The Attic
Previously on Dust and Shadows...
Your parents left me all this to give to you if everything went to shit one day. I guess it's time I give it to you." She said as she gave me keys, an address on a piece of paper and a credit card with the pin and an USB stick.
"I knew your parents, Miss Martin. And they were brave, loyal Fighters. They died for the cause, and to help ensure your safety. There weren't more trustworthy Fighter than them. Be proud, and recover." Then she took something other out from her drawer and gave it to me. A photograph. Two people. A woman, as beautiful as the morning sunset in winter, and a man, stern but soft, wise... I looked closer and Mrs Smith took my hand. "They might not have had royal blood... But they were truly royalty."
***************
So yeah. I am kicked out. I feel like shit even more and I just wanna cuddle up into a ball and spend the rest of the day in the bed that no longer is mine. I watched as people from some 'moving out' company were taking my stuff to their van and coming back for more. When they were done they just hooped in and drove away. And at the same time, my cab came. "I can't believe they're making you leave." I heard Taylor in the back as he was walking quickly towards me. "Can you blame them? I can't even kill a fly." I said and looked away. "Do you want me to come with you? You don't know the house or where is it and maybe I can help with unpacking." I looked at him. "No, it's okay. I don't think it's anything special. I don't think my parents were rich or anything. I'll be fine on my own, but thanks though."
...
Holy fucking cheesy crackers with mustard! I stood with my jaw dropped open, staring with disbelief at the huge house in front of me.(Picture above) "You gotta be kidding me." I said to myself but someone cleared their throat next to me. I snapped to him with my jaw still dropped open, unable to process the image of the house. "We took all the things inside, ma'am. I just need you to sign here... and here." I nodded my head and signed the papers. "Thank you and have a nice day, ma'am." I turned from him to the house again and still couldn't believe it. I loved it, and yet it scared me; my parents lived here before they died...
Some older woman came out from the house and I frowned. Who's that? She rushed towards me with a huge smile. "My dear! You're really here! After all this time! God, what a beauty you are!" She kept saying as she pulled me into a lungs-breaking hug. She had short grey hair and bright blue eyes. She was maybe in her late fifties, the same length as me and wore a white shirt with black trousers. "I'm sorry... Do I know you?" I asked awkwardly as the lady let me go. "Of course not, darling! I knew you from when you were a baby!My name's Adelaide and I was your nanny!" My jaw dropped again. "I took care of you while your parents were out on missions, sweetheart. After they died I took care of the house until you are old enough to do it yourself. And here you are, as beautiful as your mother... Oh dear, I heard about what happened in The Shelter. Like those bastards on the council don't have nothing to do but to discuss your fighting skills so soon after the incident." She said and took my hand. "Julia, sweetheart. It's good you're back. Your parents would've wanted you to be here. Come inside, I'll show you around."
...
"And here's the master bedroom. It belonged to your parents." Adelaide said as I entered their former bedroom. It was huge, clean and smelled fresh. There was one king sized bed in the middle, a huge TV and other expensive-looking furniture along with a huge window. It somehow pained me to be there but I pushed the feeling away. I lived my whole life without missing them, nothing will change now. Adelaide showed me the whole house.
"All your parents' things are in the attic if you ever want to take a peak. It's all yours now, darling. I'll leave you to it. Remember, if you need anything my house is just down the road. Take care child. I'll check up on you tomorrow." She said as she hugged me tightly again. "Thank you, Adelaide. For everything."

||Kayden's POV||
I walked downstairs and noticed someone's things being taken into a van...? I looked outside and saw Julia standing there and a cab stopped near her. Then Taylor the dickhead came to her. They talked a little and then she was off and Taylor headed back inside. "Taylor!" I called him as he entered the building. He rolled his eyes and turned towards me. "What do you want, Kayden?" He asked annoyed and I wondered how good would it feel to punch him right in the face. "What the hell is happening? Where's Julia?" I asked sternly and he frowned at me. "You don't know? They kicked her out. The council said she makes no progress and is too soft to be here. They moved her to her parents' former house." I looked at him shocked and angry. How dare they?! Taylor suddenly tensed up. "But don't think about going to her or you'll be dealing with me." I looked at him more seriously. "Are you threatening me?" I asked and he moved closer. "Hell yeah I am, so watch your back." Wow dickhead I am so scared. I watched how he walked away.
