We can be rulers

I saw an au where Tubbo and Tommy were PLATONICALLY married and ruled over a small kingdom and it was so peaceful and amazing I love it so much. I'm using it. The only reason they're 'married' is because neither wanted to rule alone, but you can't share power without some sort of connection so they got best friend married. It's totally a thing, I have a wife to prove it. Also long haired Tommy is the best thing that has ever happened to the fandom so yeah. You can fight me over that.

The boy's hadn't waited for the war to be over.

After they heard of Dream's escape from prison the two of them had decided they had had enough of their violence filled life and fled.

They didn't leave a note, the past people to disappear didn't leave them the courtesy, so why would they? The two teens had packed their inventories full of essentials, stole a horse, and left. Leaving their communicators on their beds.

They took turns leading the horse through the different biomes, Tommy took the majority of the time though, he wanted Tubbo to rest and not stress as much. They eventually found a small village, the residents were wary at first. Who wouldn't be, two traumatized and scarred teens coming into your village isn't the usual. But the villagers soon adopted them as part of the town and they moved on with their lifes.

Tubbo and Tommy did everything in their power to protect the village. They built walls around the town, not like L'Manburg but walls that kept mobs out, and they even improved the houses families lived in. The town's people started trading with other villages and the population grew as more people joined.

Eventually the villagers decided that they would need someone to keep things in order, and collectively decided on the two boys. Tommy took power, but he hated ruling alone. He constantly feared he would end up like Wilbur when given any sort of power over other people. Tubbo suggested they got married, they would stay friends and never be more then friends but they could rule together as kings. Both loved the idea, now they were able to rule together, keeping eachother sane.

Tommy stared at the ring on his finger, it had bee's engraved into the gold to represent Tubbo. Tubbo's ring had poppies engraved on it to represent Tommy. Tommy knew he loved his best friend and he loved him back, and both of them were very happy where they were now. Tubbo was 23, Tommy 22, and had lots of pets to care for. But Tommy couldn't help but feel guilty about the people they had left behind. Did they think the two were dead? Did they ever try to find the two?

He was pulled out of his thoughts as he felt someone tug his hair, "Tubbo!" He lunged at the boy, who dodged with a laugh.

"You looked sad, had to snap you out of it!"

"But now I'll have to redo my bun!" Tommy pouted as he flicked Tubbo's short ponytale. The older had hair that barely reached past his chin, but Tommy liked his long and now it reached his shoulders.

"You're so dramatic. We have to go check on the flower farm. A few people told me that the bee's numbers were dwindling."

"The bee's are fine, it's just 'cause it's cold. This happens every year," still Tommy called for their two dogs, Clementine and Vikk (Tommy's unhealthy obsession with Vikkstar is funny and will never not be funny) and the two set out.

They didn't live in a castle, they didn't feel the need. They lived in a large family home on the east side of town near the entrance. As they were walking out of their home, they were met with a group of odd individuals.

A man with brown, bouncy curls, a blonde with grey wings, a man with strange goggles hand in hand with another man in a bright green hoodie, and a hoglin looking creature.

"Hi!" Tubbo smiled warmly, not immidietly recognizing who they were. Tommy, on the other hand, knew exactly who all of them were, and wasn't sure how to feel about it.

"Hello," Phil returned the smile, "we're looking for two of our friends, have you seen them?" The group didn't seem to recognize the two men standing infront of them. Phil held out a photo of younger Tubbo and Tommy. Tommy watched Tubbo, waiting to see what he would do.

Tubbo's face flashed to hurt, both of them weren't fully healed mentally, and it hurt that the group didn't recognize them, "get out of my kingdom," Tommy growled.

"What?" George sounded confused as he looked at the taller of the two young men stood infront of him "why?"

"You heard him, we don't owe you an explanation at all," Tubbo mirrored Tommy's frustration. The two watched as it clicked in everyone's mind who they were.

"Tommy, Tubbo, oh my goodness-" Wilbur was cut off by Tommy stepping infront of Tubbo, a cocktail of emotions in his eyes.

"I, the king, demand you leave my village."

