2. Lord Nelson's Trousers
Turns out, Sephy was everything I hadn't expected. Born in Minnesota, she was born and bred small town, and had always dreamed of becoming a lawyer. She and a few others from her home town had been accepted into Green Lakes, and we'd talked for quite a long time before I'd finally succumbed to sleep.
It was what I woke up to that scared every living cell out of my body.
Someone large and hefty was laying on top of me, crushing my entire front into my mattress. The fogginess of my brain was struggling to comprehend what was going on, and it wasn't until I heard the familiar deep chuckle of someone I knew like the back of my hand that I relaxed, realising I was not about to get raped by a stranger on my first day of classes.
"Ben! Get off me!" I screamed into my pillow, my cry muffled.
"You're awake, finally!" His voice sounded triumphant, and I wriggled under him, trying to get him off me.
But when Ben decided to lay down and get comfortable, he didn't move for anyone.
"I'm about to die of suffocation, so I won't be for much longer." Managing to turn my face so my cheek was now pressed into my pillow, my air ways free, I glared up at Ben. "Get off fatty."
Ben gasped, and then I groaned when he sunk on top of me harder, pushing himself into the mattress too. "Not after that comment."
"It's true. Lay off the Big Mac's, Benny."
"How dare you insult my figure like that."
"Ben, I'm this close to killing you."
"I'd hate to point it out, but you must not be that close at all, seeing as you're currently stuck underneath me-"
"Ben!" I screamed, and he started laughing really, really hard, his chuckles vibrating through my duvet and onto me. He was shaking the bed, he started cracking up that hard.
I heard a door open somewhere in the distance, but Ben's chortles were filling my ears so I couldn't figure out where from.
Then, "Oh god, I thought letting him in would have been safe."
"Help me Sephy!" I yelled, still trying to wiggle under his big body. The sound of my roommates footsteps getting closer filled me with a little bit of hope, until she stopped next to my head and bent down, her grinning face opposite to my squashed one.
"But you both look so comfortable."
"I really like you, Seph, but if you leave and don't help me get him off, I'll remember that forever."
"So threatening in the morning, isn't she?" Ben's voice was full of amusement and I just wanted to roll over and knee him in the balls, but one, I was stuck, and two, I was stuck.
Fuck him and his natural athletic form.
With one last grunt, I summoned all the strength that I could find this early in the morning, and threw myself sideways, managing to half roll over as a burst of victory rushed through me, my mouth cracking into a smug smile when something dawned on me and I paled in shock.
Ben was slipping off the bed. And he had clutched his arms around me.
I screamed as his back hit the floor, the air rushing out of his throat and Ben groaned and my chin smacked into his collarbone, causing my jaw to snap shut and pain to radiate through that area. When my eyes snapped open, Ben was sprawled underneath me, my limbs spanning out in all directions, my face almost touching his, and Sephy was standing near my bed, eyes wide with shock, her mouth slightly formed into an 'o'.
My eyes connected with Ben's, his blue eyes so close to mine. And that's when I noticed his other facial features, and how close they were to mine as well, making my heart jump like a cat when someone scares the shit out of the poor tabby.
Then, "Lord Nelsons trousers, you're heavy."
And as soon as Ben had quoted Nigel off the Wild Thornberry's, Sephy cracked up.
So hard, she had tears.
"Holy, you two!" She cackled, clutching her stomach. "If I had a camera right now...oh god," I scowled up at my roommate, then felt Ben's big body start to shake with silent laughter as well. I still couldn't see the funny side of this whole situation, though, and Ben must have clicked on to that when I smacked his chest, sitting up slightly to get away from him.
To realise what I had slept in last night.
I glanced down at my bare thighs, a blush rushing to my cheeks when I realised I was only in one of Ben's old shirts that had been my pajama top for years, and underwear.
I was straddling my best friend in nothing but his shirt and panties.
Lord Nelson's lack of trousers.
Scrambling onto my feet before he could notice, I threw a pillow at both of them, Sephy still laughing like a rabid hyena, and folded my arms. "You two are going to make this a long year, aren't you?"
Ben finally got up off the ground, rubbing his hip slightly, and for a second I felt kind of bad.
Then I saw the smirk on his face, and that feeling disappeared. "You still sleep in my old baseball team shirt?"
I saw Sephy's eyebrows rise, her lips quirking up into a little grin, but I ignored her. "It's the most comfortable shirt ever. Deal with it."
"So snappy." Ben muttered, getting another glare from me.
"I'm having a shower, okay?" I grumbled, stepping away from the two despicable people in front of me and turning for the small bathroom Sephy and I shared.
Once I had locked the door, I turned the shower on until the water was steaming and stripped of my sleeping wear. I showered quickly, washing my hair and body before flicking off the shower and wrapping a towel around my body, walking over to wipe the mirror hanging over the vanity to see my reflection.
Brushing my teeth and quickly checking my reflection to make sure nothing was too unsightly, I opened the bathroom door and walked out to get changed, only to see Ben and Sephy still in the room.
