To recap: Katherine was born in 1981, died in 1999. Dax was born in 1980, died in 1998. Cin was born in 1982, died in 1999. Oriel was born in 1982, died in 1999. They were all in their 18s and 17s when they were turned.

Katherine's POV

Bella decided to go on with her friends to La Push Beach and I decided to join her. Before the trip, Dax and I talked to mother and father. It turns out they both knew we were fated to be mated to vampires. It sucks at times when mother knows more than we do.

As the boys, Jessica and Britney all got ready to go out and surf, Angela, Bella and I sat in the van to keep warm.

"It's freezing!" The boys complain.

"Well, we're paddling out." Jessica smirks.

"Yeah, you guys are such, babies." Brittney giggles in a high pitch that had me wincing and rolling my eyes.

Angela kept a blanket wrapped around her, Bella nibbled on Twizzlers. Dax, Cin, and Oriel joined us.

Cin comes out in his wet suit with Dax, carrying surfboard, "It's been years since I got on a board. Last time I surfed was with Andy Irons." (Andy Irons was a famous surfer in the 90s and early 2000s. He passed away in 2011. I never heard of him but I needed a surfer. Since Cin was a trust fund brat he rubbed elbows with famous people even in death.) Cin says softly to Dax.

"When was that?" Dax asks.

"2001, I think. No, 2002. What a year." Cin whistles in amazement and chuckles at the memories, "I banged this hot chick who won Miss Hawaii, biggest coconuts." Cin gestures at his chest to show Dax how big, Dax smacks his head.

"So, I keep thinking Eric is gonna ask me to the prom, and then he just doesn't." Angela frowns and sighs softly.

Bella nips on a twizzler, "You should ask him. Take control. You're a strong, independent woman." Bella says.

Angela gives a small smile and rests her head against the side of the interior of the van, "I am?" She asks as she feels a little unsure of herself.

"Of course you are." Oriel says as she takes a twizzler, "Men are afraid of women and rejection. Nice guys at least, like those who are like Eric. Just go up to him, look at him in the eye, and ask him to the prom." She bites of a piece of the twizzler and smiles.

"Bella!" Jacob walks up with two others.

"Hi, Jacob." She smiles at him. "Guys, this is Jacob." Bella introduces him to her friends.

"Hey, guys, how you doing?" Jacob says.

"Hey, Jake." Dax greets him with a bro-hug.

"What's up, Dax? Hey, Katherine." Jacob greets us.

"Hey, Jake. Jake, these are our friend from back home. This is Oriel." I point to Oriel and she smiles and waves. "And this is Cin." I point over to Cin.

"What's up?" Cin ties his shoulder-length, shaggy brown hair up into a ball and picks his board back up. "I don't know about you guys, but I need some waves. So lates." Cin takes off towards the beach.

"So, what, are you stalking me now?" Bella jokes as Jacob walks over to sit next to Bella and steal a twizzler or two.

Jacob scoffs, "You're on my rez, remember?" He smiles.

Bella nods awkwardly.

"Are you surfing?" He asks.

It was Bella's turn to scoff, "Defiantly not." She says.

"You guys should keep Bella company. Her date bailed." Jessica says.

Eric frowns sadly, "What date?" he asks.

Jessica smirks, "She invited Edward." She taunts.

"Just to be polite, that's it." Bella says, blushing a little.

"I think it's nice she invited him." Jessica says.

"No one ever does." Brittney says.

"Yeah, Cullen's a freak." Mike says bitterly.

Jacob's buddies' chuckle, "You got that right." One says.

"You guys know him?" I eye them both.

"The Cullens don't come here." He says bitterly.

I look at Dax and frown. What did he mean by that?

"Christ! It's cold!" We hear Cin screaming in the distance.

Dax and I walked along the beach while Oriel tended to Cin. Help him warm up.

"Why do you think that guy says they don't come here?" I asked.

Dax shrugs, "I don't know. I remember something though. Wolves and vampires have been at each others throats for centuries. Maybe they are just staying away from each others territories. Who knows? I tried to invite Alice along but, she looked like she was about to freak out when I mentioned La Push. I was hoping that we have a date on the beach." Dax says, smiling at the thought.

I looked at him, admiring his smile, it was very genuine, and "You really like her, don't you?" I ask.

He laughs softly, "I haven't felt this way in so long. My late ex, we didn't really connect and I was hoping maybe with Remy with us, he could be our rock to strengthen our relationship. Then, she died. I connect so well with Alice on a level no one can imagine. Well, besides you with Jasper." Dax says.

"I hope Mother and Father will let us tell them the truth soon. I trust Jasper and...I think I'm falling in love." I say.

Dax smiles and gives me a side hug, "Me too. With Alice."

We see Bella and Jacob coming up back from their walk then we hear Mike calling us. "Hey, guys, come here. Check this out." He says.

He, Eric, and Tyler were standing in front of a cave near the beach. All of us stood with them outside the cave, "Listen." He says.

We all listen closely, then we heard it, chirping sounds of bats. The waves drown it out but, barely if you can hear it carefully, you can hear the chirping. Dax smiles and walks into the cave.

"Dax, what are you doing?!" Mike protested, along with the others, except us of course.

"I don't like dark places." Jessica whines.

We all walked in, following Dax.

"Dax, why are we in here?" Eric asks.

Dax didn't say anything, he continued to follow the chirping. Pretty soon, the sound got louder. Dax looks around and sees an area and walks carefully towards a hole.

