Chapter 33
"Got anything?" Jessica asked.
It had been a couple days since she and the Meme Squad arrived at the mining site she and Chris had been at. It seemed that someone had accidentally detonated the explosives, cause the inside of the site was filled with loose rock and dirt, as well as some broken and damaged equipment.
No one wanted to think about how many bodies had been buried under the dirt, dead or alive.
"Noth-wait! Hold up! Got something!" Cross called.
Everyone walked over to him to see him kneeling by some green colored chips that were laying on the ground.
"How is that something?" Jessica asked as he held up a chip for everyone to see.
It looked like it was moving, yet retaining its shape.
"Its magic. Literally. In really rare cases, when magic gets severely compressed, it can sometimes harden to form chips and small pebbles, like these" Error explained.
"You said your friend had magic, right?" Nightmare asked.
"Yeah, and its had this green mist color to it too" Jessica replied.
"Then I think these might belong to her. And if we can trace it..." Nightmare said.
"Then we might be able to find Chris!" Jessica cried.
"Exactly. Error, your the best at tracing magic, think you can take on this?" Cross said as he gathered up all the magic chips he could get.
Error summoned his strings and cleverly wrapped them around the chips and pebbles in Cross's hands, forming a small ball of chips and strings. The entire thing glowed as Error closed his eyes and focused.
After a couple minutes, he got something.
"Got it. Its faint, but its there" he said.
"Where is she?" Nightmare asked.
After a few moments of silence, "Prairietale. Someplace underground. Literally. She's in a place that's buried in the ground in Prairietale"
"Alright, Prairietale, here we come" Nightmare said.
He grabbed Jessica and the whole group teleported to Prairietale.
-At the S.S.O base-
Chris jolted awake, breathing hard with cold sweat dripping down her face as the nightmare replayed itself in her head. During the nightmare, she got a weird feeling in her body.
It was almost like a sixth sense, but she felt like something or someone was tracking her.
"Hey Chris! You alright? That looked like quite the nightmare you were having" Josh said sympathetically.
"Yeah, I'm alright" Chris replied, letting a a big breath as she did so.
It was a lie all to itself, and both Chris and Josh knew it. During her time as the S.S.O.'s prisoner, she had been moved to a public cell block instead of a private one, which is how she met Josh.
The two had become fast friends, bonding over stories and exchanging food. Chris moved her wrists to regain the feeling in them. T
hey often went numb here and there, a now usual thing since they were tightly chained together and held over Chris's head from a suspended chain that came from the ceiling. Tight metal bands around Chris's ankles that connected to chains that were bolted to the floor kept her in a sitting position, since it hurt to stand up.
Both her wrists and ankles were rubbed raw. Her clothes had more tears in them than before, showing more of the bloodied black and blue bruises that covered her skin. Since she had refused to break in front of her father, Liam had allowed his guards to do whatever they wanted to her, as long as it wasn't sexual in any way.
"Alright, that was a lie, and we both know it" Josh told Chris, who looked down at the dusty floor.
"Its what everyone does sunny!" said one of the older prisoners.
The older prisoners often eavesdropped on other people's conversations just to pass the time. Suddenly, the doors to the prison block burst open, and a group of guards came, to holding a new struggling prisoner between them.
This happened twice a day, where the guards would come in with a new prisoner, and pick out the weakest looking one out of those in the prison block. The one the was selected was killed, and the new prisoner was placed in the cell.
After a minute of searching, a person was selected, and they were dragged out of the block kicking and screaming. After they left the room, a seconds later a gunshot rang out.
Chris had become so used to this that she didn't even flinch, but her heart and soul ached for the unnecessary kill. The new person was put in the cell and all but one guard left the area.
The one that had remained behind approached Chris's cell, a chain whip appearing in his hands.
Everyone knew what was coming...
The guard left half an hour later with a sadistic, yet satisfied smile on his face.
"Chris, how can you endure this shit?" Josh asked.
"I've endured it before, I can do it again" Chris replied, but she didn't even bother to raise her head as her blood spilled from her new wounds.
This was also a daily occurrence, but it only happened once. The beatings weren't the only thing Chris went through.
She had also been selected here and there for soul experimentation. Luckily, the experiments never really worked.
Chris closed her eyes and was about to drift off to sleep when the doors opened again.
"Alright useless assholes! It's supper time!" someone yelled before the food cart started to roll around.
The second the chains fell off, the more crazed prisoners instantly rushed at the bars, reaching out with grabbing hands as the food cart passed by their cells. Sucking up the pain, Chris stood up shakily and slowly made her way towards the bars of her cell.
When she got to them, she reached out a hand, something that everyone was required to do to receive their share of the food rations. When the guards went passed her cell, one slapped a small bread roll into her hand.
That was her dinner. Like usual.
As she made her way back over to the wall, she heard the guards making snide comments about.
"I doubt she's going to make it to the end of the week" said one.
"Looks like those experiments are taking a late effect on her" another said.
Chris ignored them and sat down, leaning her back against the wall before beginning on her bread roll. The food was flavorless, hard and cold, but it was all she had.
After she finished, she stood up and walked around the cell.
It would be a while before she could move almost freely, so, she was going to make the most of it...
