A Dream, A Duel, A Memory
Alex pulled out his Biology textbook as the class was taking their seats, groaning a little from last night, wishing for a cup of coffee. 'What's wrong Alex?' Foxfire asked, looking up at Alex. "Couldn't get any sleep last night," Alex said, taking out his spiral after, throwing it on his desk. 'I really need that coffee,' Alex thought to himself, getting a pitying look from Foxfire.
'Do you want me to take over while you rest?' Foxfire asked gently, just getting a nod from Alex before his vision went black.
Alex opened his eyes, feeling a warm breeze. He smiled as he sat up from his laying position, looking over the field that was his dreamscape. The sun shone brilliantly on the meadow, nearby trees scattering shade. "Man, I am glad for our bond," Alex said, laughing to himself.
With a sudden feeling, Alex turned around to see a figure standing behind him, leaving Alex confused; this never happened before. "Are you Alexander Papyrus?" the figure asked, all except one eye covered by a thick cloak. "Yeah... Who are YOU?" Alex asked, getting up with a frown; the figure chuckled, raising its arm. "A messenger from the secret order. My mistress is most interested in your abilities and has been waiting for an opportunity such as this. Alexander, prepare to duel!" the figure said, a black duel disc on its arm.
"Who is your mistress, and what does she want?" Alex asked, leering at the figure, its laugh telling him it was male. "She knew you would be curious. She told me this; if you win our... match, you can talk to someone long since passed," the figure began, smirking at Alex.
Alex was confused, but made his duel disc appear on his arm with his deck; he had done this plenty of times before against Foxfire when he practiced against Foxfire for the acceptance duel. "I don't know what you are talking about, but I accept your duel! If I win, you tell me who you work for!" Alex stated, the figure nodding. "Oh, and, just to let you know, this won't be just any game... SHADOW GAME!!" the figure yelled, pressing a button on his cloak.
Alex felt chills go down his spine as the dark mist surrounded them, leaving nothing but him and his opponent in sight. Asriel steeled himself from his fear as he drew his first five cards, panting from the aura around him. "Yes, the shadows are not for show, but will affect your body physically; hope you can keep up!" the figure said, drawing his hand.
"I go... first!" Alex said, grabbing a card. "I summon Great Angus (1800 ATK/600 DEF/ 4*/ Beast/Fire) in attack mode!" Alex said, summoning the creature. With a roar, it appeared on the field, glaring at the opponent. "I set two cards face down. Turn end," Alex said, glaring at his opponent as he drew a card.
"I summon this! Come forth Alexandrite Dragon (2000 ATK/0 DEF/ 4*/ Dragon/ Light)!" the figure said. A multicolored dragon appeared on his field, roaring. "Alexandrite! Attack Great Angus! Rainbow Fire Breath!" the figure commanded. With a roar, the dragon sent a stream of fire at Great Angus, making Alex smirk. "Too bad! I activate my Trap Card! I activate Magic Cylinder! This trap redirects your attack right back at you!" Alex said, smirking as the stream went flying to the figure. "So predictable. I discard Chow Chow Chan from my hand! This monster negates your trap cars and destroys it!" The figure countered, getting Asriel to gasp as his Cylinders melted, the fire striking Great Angus. The Beast squealed like a pig as it was cooked, Alex yelping as he felt the heat from the attack.
"Oh, any attack you suffer, any damage you take will become pain. Hope you don't get hit by a direct attack!" the figure laughed, getting Alex to growl as he drew his next card. "I play the spell card known as Monster Reborn! I can special summon one monster from my graveyard, as it is my only choice. I call upon Great Angus!" Alex called, the beast looking mad as it entered the battlefield. "Now, I normal summon Little Chimera!" Alex said, summoning the small creature. The chimera roared cutely as it formed, looking at the enemy with a snarl. "Little Chimera's effect! All Fire monsters on the field gain 500 attack points!" Alex said, smirking at the figure as his monsters attack points went up.
Great Angus (1800-2300 ATK)
Little Chimera (600- 1100 ATK)
"Now! Great Angus, attack Alexandrite Dragon! Charging Rampage!" Alex ordered. Great Angus reared up before it charged at the figure, getting it to smirk as it took another card from his hand. "I discard Honest from my hand! Now, if a light monster I control battles, it gains the attacking monsters attack points!" the figure said, a glow surrounding the rainbow-colored dragon.
Alexandrite Dragon (2000- 4300)
"Slaughter the pig!" the figure yelled, the dragon leaping forward and slashing the pig down, literally tearing it apart. Alex screamed as he fell to his knees, scratches forming on his body from the damaged caused.
Alex: 7900 LP – 5600 LP
Alex laid there for a minute, trying to catch his breath before he slowly got up, panting heavily. "I... end my turn," Alex panted out, knowing his situation was getting worse.
"With my Dragons attack points going down to normal, I draw," the figure said, laughing after. I banish Honest from my graveyard to special summon this card! Come forth, Devotion (2500 ATK/1400 DEF/ 6*/ Light/Fairy)!" the cloaked figure said, playing the monster. A bright burst of light came from his field, a fairy in a robe appearing on it. "I activate Devotions effect! I can activate a banished light monsters effect once per turn! And I choose Honest, gaining a monsters attack points on the field! I choose your little Chimera! Go now Devotion! Kill the Chimera!" the figure commanded with a laugh.
