corrupt hero song fic

a concept

Tw: manipulation, abusive relationships, gaslighting

lyrics in normal text are DC, italics are Florida

For the "Johnny, don't leave me" and "You said you'd love me forever" chapters

"Good for you"

Florida gets manipulated (or forced) to stay with the "hero"

"So you found a place where the grass is greener
And you jumped the fence to the other side
Is it good?
Are they giving you a world I could never provide?" Were they? Was it everything he hoped, tossing the morals he swore he had to the side for whatever reward the hero must've offered him, was it worth it?

"Well I hope you're proud of your big decision
Yeah, I hope it's all that you want and more
Now you're free from the agonizing life you were living before" He wasn't angry about it, why would he be angry about it? He should've seen it coming, Florida didn't have the best past when it came to keeping promises, he should've known better.

"And you say what you need to say
So that you get to walk away
It would kill you to have to stay trapped
When you've got something new" Because Florida had lied to him, told him all about how he'd changed, could be better, but had he really?

"Well I'm sorry you had it rough
And I'm sorry I'm not enough
Thank God they rescued you" Clearly he hadn't, he was siding with them again, which was fine, DC didn't need Florida on his side. He could handle himself.

"So you got what you always wanted
So you got your dream come true
Good for you
Good for you, you, you
Got a taste of a life so perfect
So you did what you had to do
Good for you
Good for you" DC wonders what Florida had been offered, why he was so willing to leave DC behind
Not that it mattered, the decision had been made, Florida made his choice, he had to deal with whatever happened next on his own, DC wouldn't be there for him, not after he betrayed DC like that

"Does it cross your mind to be slightly sorry?
Do you even care that you might be wrong?
Was it fun?
Well I hope you had a blast while you dragged me along" What did they have to offer that DC didn't, did Florida really agree with them? Did he feel any remorse?

"And you say what you need to say
And you play who you need to play
And if somebody's in your way
Crush them and leave them behind" Florida really was as bad as them, willing to lie to DC to get what he wanted, leaving him the second he got what he wanted

"Well I guess if I'm not of use
Go ahead, you can cut me loose
Go ahead now, I won't mind" He didn't need someone like that to win, unlike Florida, his morals weren't flexible, he knows where he stands

"*I'll shut my mouth and I'll let you go
Is that good for you?
Would that be good for you, you, you?" Would it be better if DC just left him alone? Actually had him deal with the concequences of his actions, deal with the effects of his choices?

"**I'll just sit back while you run the show
Is that good for you?
Would that be good for you, you, you?" Should he just give up on Florida like that?

(*It repeats here)

"All I need is some time to think
But the boat is about to sink
Can't erase what I wrote in ink
Tell me how could you change the story?" Florida didn't actually want to side with them

he was afraid of them, afraid of lying to them, afraid of leaving them

He knew DC was hurt, he would be too, but he's still hurt DC accepted it that fast
He wasn't blaming DC, but he felt hopeless, if DC couldn't see it, who would? no one would believe him, how far would he be able to go?

(**It repeats here)

"All the words that I can't take back
Like a train coming off the track
'As the rails and the bolts all crack
I've got to find a way to
Stop it, stop it! Just let me out!" He trusts that DC can handle it, but he can't stop thinking about the "what ifs" because what if, maybe, DC isn't able to stop him, what then?

He couldn't live with himself knowing he'd hurt DC, he needed to find a way out, fast, but every solution seemed like a dead end, nothing looked like it'd work

"So you got what you always wanted
So you got your dream come true
Good for you
Good for you, you, you
Got a taste of a life so perfect
Now you say that you're someone new
Good for you
Good for you
Good for you
Good for you
So you got what you always wanted" Because DC is giving up on Florida, too hurt to dig deeper, to focus on the red flags, he got angry and ignored it

so he didn't see it, believing Florida really did side with the "hero"
