Chapter 26

Chris sighed through her nose as she spared a glance at her leg, lifting her gaze back up to read her book. A little gift from Jessica, who had somehow figured out that Chris was actually a bit of a bookworm.

It had been a couple days since she woke up, and she admitted, she was happy to be alive and know that her friends and crush were alright, but, she wondered if the price she paid was worth the decision she made to go back into the building. And lately, that was starting to reflect in her demeanor.

Chris was starting to become quiet, and more withdrawn, which reminded Sabrina and her group of the younger, weaker, and more shy version that they had met. It was starting to become no secret that Chris wasn't happy with herself.

She was also starting to understand the phrase 'love what you have before its gone'. She missed being able to walk, run, and just move around on her own instead of having to use a wheelchair or crutches.

Luckily for her, she was good friends with the Alphys of Technotale, who had heard of her situation, and decided to help out. Chris flipped the page of her book, and continued reading, only to be distracted by a knock at the door.

"Oh! Dr. Angie! This is a bit of a surprise" Chris said, putting in a bookmark and setting her book aside.

She then took note of the package box in Dr. Angie's hands.

"Wwwhat is that?" Chris asked as Dr. Angie came into the room.

"Well, Alphys had heard about your leg situation, and came up with something to help out" Dr. Angie replied, setting the box down.

She opened it up, and Chris had mixed feelings about what was inside. The prosthetic looked like a human leg, that was made of metal.

Though it had a surprise to it. When Chris reached over to grab it, she expected it to feel pretty hard, since it was made of metal.

So imagine her surprise when the surface gave out, just like human skin when something was pressed against it.

"Oh! Oh my gods!" Chris cried out, shaking her hand a bit before laughing a bit.

"I was not expecting that" she laughed.

"Thought that might give you a bit of a shock. Hope it taught you a lesson to not go into anymore collapsing buildings" said a voice by the doorway.

Chris and Dr. Angie looked over to see no one other than the anime lover herself.

"Alphys! How in the multiverse did you make this?" Chris asked.

"With a lot of hard work and multiple failed experiments. As well as a bit of silicone" Alphys replied.

She had on her signature lab coat and glasses, and she was a couple inches taller than your usual Alphys.

"So, how does this work?" Chris asked, trying to ignore the shivers that went up her spine as she lifted up the prosthetic and placed it in her lap.

"It works by connecting to your nervous system and reading the brainwaves that your head produces" Alphys replied.

"So basically, its going to be wired to my brain" Chris simplified.

Alphys shrugged and nodded.

"Basically, yes" she said.

"So, how do we attach it?" Dr. Angie asked.

Alphys reached over and pressed an area on the prosthetic. A few needles protruded from where it would connect to Chris's leg.

They were each only half an inch long, but it still sent shivers up Chris's spine.

"These are what will completely bind the leg to your body. So, do you still want to go through with this?" Alphys said then asked.

"Y-yeah" Chris replied, after a moment's hesitation.

"Great! So, which do you prefer. Morphine, or anesthesia?" Alphys asked.

"Morphine" Chris said without hesitation.

"So, I'm going to give you this, should take a minute to go into effect" said Dr. Angie.

She gave Chris a shot in the leg. And a couple minutes later, she couldn't feel a thing.

"I think its taken effect" she said.

Dr. Angie pressed her hands against the stump, and Chris shook her head, indicating that she didn't feel a thing.

"Alright, let's do this" Alphys said.

She lined up the leg with the stump, and pushed. Chris shivered as a weird, indescribable sensation traveled from her leg to her spine.

It ended when it got to the base of the neck.

"Oh gods, that felt weird" she said.

Everyone then watched as the prosthetic moved on its own, shifting and adjusting itself until it was in the correct position and was at the right size. If it hadn't been for the color, it would've looked exactly like the original leg.

And another strange thing, the place where the prosthetic connected to the skin was blended together.

Literally.

It was so strange to see tan colored skin fade into a dark ashen grey metal.

"Wow" Chris breathed.

"Looks like it was a successful joinment" Alphys said

"Alright, lets wait for a little bit before we try to get you walking around, okay?" Dr. Angie said.

Chris nodded.

"Sounds good" she said.

"And Alphys? Thank you so much" she added to the scientist, who nodded in reply.

"Any time Chris" she replied...
