Family
Omega's POV
Family traditions are supposed to be cosy, bonding experiences. Not in ours. Thanks to my father... Ours were more brutal. It was tradition that if you forgot to take your shoes off before entering the house you got no hot water for a week, not for showers, baths or even coffee. It was tradition that if you left a sweater on the couch instead of putting it away you did everyone else's laundry for them. It was a tradition that if you raised your voice, for any reason, you got beaten with a rod. And to my parent's astonishment it also turned out to be a tradition for us to leave home the minute we were able to.
End of Omega's POV
Family was what Carbide lived for and what Omega couldn't wait to escape. Carbide's parents supported him, loved him, made sure he was alright. Omega's parents let him know what a disappointment he was, not going to specialize skills training like his father. When he started to hang out with Carbide In just a few short months he had new "parents" and "brother". Going over for Sunday lunch felt like coming home in a way his parent's house never had. Now that the two cousins cleared their misunderstandings. They were able to talk more about family with the girls, to fill them with details so they would know more about each other. Omega began to say
- My mother was task master, mission maker and decider of everyone's general direction in life. She organized the chores, the academia and the fun like any good army drill sergeant. My father did nothing but work; work at his job, work at fixing up the house and work at getting enough sleep so that he didn't doze off on the way to the army the next day. Once in a while he would smile or laugh. My family was as dysfunctional as it was small. By the time I was a teen, fast growing and hungry, I got the same meat portion as the toddlers. Never enough to be full. It's true that we older kids learned more self-sufficiency and parenting skills than our more pampered peers, but for the most part we really just wanted our freedom. As soon as I could earn a buck I was buying my own food and for my bro too.
- Yeah those were hard times. I did as much as I could to help Omega and his family. My parents adored him though.
- Always loved my uncle and aunt too. Even though they were Carby's parents it felt sometimes like if they were mine. Although I don't understand why? Dad wasn't always like that. He was pretty decent when I was little boy. Constantly absent but as I got older things got worse. Although I miss my mom and my brother. I assumed they were dead for the crisis that hit our planet. But, I'm not quite sure... with her I had happy times... For example, I'm not sure who started it but in our family we all knew it was nearly Christmas when Mom started putting whipped cream on the hot chocolates. I thought everyone did it until I mentioned it at school and got a sea of blank faces in response. Apparently it's just us that does that.
Oblivion was observing carefully Omega's expression. She doesn't know what would it be like without her parents. Suddenly she had an idea.
- Why don't we go to Hiraeth?
Then there's a pure silence. All eyes were on Oblivion even Leviathan left his food when she said that. Omega answered the question
- Hiraeth is a dangerous place. We don't know what can in be-
Carbide quickly interrupted
- It could be a good idea. Years have passed. Who knows? Maybe it has changed for good!
Omega slammed his right hand on the table as he said almost angrily
- Or it could have changed for the worst.
Oblivion held his hand in sight on comfort. Then she gently said
- We could save them. We are trained to fight! We could help your brother and your mother. Doesn't that sound good to you?
- I don't know I guess I'm scared of finding out how it is now... but what's life without a bit of risk right? Let's do it
As soon as they finished their meal. The 4 of them headed off to see The Visitor.
- Welcome, oh who are these ladies. And Carbide... I didn't know you were part of the dark side.
- I'm not
Omega placed his hand on his shoulder so he could be the one that talks. Omega's armor made his voice sound scary not as it is in real life. In his armor his voice was grim-reaper sort. It was as if a toneless guttural voice was heard. As gravelly and penetrating as it was gruff. Omega used his retractable steel claws to make some scratches on the table to make sure the visitor knew he couldn't talk to him like that.
- Next time will be your neck. Now where are the crystals for the rifts?
- I don't have any!
Omega picked him up by the shirt lifting him up close enough to where he can make eye contact.
- They are over there. You can take them all.
Omega dropped him as he leaned over to get some the visitor said with a smile. Almost sounding threatening.
- Be careful... my pets don't like strangers.
A dog like creature came from the dark. Omega didn't took a step back he handed it to oblivion as he got closer to the creature. Carbide transformed into his alien self standing by Omega. Criterion and Oblivion using retractable claws like Omega stood strong. The creature knew better and simply walked away.
He provided with enough crystals to go and come back with no problem.
So they went to the planet of Hiraeth.
