Chapter 27
(Warning : Short chapter)
Everyone's reactions to the prosthetic were nothing less than joyful, with a couple being playfully mad or upset that Chris didn't tell them about this. But, after a couple more weeks of recovery, and Chris was ready to get back out into the field.
Though just to make sure, Dream had her go back to training the next generation of young fighters. Something that her older classes, students, and graduated students were very happy about.
Which Ink saw first hand with Jessica. The second she had seen Chris inside the Justice Reigns HQ building, she had ran full speed at her ex trainer, tackling her to the ground with the biggest hug she could muster.
Chris laughed a bit as she hugged the happy young adult back while getting back up onto her feet. Ink chuckled as he walked over, one boney hand in the jacket pocket.
"Well, looks like someone's excited to see you back" he said, his eyelights moving from Jessica to Chris's face.
Here and there, he couldn't help but wonder if they were related in some way. After all, Chris and Jessica did look a lot like each other.
In fact, Ink was only able to tell the two apart from the scars, eye color, clothes, and the five inch height difference. Chris being the taller of the two.
"Yeah, I can see that" Chris replied playfully.
She and Jessica let go of each other, and that was when the young girl realized something.
"Oh shoot! My break's over, isn't it? I need to get back to my post!" she cried before racing off.
Chris watched her go before shooting Ink a confused look.
"Kid was apparently doing such a great job with her guard duties that Dream trusted her enough to become his personal guard. In short, she got promoted" Ink explained.
"Oooohhh! Okay. Well then, I'm happy for her" Chris said, a small feeling of pride going through her at the fact that one of her best students became Dream's personal guard.
The two now started walking to her office, Ink coming along so that he could catch Chris up with all the things that had happened while she was away. Which involved a couple of pretty good pranks from the Meme squad.
The most recent having been a week ago.
"Really? Glue and feathers? That's a classic one" Chris laughed.
"Hey! Don't go taking their side now" Ink said, nudging her arm with his elbow.
Chris had met the Meme squad once or twice before during one of her solo patrols. Yeah, Nightmare had thrown some homemade smoke bombs down to allow his group to escape, without realizing the stuff was not flour, but actually a certain type of blinding powder that affected both humans and monsters.
In the end, both sides escaped with burning and irritated eyes and eyelights. Chris had spent a full thirty minutes pouring the contents of a water bottle into her eyes to wash out the powder.
The entire ordeal had been enough to put her in a bad mood for the next couple days.
"Well, Its good to have you back Chris" Ink said as the two stopped outside the office door.
"Thanks. Its good to be back" Chris said.
She and Ink shared a soft smile and slightly loving gaze before she slipped into her office and closed the door behind her. Ink let out a soft breath of air before turning around and chasing two trainees that were up to some mischief.
Jessica hid herself and put a hand over her mouth to stifle her giggles. She looked at the picture she had taken, which was of the moment Chris and Ink just had.
"Adorable. They both need to just confess already" she muttered to herself with a smile as she added the picture to the growing folder of 'Chris and Ink's Moments' on her phone, where there were a bunch of pictures of Chris and Ink.
Then she disappeared off to where she was supposed to be. Which was guarding the entrance to Dream's office...