"We're here to apologize," Dream approached the two but was met with a sword being unsheathed. One of the village's guards had stepped in. "We aren't gonna hurt them!" He protested.

"Luna," Tubbo gently dismissed the gaurd, who walked over to the entrance and watched. "Guys, we're really happy here. We don't need you dragging us into one of your wars. We've been freed for 6 years, don't make us come back."

"We aren't," Techno stated, crossing his arm, "the wars ended about two years ago. We've been searching for you ever since."

"Well that's sweet, now goodbye," Tommy waved as he whistled to his dogs and started to walk away.

"Tommy, can we hear them out? They aren't here to drag us back." Tommy sighed and begrudgingly walked back over to Tubbo, picking up Vikk and holding him for comfort. "Alright, explain."

"We felt really bad for what we put you through," Wilbur started.

"You were kids after all, it wasn't fair for us to traumatize you like that," Techno continued.

"It wasn't fair of me to play favorites, ignoring you guys in favor of helping Techno and Wilbur."

"You're ignore a huge thing," Tommy grumbled, "we were kids."

"We get that-"

"No! I don't think you do! You guys were adults! Not 16 year olds," This time Tubbo was the one who spoke up, talking firmly as he placed a hand on Tommy's shoulder. "We were innocent children. One of us had a country forced upon them, an angry dictator who abused them, friends who were only there for the good times. One of us was forced to follow their brother as he descended into insanity, another compleatly mental man abused them and tortured them, they  died for a country that refused to protect them. We were kids," Tubbo shook as he spoke, he wasn't yelling or angry, he was frustrated and quiet, which was much scarier, "you were not."

"I'm sorry." Most of them said in unison, George didn't say anything, was wasn't guilty for the most part.

"Your apology is accepted," Tubbo nodded at the group, "but not forgiven. Not just yet."

"We haven't recovered. We both get nightmares, the we can't spend holidays with our people because large groups and fireworks give Tubbo panic attacks, I couldn't rule alone because I was afraid of turning out like you," Tommy pointed an accusing finger at Wilbur, who flinched. "You'll have to come back another time if you want to fix our relationship. I want to be a peaceful person but I can't with all of you just yet."

"We understand that," Phil smiled, though sadness was evident on his face, "and we respect that."

"Feel free to rent a house for a weekend though, we'd love for you to meet our people. We just can't go back to full time contact with you guys." Tubbo smiled, watching the group infront of him light up.

"Um, that'd be great. Do you have an ender chest? We don't have diamonds on us," George rubbed the back of his neck as Tubbo nodded.

"Follow us!" Tubbo took Tommy's hand and started walking down the path, whistling to their dogs again.

"So what are your dog's names?" Wilbur asked, trying to avoid the obvious question they all wanted to ask.

"The yorki in my arms is Vikk, the big golden retriever is Clementine," Tonmy answered.

Wilbur and a few others laughed, "you're still obsessed with Vikkstar."

"Who wouldn't be, he's such a great man." More laughs came from the group.

"So," George started, "are you two...like..."

"No! Nonononono," Tubbo laughed lightly, "We're married, yes, but it's strictly platonic. We're best friends, never more then that. We had to be married to rule together. Our wedding was very cute though, instead of kissing we fist bumped then hugged eachother. It was great. The village laughed. In good nature though, they know we needed to be together, but they couldn't break tradition and we understood that."

"Aw, that's adorable," George cooed, "me and dream are married now too. Definitely not as cute as a friendship marriage tho."

"Are you telling me we're not cute?" Dream mocked offence as he looked at George.

"Yes, that is what I'm saying," George raised an eyebrow as he smiled, as if to challenge Dream.

"That's understandable," he nodded and George laughed.

"Can we tell the other's your here?" Phil asked as he got a text from Niki.

"Why don't we ask some questions," Tommy sighed, "is the egg still there?"

"No."

"Is snowchester still up and running?"

"It's only Jack now. He's abandoned most of the buildings and just stays in a tiny hut."

"What about the Innit hotel?"

