible.

- i do not own these characters or the re-worked dialogue. i only own the personalization of the reader, harry, and original scenes that aren't in the film!