I had to see if Julia was okay...
||Julia's POV||
I kept unpacking into an empty bedroom but no matter how busy I kept myself, I kept thinking what's in the goddamn attic. I finally lost it and went upstairs. Very slowly, I opened the door to the attic. I turned on the lights. The attic wasn't small, and it was filled with dust and boxes. A lot of boxes. I looked around and slowly opened one of them. It was filled with clothes. The pain in my heart from earlier came back and again, I pushed it again even though it was harder this time. Maybe my memory didn't come back, but the fake one nearly faded away and all I could think about is the emptiness inside me. I looked a little more through the boxes until I found a laptop. I plugged it in and turned it on. As it opened, a big wallpaper of them caught my eyes. I really did look a little like her but she looked more formal, and more beautiful. I remembered the USB stick Mrs Smith gave to me, and I took it out of my back pocket and plugged it into the laptop. I sat on the ground with the laptop on my knees. There was only one thing on the stick: a video. I clicked on it.
My mother came into view, half worried and half smiling. I took a deep breath. "Hey... Honey..." Her voice was all it for a tear to roll down my cheek. "I don't know how to say this... but if you're watching this... It means things took a wrong turn. I know... it must be hard for you, me and your father are trying to make sure you have everything you need for your future but it's not that simple. These are dark times, Julia. There are a lot of secrets, and things you don't know. You have to understand, that everything we did, bad or good was for your good, honey. We have to ensure your safety, your future, your life. Even if it has to be without us. We love you. We have always loved you and always will, no matter what people say or do. If you're watching this, and god forbid it, we did not abandon you, honey. Remember that your parents are always with you, in your heart, everyday. I am so so sorry you had to grow up without a family, but you're strong. You'll get through this. I know you will because you are my daughter... You deserve to be happy and I hope you are. I hope you fall in love and party and learn a lot. I hope you live your life to the fullest, I hope you're a good Fighter, and I am sorry. I'm sorry I'm not there to listen to your worries and make you feel better, tell you it's all gonna be alright. I'm sorry I'm not there to show you the world and always be a shoulder for you to cry on. I'm sorry I didn't get to give you enough love so you wouldn't feel lonely. I'm sorry you don't remember me. But I love you. And your father loves you. More than anything in the world." Suddenly I heard a child crying in the background. My mom wiped her tears. "I gotta go, baby. I guess you got hungry heh.... I love you Julia. We love you. Please be safe and look after yourself... Goodbye honey." I wiped away my tears and stopped myself from crying. I bit my lip and shut down the laptop. I will not cry. I don't even know this woman. I don't even know myself. I got out of the attic and rushed downstairs. Why do I feel like this? I don't even know them! I don't love them! I don't! Suddenly I bumped into someone. I jumped in shock, but then eased up. "What are you doing here Kayden?!" I literally shouted at him. "Wow! Easy...! What happened? Is someone here?" He looked around suspiciously. "What? No! Just get out..." I said with my voice tearing up and tears overfilled my eyes. All I needed was him to remind me of his fiancee. "Hey, hey... It's okay." He said as he put his arms around me but I pushed him away. "What do you want? Go to your fiancee." I said weakly and he tensed up. "Julia let me explain-" I rolled my eyes. "I don't love her! I didn't know her until that dinner! My parents announced the engagement when you and Taylor were in the game. I don't love her, Julia. And never will. Because she will never be you... I love you."
I looked at him shocked. "What?" I asked in disbelief and he leaned in closer. "I love you Julia. I always have, and always will."
I pushed him away. "You think you're funny? Just coming in here and saying those things? How am I supposed to believe you after everything-" Suddenly his lips were on mine. His hand was on my waist and he pulled me closer. He kissed me slowly, with love. When I got my senses back I quickly pushed him away and looked at him in shock. "You're engaged." I said quickly. "I'll break the engagement." He answered almost instantly. I thought about it. I looked at him again and fuck this. I crashed my lips with his, putting my hands around his neck and his hands were firmly on my waist before somehow my legs were tangled around his torso and he headed towards the bedroom, not breaking the kiss.
