The Princess
I have always wanted to find "True Love" but, now? I'm not sure what real.
"Juliet! Come down here." My father called me from the downstairs corridor. His words echoed around the castle. "This is where my fantasy meets reality," I thought and silently sank to the floor. back up against the cold stone wall. I silently cried. Tears trickled down my cheek as I wept for the fantasy of love that I so often thought of. I replayed the moments I thought up when I would meet my Prince Charming. "Juliet Coleman! Come down this instant!" I wiped my tear struck face and got up. My heels clicked down the hardwood floors. "I will be with you soon." I voiced my words just louder than a whisper. I stood just in front of the stairs, My Father and Mother waited at the bottom. My Mother smiled at the sight of me, like laying her eyes on me filled her heart with joy. My Father, never really cared for me. He wanted a male heir to take the throne, but even I was a miracle for my parents.
"Juliet my dear, your birthday ball is a few weeks away. We will go into town so you can pick out an outfit." My Mothers voice was soft as she spoke. Her eyes glistened from the candlelight on the wall. "Really Mother? I can pick out my own dress? I can go into town? Oh please say this is true Father!" My heart leaped at the thought of being able to leave the castle grounds. My parents always said it was too dangerous, but for a Princess to not be able to explore the Kingdom. Well to me that's insanity! "Yes Juliet, you can go into town to pick out a dress." My Fathers stern face looked worried. His eyes wrinkled more than usual, "Oh thank you, Father! Thank you, Mother!" I gave them a great big hug, it made me forget why I was crying. "Under one condition Juliet." My Father looked me dead in the eye. My joyous expression faded, "This is the bad part." I thought to myself. My thoughts wondered thinking of everything he could say. "You will dress like a peasant and have a Guard accompany you. Your Mother will be joining you in the town square." My Father was never the joking person but, this had to be a joke. He could sense I was confused and continued. "Juliet my dear child, this is for you and your Mothers safety. I will be staying in the castle to continue to work on," He paused for a second. I could sense what he was about to say. "Your Ball" "Juliet Darling why don't you get changed. I had the Maid send up some clothes for you. Meet me at the front gate when you are ready." My Mothers tone of voice changed. I could sense she wanted to talk about anything else. "Yes, Mother." I chocked back tears and walked swiftly to my room. My parent's footsteps echoed through the hallway. drowning out my tears.
When I arrived in my room I gazed upon the bed. There where old rags, littered with dirt. The maid could see the disgusted look on my face. "My dear Princess, this is what most women have to wear all day. You can wear it until sundown." The maid spoke in a soothing voice. I nodded slightly trying to hide my expressions. "Well, Princess lets get you dressed." When I was in the dress it isn't the satin skirt I am used to but I do like that it doesn't have the hoop skirt that is always hard to walk in. I thanked the maid and met Mother by the gate where she waited by a Carriage and a man. The man I have never seen before, he had Wispy blonde hair and striking Hazel eyes. Mother was almost hard to recognize in her rags and I have never seen a guard out of the loud metal armor. "Ready to go Darling?" Mother asked with the look of adventure in her eye. My eyes wandered around the courtyard. "Where is Father? is he not coming to say goodbye?" My mind immediately thought the Answer. Working. "Your Father is working. We will see him at dinner when we return." My Mother than hopped into the carriage without a second thought. My head nodded slightly and hopped in after my Mother. The guard closed the door behind me and seated himself at the front of the carriage. The ride wouldn't last long but the closer I got to town my heart pounded more and more as if something was going to happen that would change my life.
After a twenty minutes or so we arrived at the town square. No one gave us a second glance, it was dirtier than I imagined. I stepped down from the carriage onto the dirt roads I looked around the town square everyone was busy doing something. I could feel myself start to smile, this was different than the castle. Better almost. No one telling me what to do, I started to walk from shop to shop gazing in amazement at the trinkets and food at each table. A few minutes later my fun was ruined. The guard and Mother raced up to meet me. "Juliet you cant wander off in this place, it would be next to impossible to find you." The guard had a cold expression on his face. He was getting fed up with me already and we just got. "Come darling lets look for a dress." My Mother started walking around the shops looking for a dress store or a tailor. after a few minutes, we finally found one. "Good morning sir." My Mother smiled at the peasant boy. "Morning Ma'am how can I help you?" He looked up from his work. He had a charming expression on his face like he had no worries in the world. "I am looking for a dress for my Daughter," She glanced over at me. "It must be extravagant like no one ever saw." The Tailor looked over at me, he stared at me and smiled. His brown eyes twinkled in the light. The sun reflected off his sunkissed skin. He brushed his wavy red off his face. I gazed into his eyes and I just got lost. Until, "Do you think you can do that?" My Mother spoke. "Yes, certainly ma'am. I will make a dress no one has ever seen. It will be one of a kind." He went and got a magnificent violet fabric, "Would this fabric do? " he said gesturing to the fabric. "It would bring out her eyes." He smiled at me. My face turned red slightly. The Guard grumbled something underneath his breath. I turned to him confused, he seemed mad but I turned back to the fabric. "It is beautiful." I spoke, "Isn't it I have never seen anything like it before!" My Mother sounded breath taken. "Where shall I drop off the dress when it's done?" The Tailor asked. My Mother looked worried she looked at the guard for help. "I will pick up the dress when it is done." His voice was deep and reassuring. "Ok sir, it should be done in a week." And with that, the Guard guided me and my Mother back to the carriage. The sun started to sink low in the sky, the sun danced in the sky reflecting magnificent colors off the clouds.
