Chapter 35
"Let go of me, you fucking bitches!" Chris spat as she was dragged over to the large glass tube container.
She was forced inside and the door quickly shut and locked behind her.
She swiftly turned around and slammed her fists against the clearly glass door.
"Well, well, well, someone's feisty today" Liam commented with a light smirk as he watched his daughter try to force her way out of the testing chamber.
"What the hell do you want from me now?!" Chris snapped at him, slamming her hands against the glass as she glared at him so intensely that even he couldn't meet her gaze for a few seconds.
"A recent discovery about you informed me that you have magic running through your veins. Something that you weren't supposed to have at all in the first place. So, today, we're going to extract it, and use it to power up some testing machines. It'll be painful, and if you try to resist, it'll be even more painful for you" he eventually explained.
He turned around and placed his hands behind his back.
"Start it up!" he ordered.
Inside the glass chamber, Chris felt the air begin to move as it spiraled up into the cone shaped hole above the chamber.
At the same time, her whole body began to ache, even more than it had before.
Then, after a couple seconds, a sudden pain ripped through her entire body, so sharp that it made her cry out in pain.
Her hands, which she still had against the glass, balled into fists as soft curling strips of green magic began to separated from her body, spiraling up towards the opening over the chamber.
The pain in Chris's body grew steadily until she was almost shrieking with pain.
She was also growing weaker by the minute as well, from where she had been standing with her hands firmly pressed against the glass, she was now on her knees, leaning on her fists that were against the glass while sweat dripped from her body onto the floor of the chamber.
Liam watched with a slightly sickening smile as his daughter's magic was sapped from her body, though his expression turned into one of light surprise when her eyes turned black with those red cat pupils, which had narrowed into slits.
She raised up a hand, which began to glow with a soft green color.
The glow was faint, but it was still there.
Everyone suddenly watched in sheer fascination as the spiralling magic inside the chamber slowed to a stop.
Chris panted hard as she fixed her gaze on her father, who now stood straight and had an unreadable expression on his face.
"This, is my magic, you hear me? And I, won't let you, or anyone else, take it from me" she snapped.
While she was talking, glowing blue-green strips began to appear on her skin, the glow so bright, you could see it through her black clothes.
The glowing strips arranged themselves in circuit patterns that traveled up her body and stopped at her neck, quickly fading as where the patterns met the skin on her neck.
Even her eyes had tiny glowing patterns appearing around the edges.
"What the hell?" Liam breathed as the magic began the spiral into the chamber and started to collect into a ball in Chris's hand.
The circuit pattern designs in her eyes and on her body began to glow even brighter.
The lights in the room flickered before shutting off, leaving the only light source being Chris as she took back what was hers.
Once all the magic had been collected, the ball melted into Chris's hand, and her glow became almost blindingly bright.
So bright in fact, that some of the people in the room were shielding their eyes.
By now, even the red pupil slits were glowing brightly.
"Oh. my. gods" Liam breathed as he watched what was happening in front of him with undistracted fascination.
Chris raised a hand, and lightly tapped her pointer finger against the glass.
Almost instantly, the area she had tapped, cracked.
The cracks kept spreading for a few seconds before stopping.
Chris glanced at what she had done before putting one hand flat against the glass and drawing back the other, hand forming into a fist.
"Back up, back up!" someone yelled before the fist came in contact with the glass, shattering it into multiple pieces.
The blinding glow faded away, and the female fighter fell to the ground, unconscious...
Chris shot up in the infirmary bed with a cold sweat, breathing hard as the remnants of her dream faded away. She took a second to get her bearings as she looked around before sighing in quiet relief.
She then looked over herself to find that her circuit pattern glow was lightly shimmering, even on her prosthetic leg. Chris closed her eyes and focused on her breathing, calming herself down.
The faded away, leaving behind the tan skin. Chris let out another soft sigh, before tossing off the thin blankets that covered her body and letting her legs hang over the side of the bed.
Then she got changed into some black leggings and a loose black t-shirt. Don't judge her, she had a thing for black clothing.
After she got changed, she balanced herself on her prosthetic and reached over for her crutches. Since it physically hurt to walk, due to the wounds that she had received around her leg during the time with the S.S.O., she had been assigned some crutches to help her move around and get to where she needed to go.
Chris glanced up at the clock.
"Damn, I need to stop waking up so early" she muttered to herself after seeing the clock read 4 : 25 AM.
She silently got out of her room and made her way out of the infirmary. She had gotten herself down the hall before she was spotted.
"Chris?"
Chris paused and turned herself around to see Jessica. After she had gotten back to the Justice Reigns, she had told everyone everything.
It didn't come as that big of a surprise when people found out that Chris and Jessica were siblings. A lot of people had already suspected that the two might have been related in some way.
"Hey sis" Chris greeted as Jessica came over.
The young guard smiled a bit at the new nick name.
"What are you doing out here at this time of night?" she asked.
Chris shrugged.
"Just taking a night stroll" she replied.
"Another night terror?"
"...Yeah"
Jessica nodded in sympathetic understanding.
"Do you want to talk about it?" she asked
"Not really....What are you doing up early anyway?" Chris replied then asked.
Jessica giggled.
"Its my turn for night patrol, remember?" she said.
"Oh, right" Chris said before facepalming, making Jessica laugh a bit.
"Well, I better continue with my patrol. See you around, sis" she said.
Chris waved her off before she started 'walking' again.
Continuing on her nightly stroll to clear her damaged mind...