Grunting at the sight of Ben, I walked over to my side of the closet and pulled out a bra and a pair of underwear, as well as my favourite light blue jeans and a white v neck shirt.
"I need to change." I said, directing my comment at Ben.
He rose an eyebrow. "So...get changed."
"Ben, you're a boy."
"I've seen it all before, sweetheart. Don't be modest now."
"Ben-"
"Charles."
Closing my eyes, I groaned again and stomped back into the bathroom, knowing full well he was right. He had seen me naked before. We had been kids sharing a bathtub with the rest of the Presley and Denver siblings, but still, he'd seen it all.
That didn't mean he had a free pass to see me naked whenever he liked, however.
I quickly dressed, my hair starting to dry naturally already. Looking at it in the mirror, the chocolate locks getting the slight wavy kink in them when I left it out naturally. Grabbing a hair tie, I secured it around my wrist and walked back out of the bathroom again, finding a pair of shoes.
"-what do you mean, Joey was way cooler than Ross."
"If you really think that, then I'll never take anything else you say seriously."
"Guys." I cut in, both Ben and Sephy's eyes snapping to meet mine. "Should we all head to class now, or should I just go by myself and you two can keep arguing over which Friends character was better?"
Ben rolled his eyes, but stood from my bed anyway. "Whatever you say, boss."
"Why aren't you hanging with your roommate this morning?" I suddenly asked, frowning when I realised Ben had said nothing about who his roommate actually was. "You haven't told me about him."
"You haven't given me a chance this morning." Ben said with a snort. "He's at the gym. The guys never not got any energy."
"So you don't like him?" Sephy asked as we grabbed our books and everything we would need for our first ever class of Uni, and walked out the door behind Ben, locking it.
"No, he's a really cool guy. You guys are going to love him." Ben smiled, and I watched him as he swung his bag over his shoulder, an easy grin on his handsome face as we strolled out of the dorm block and into the morning sunshine. His tanned skin was golden in the light, his dark hair ruffling in the slight breeze. He needed a hair cut, really. His strides were confident, easy, and I could see why some of the other girls outside had instantly latched their eyes onto him.
I was never going to admit it, but Ben was sexy.
One of those big arms draped across my shoulders again, the familiar move comforting me slightly. The more I thought about where we were going, the more I started to get nervous.
What if our lecturer hated me? What if the work was too hard? What if law wasn't the career path I actually wanted, even though I had been so adament at the start?
It hadn't hit me last night that I would be so nervous about going to the lectures and classes, and earlier this morning Ben and Sephy had distracted me enough to make me not think about it.
And then it clicked. Ben waking me up so rudely was just his plan to stop me from being so nervous. Glancing up to look at his face, I smiled slightly. As much as this guy was annoying sometimes, I don't know what I would do without his friendship.
We'd known each other since birth. I literally couldn't imagine him not being there. He'd just always had been. Simple as that.
"Earth to Charlie?" Sephy's voice rang out, a hand waving in front of my face. We had reached the lecture room doorway, and I frowned. When did we come inside?
Ben's body chuckled against mine, his arm still tight around my shoulders. "You still with us, Charles?"
"Yeah, sorry." I laughed, ducking out from under his arm. "I just spaced out for a while."
"Just have fun today, okay?" Ben said in a reassuring voice, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into one of his big bear hugs. "I'll see you guys at lunch." His eyes met mine, and I saw the reasurrance in his stare. I smiled up at him, letting him know I appreciated it.
Sephy and I both said our goodbyes to him as he walked down the hallways to where his lecture was obviously going to take place. When he finally disappeared, I could feel Sephy's eyes on me.
"What?" I muttered as I pulled the handle to the lecture room open.
"You two," She shook her head, laughing slightly. "I've never shipped a real life couple."
"Well you better not start now." I scolded her, walking into the big room that was slowly filling with other students. "Ben and I are friends. Only."
Why didn't she look like she believed me?
I decided not to care, and sighed. Looking up to all of the seats rising row by row up to the back of the room, I tried to find a seat that Sephy and I could sit at. There was space in the middle, the back, and off to both sides. It was a good selection-
I stumbled forward, an oomph leaving my mouth as Sephy reached out and grabbed my arm to stop me from falling.
My pens weren't so lucky. Three went flying, landing at whoever had just tried to bowl me over with the doors feet.
Back sore from where the solid wooden door connected, I turned to look at whoever had hit me with it.
A guy stared back. He was dark blonde, hair styled short, green eyed, and not too bad in the looks department. He had this square jaw that fitted with his thicker, muscular physique, and I was a girl, okay? I did notice a nice looking guy when I saw one.
"You might want to pick up your pens."
That's when I decided I wasn't going to like this guy, even with his white teeth and cute smile and nicely fitting clothes.
"Excuse me? You hit me with the door-"
"Correction; I swung the door open and you were standing too close."
Our eyes locked, and I scowled at the stranger.
Well, at least I'd met another Uni student. Smashing.