"Sam kept it up and running, offering free rooms to most people who he deemed good. After sam died in the last battle of the egg, puffy took it over because she didn't have the heart to let it fall."

"What about the arctic empire. Are you guys still a thing?"

"We are..." Techno sighed, knowing why these questions were being asked.

"Then you can't tell other's we're here," Tommy concluded. Techno understood why, but Phil and Wilbur couldn't.

"Why not? The whole of the arctic Empire is standing right here."

"Ranboo isn't," Techno corrected.

"Ranboo's dead," Wilbur shot back, not thinking about what he was saying. Techno's ears dropped and he looked away.

"Ranboo? Like, my best friend who kept me alive through exile, Ranboo?"

"I- yeah. That final battle, about two years ago, there were a lot of final lives lost. Sam, Ranboo, the whole eggpire, and Sapnap."

"Ranboo and Sam came back as ghosts. Everyone else didn't," Phil said, "so he isn't compleatly gone."

Tommy muttered something along the lines of 'yeah' but Tubbo wasn't quite done asking questions, "speaking of ghosts, Wilbur, how are you alive?"

"I was resurrected. Not my choice, but Ghostbur's choice. I've learned to appreciate my 4th chance. Not everyone gets that."

"That's cool. Could you do that with Boo and Awesamghost?"

"We could, but death is so freeing, they don't suffer anymore, so we've let them live their ghost lives."

"That's understandable." Tubbo nodded, stopping infront of a large house. " here's the largest vacant house in the village. 5 rooms, 2.5 bathrooms. You can find the owner of the house just down the street. He'll give you prices for a weekend stay."

"Thanks you two, we'll see you tomorrow?" Phil asked and Tubbo nodded.

"And the enderchest is inside the house, by the way," Tommy smiled slightly. Phil nodded in thanks and with that the two groups parted ways.

As the two kings made their way down the path, watching their dogs play as they started chatting, "I don't want them in the city longer then the weekend."

"I know. But we have to give them a chance."

"We don't owe them anything. We can be rulers here, they'll want to drag us back to their divided server whether they're still at war or not."

"It's okay Tommy," Tubbl rested his head on the taller's shoulder, "we don't have to spend longer then a weekend with them." The reached their house and walked inside, the dogs curling onto their bed and snuggling in with eachother. The boys separating only to feed their different animals before heading to bed themselves.

Tommy sprinkled food into the fish tank and placed a few carrots on the back step of their porch for their rabbits that lived outside. Tubbo placed three raw fish into a bowl and set it next to their cat tree, washing his hands then feeding their bird a handful of wheat seeds.

The two walked upstairs, Tubbo heading to his room and Tommy following him. " you alright Toms?" Tommy flopped onto Tubbo's bed, grumbling something in reply. "Oh Tommy, it'll be okay." Tubbo sat next to his best friend undoing his hair bun and starting the braid the hair. "I have faith they've gotten better. Philza wouldn't have let Dream, Wilbur, and Techno come along if they weren't changed men." Tubbo wrapped the hair elastic around the end of the braid and pat his friends shoulder to signal to him to sit up.

Tommy leaned against Tubbo, their arms loosely linked together. "Tubbo?"

"Yes Tommy?"

"Do you want to go back?"

"I mean...it'd be nice to see everyone. But I don't want to go back for good. My life is here with our people and all of our fur babies. And I'm not ready to see everyone all at once."

"Maybe...in a little while..we could pay them all a visit," Tommy sighed, "just maybe."

Tubbo smiled, "I'm sure we could work that out."

Tommy curled in on himself, "just thinking about going back makes my stomach go all weird."

"Me too, but we can visit when we're ready. Doesn't have to be now."

"Right," Tommy sighed and closed his eyes, he hadn't been angry in so long, it was exhausting. Both boys fell asleep cuddled with one another, deciding they would think about the others tomorrow.

Another kinda long one of me just exploring an au. I love this one to bits and peices! Remember this is platonic and if someone takes it as anything other then that I will hunt you down and steal your kneecaps.

I hope you all have a wonderful day/night and know you are loved to the Moon and back <3