"Eureka!" He exclaims.

"What?" Everyone looks over to where he was and walked over to stand near him. Eric and Mike had flashlights to see where to go.

"What are you doing?" Mike asks.

"Can you hear it?" Dax asks.

They listen and hear the loud chirping.

Dax slowly reaches towards the hole, "Wait, whoa, Dax, don't do it." Brittney protests.

"It's ok." He says.

He reaches into the hole carefully. Slowly going deeper.

"AAAAAAAH!" He screams in terror, making everyone jump and scream.

Britney and Jessica jump into each others arms.

Dax starts laughing hard, clutching his belly with his other hand, "The look on your faces." He snorts.

Eric smacks his arm, "That wasn't funny." He says.

"No, but that is." Dax points at Mike and Tyler, holding each other.

They jumped out of each others arms like they were on fire.

"Now, seriously." He reaches again and carefully pulls his arm out but stops, "Mike, Eric, turn the brightness down." He says.

They did as he says, then Dax pulls out a small, juvenile brown bat.

Brittney shrieks and jumps.

The bat screeches in fear, Dax holds it carefully, "Shhh, don't scare him." He frowns at her.

"Scare him?!" She exclaims in disbelief.

"It's okay. Shh." Dax soothes the bat till it wrapped his wings around his hand, screeching softly.

Bella gasps, "It's so cute." She coos.

"Why are you holding it anyway? It might have rabies." Mike says.

Dax shakes his head, "If he was infected, he would be paralyzed.  Young bats can't tolerate the rabies virus in their systems like adults can.  And besides, I can only get it if he bites me or scratches me.  See?  He's gentle." He points out the how the bat was gripping his hand.  "As long as you are careful, like I am, he won't hurt you.  You just have to show you mean no harm.  But, you guys should wear gloves."  He mentions as he begins to put the bat back into his roost.

"That was so cool!" Mike exclaims as we all walk out of the cave.

"How do you know so much about bats?"  Angela asks.

"Well, before we lived in Chicago, we lived in a small town near a farm.  Had bats in a barn and on a dare, I was suppose to stay in the barn all night.  One got on me and, I admit, I was scared, but when I saw he didn't mean any harm, he just wanted some of my fruit.  He was the most gentlest thing I ever seen.  Since then, I've been bat crazy."  He lies.  Well, what can he say?  That he's the ruler of the bats in his world and they turn to him like a king?

A few hours later, we were back at home.  Light was falling into twilight so I decided to go lie in my hammock outside with my wolf. I call her Midnight. She laid her head on my belly as we were swinging with the wind. I carefully listened to sounds of nature. Mother Nature speaks but humans never take the time to listen to her. She sounds so beautiful. Suddenly I hear whispering, warnings. I was being watched. I took a deep breath and smiled at the familiar scent. Jasper. He was spying on me. I wanted to say hi but I don't think he wanted me to know that I know he's out there. I started to think about what happened to Bella those few days ago, her accident. I knew she wasn't the type to drop it. She saw what I saw. Edward used his strength to stop the van from killing her. But, why? Could they be mates as well? I sigh and rub Midnight's ears. Maybe the answer will come in time.

Jasper's POV

I watched Katherine from my hiding place.  Sighing softly with need.  It's so hard to be away from her.  But, I can't risk it.  I don't want to scare her away.  I just found her.  I want to be with her every waking moment.  If I told her this, she would probably see me as a stalker.   Being near her like this helped, but it still wasn't enough. In all my years of existence, I never imagined I would meet someone like Katherine.  After all that I have done in the past, I don't deserve this happiness I feel with her.

"Come on, Midnight." I hear Katherine call out to her dog.

Midnight.   I must admit, I was worried seeing that big wolf next to her but, knowing it's her pet, that made me feel a little better.  There's no way she had a full blooded wolf, right?

I watched Katherine make her way into the house and hear her enter her bedroom. Her bedroom had a small balcony with a door. I watched her from the tree branch I sat on as she walks around the room. From what I could see, she had mint green walls, light colors. Her bed had a bed spread with the tree of life on it and a few throw pillows that matched. And a throw cover that was emerald green. I watch her walk into a room connected to her room, I'm guessing the bathroom. I looked away when I hear the sound of water running. I respect my mate, but I can't help but think of her under the shower head. Wet and naked...The major growled in lust in my head. He wanted her as much as I did. I wanted to be with her in every way possible to be connected to her. Body and soul.

Wasn't long till she came out of the bathroom as steam followed her out. She was dressed up in a long sleeve gray t-shirt and green plaid shorts. Her hair was soaked, giving it a dark blood color. Her face was flushed, making her so cute and sexy. Especially with the water dripping from her skin. I ached to just touch her right now. Hold her as she slept. She sat down at her little dresser and brushed her hair, drying it a little with a towel. Then, later I found myself standing in her room, watching her as she slept. She looked so peaceful. So beautiful and innocent. Could she love someone like me? Love a monster like me? After all I have done in the past, could she love me still?

"Jasper." She mutters in her sleep.

My chest felt tight when I heard her say my name.

"Don't leave, please." She says softly and turns over to her side.

I walk slowly towards the side she faced and sat on her bed carefully.

Brushing my fingers over her cheek and touching her damp hair, "Never, my love. I will never leave you." I whisper to her. That I swear. I will never leave my soul mate.
