Mistakes (part two)
I start walking down the street with him, the silence awkward.
'So, this is, uh, awkward...' He chuckled nervously. I laugh lightly.
'Yeah...well I guess we don't really talk much as flatmates?' I claim.
He chuckled again. 'Yeah, my fault. I'm just so busy all the time, and yeah... so uh, how are things with you and Dean?'
I giggled nervously. I was doing a lot of unnecessary laughing and giggling today.
'Well, now you mention it, things haven't exactly been that, uh I guess 'great' lately.' I sigh. 'He won't even touch me now a days...' I frown. 'And he's always on some business trip or another'
He frowns. 'Really, 'cause the last time I spoke to him he kept talking about...oh, we're here' He stopped in front of a little cafe in the corner. It looked terribly old-fashioned, so un-duncany that I started to laugh. He turned to me and raised an eyebrow.
'What?'
'It's just.. I never thought someone like, well, you, would come here' and I chuckled some more. Duncan half glared at me, then rolled his eyes heaven-wards and stepped in, holding the door.
'Princess's first,' he smirked, then bowed slightly. I swatted him.
He led me to a little window table at the back, with soft cushiony seats.
'What'd you wanna get?' He asked.
'I dunno, what do you recommend?'
'Mmm, well the grilled cheese and tomatoe soup here is pretty good?' He said, scratching the back of his neck.
I smiled up at him.
'Sure, I'll take that.'
I ordered my food, and he got the same. When it came, we ate in comfortable silence.
'So, what were you saying about the last time you spoke to Dean?' I questioned, remembering him starting a sentence then being cut off when we got here. He frowned again.
'Well, he was saying...things about how you dont want to have sex with him...and that the one time you did...you said some random guys name...I think it was Mark or something..?' He looked up at me.
I stared back at him, agape and in obvious shock.
'HE. SAID. WHAT?!' I yelled, banging my fist on the table. Duncan shooshed me, throwing his hand over my mouth as the others in the cafe began to murmur.
I looked at him angrily.
'Well, news flash... me and Dean have never even had sex before?' I whisper-shouted. His mouth was wide open. 'We've barely gone further than kissing, cuz he's always, I quote 'too tired'
'But you've been together for...he said that..' He stammered, confused.
'Yes, well my now ex- boyfriend Dean is going to be living all by himself with you. I'll be gone by morning' I said, trying to keep my voice calm, and not show the tears that we're threatening to pour down my cheeks any minute. And to think I thought he would actually ask to marry me! I start bundling my stuff up and start to leave. I feel a hand wrap itself around my arm. I whip around.
'What?!' I snapped.
'Hey, don't attack me. I just kinda hoped we would finish the meal...I, well really enjoyed being here with you'
And for the first time since I met him, I saw Duncan blush.
DUNCAN!
I sit down. 'Fine. But tomorrow morning I'm gone'
He shakes his head. 'Nope, Dean is' he replies.
And he leans in to kiss me.
It's slow, and passionate and just postitively amazing. That one kiss had more energy than Deans filthy, lying pinky finger. I stop only when I run out of breath, well, along with the fact that the people nearby had started to cough.
'No you can't do that Duncan he's your brother and...' I stop my rambling abruptly when I see his face freeze up.
'What?' I quiz, leaning back, but my hand still in his.
'Uh, don't turn around Princess' and he gulps nervously.
'What?' I repeat curiously. I slowly turn around, as if I'm slow motion, and my eyes meet his.
Dean standing outside the cafe.
Kissing another girl.
I stand up and within a blink I'm standing in front of Dean, Duncan behind me. Dean blinks at me rapidly behind his glasses.
'This isn't what it looks like...you see Ivy here is a teacher ....the field trip...she's uh, my co worker...it was a mistake....' he dithered off, not even able to make a stupid excuse come out of his lying mouth.
In one swift movement, I slap his face. Hard.
'Fuck you' I whisper, and the tears start to make an appearance.
Deans eyes swivel to Duncan, pleading for help. Duncan shakes his head,
'Leave by morning Dean. In fact, your bags will be outside.' He paused looking at me. 'Get them when you want' he spits and he snakes his arm around my shoulder.
'Let's go Princess' he says, turning me around.
We don't look back once.