Devotion (2500ATK- 3600)
Alex was sent flying as his monster was destroyed, grunting as his life points went down.
Alex: 5600LP -3100LP
"Devotions second effect! When it destroys a monster by battle, it can attack again with its original attack points!" the figure cried, getting Alex to gasp as the fairy sent a spear of light at him, pinning him to the ground with a painful scream.
Alex: 3100LP- 600LP.
"I end my turn," the figure said, laughing as Alex's vision started to dim, the teen gasping for air. "How does it feel to have the life slipping from your body? To feel your body going numb, to embrace the darkness?" the figure asked, his voice faint to Alex.
Alex's struggle started to get weaker as blood poured from the hole the spear caused. He couldn't do anything as his arms fell to his sides slowly, his vision almost all the way gone. 'I... can't...,' Alex thought, closing his eyes, a single tear escaping his closed lids, knowing he was about to die.
"ALEXANDER CHRISTOPHER PAPYRUS! You open those eyes right now!" a voice demanded, making Alex do just that. A woman stood in front of him, looking at him sternly. "You have fought your whole life, and you are giving up, just like that? I don't think so! You get on your feet and fight like you have before!" the woman said, her hazel eyes burning with a fire that made Alex want to obey her. Alex got up if slowly, pain coursing through his body. "Who... are you?" Alex asked, looking at the flowing black hair the lady had, duly noting that it was the same shade as his.
The woman's demeanor shifted, a warm smile on her face as she walked over to him, hugging him tightly. "You have no idea, how long I have waited to talk to you," the woman said, sounding like she was finding it hard to keep it together. Alex was still confused as he looked at the lady, feeling lost. "I have missed you, so, so much," she said, pulling back to smile sadly. "I miss you, my little Papi," the woman hiccupped, getting tears to spring to Alex's eyes as he realized who it was he was looking at. "MOM!!!" Alex yelled, hugging her tight, crying hysterically into her shoulder, tears flowing freely as he knocked his mother to the ground, wailing like he did at her funeral.
Alissa smiled, crying a little as she hugged her son, patting his back to calm him down, telling him it was okay in gentle tones. Well over an hour passed before Alex stopped crying, holding his mother in a stiff embrace. "Honey, there is something I need to give you. I have to go," Alissa said, her voice fading slightly. "No! Mom...," Alex said, tears rising in his eyes as she started to float up slowly. "I love you, my sweet Papi. I give you this; may she protect you from your fears. I love you," Alissa said as she vanished, leaving Asriel to scream for her.
With a feeling like he was falling, Asriel opened his eyes, hearing a loud "WHAT?!? That attack should have killed you!" the figure yelled as Alex stood up with no pain, glaring at the figure. "YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Alex yelled, drawing his next card, his anger making him see red. "Since I took over 3000 points of damage, I can special summon Alissa, Patron of Flames (3000 ATK/2000 DEF/7*/Spellcaster/Effect/Fire)!!" Alex yelled, slamming the glowing card down on his duel disc. A pillar of flames shot up from the ground, bathing the field in a heat wave before a woman stepped out of the flames. Her hair looked like it was made of fire, her eyes a shade of red that contained an anger greater than Alex's.
Alissa, Patron of Flames: This card can be special summoned if you take 3000 or more points of damage in last turn. This card gains 800 attack per FIRE monster in the graveyard. Up to twice per turn, the controller of this card can discard a card; inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent.
"I activate her effect! I discard a Great Mangus and Ultimate Baseball kid from my hand to inflict 1000 points of damage to your life points!" Alex yelled. Alissa walked over to the figure and slapped him twice, leaving a burned handprint on its mask.
????- 8000LP – 7000 LP
"Now I activate my trap card! Reveal, Call of the haunted! I can special summon one monster from my graveyard! Welcome back Little Chimera!" Alex smirked, the small beast rubbing against Alissa's legs like a cat.
Alissa, Patron of Flames (3000 ATK-5400-5900)
Little Chimera (600 ATK- 1100)
"Now, I normal summon my second Little Chimera!" Alex said.
Alissa, Patron of Flames (5900 ATK-6400)
Little Chimera (1100-1600)
Little Chimera (600-1100-1600)
"I now play my spell card! Fissure!" Alex said, playing the last card from his hand. "I destroy Devotion!" Alex said as the fairy yelled, being dragged underground as it was destroyed. "Go now my Little Chimeras! Attack my opponent directly! Ember Claw!" Alex called. With a loud hiss, the two Chimeras slashed at the opponent, who barely gave a response to the attacks.
????: 7000 LP-5400LP-3800 LP
"Alissa, Patron of Flames! Attack my opponent directly! Consume by Flames!" Alex yelled. With a raised hand, Alissa shot a wide beam of fire at the figure, it not even having time to scream before it was burned to nothing. Alex slowly lowered his arm with his duel disc, looking up at Alissa as she turned to him, smiling gently. "Mom...," Alex said, getting a nod from the monster, Alissa placing a hand on his cheek. 'I love you, my son,' Alissa said gently before fading from existence, the shadows dispersing.
"ALEX!!! Where have you been? I couldn't find you anywhere!" a voice cried, a soft form tackling Alex to the ground, crying on his shoulder. Alex only smiled, hugging Foxfire gently.
"Don't worry Fox. I am here," Alex said gently, a smile on his face.
