The Price to Live

"You must be asking yourself, why you, right?"

There was a banging noise in response as the engine came to a stop. The trunk made a click  before a young man opened his car's door. He observed his surroundings for a moment before he stretched. Everything in sight was covered in darkness except the beam of light coming from the front of the car. The wind's breeze made the trees howled in response. There was only one building insight, and mother nature seemed to be in the process of reclaiming it.

The man wore a golden chain that swung around his neck. The words Lust was engraved upon it and on his face held a scar.

The banging continued and pleading words of help me.

"You must not take it personally," he said, if it makes you feel better you will soon see that they are others, both men and women."

He walked towards the back of the car and opened the trunk. There rested inside was a young woman. She had a petit look and was fair of skin. Her hands and feet were bound together and her clothes were extremely revealing. She held tears within her eyes despite the rage in her as she flopped around like a fish out of water.

"Don't give me that look I gave you a choice. You choose this path. Accept it now it will be easier for you, and it will be for me."

He peeled the duct tape off her mouth and removed the gag he had placed there.

Almost like clock work she wiggled and screamed. "Help me! Please, someone, help me!"

The man laughed and  swayed his hand in the air. "Help me! Help me!"

This continued for a while until the woman went hoarse, and he laughed.

"No one would hear you, you're far away from civilization."

"What are you going to do with me, John?"

"You told me you like drugs didn't you? You told me you saw it as an escape away from your problems."

"What are you talking about?"

"I am granting you that wish that you so desired."

"Are you crazy?"

"I guess I might seem that way to you. Tell me what exactly do you see when you're completely gone on those drugs? Things that aren't there?"

The woman did not respond.

John slumped down by the trunk and rested his back upon it. "What if I told you that hell was real? What if I told you I met things and saw things that couldn't be explained?"

"You're fucking crazy! You Haratian pig!"

"I guess that would be the normal reaction."

John paused and looked up at the sky.

"What do I have to do for you to let me go. Just tell me and I will do it okay?"

"Listen to my story and then, maybe if you can answer my question. I will let you go."

"Okay," there was a shiver in her voice, "tell me."

He turned his head towards her. "This craziness for me all began when I met this man called Mathew. Others I met called him Samael. Maybe it was me that called the devil or the devil's son?"

"I wouldn't know."

"I was down on my luck, the prostitution business wasn't making enough money and bills were piling. He offered me hope, and I took it without even questioning it. It was then I saw the actual world, it had to be the real world. It was an exact copy of everything here, but destroyed. A dystopian maybe?"

She remained silent, but he heard her body shifting in the car as he continued.

"The roads were cracked, and the buildings were tumbled or resembled a world war. I saw people running from monsters and running from each other because even in the moments of pure chaos. Humans are the biggest threat to each other. Like everyone else, I ran."

John got up on his feet and took her out of the trunk.

"What are you doing?" she asked, but he ignored her as he continued talking.

"Survive, Matthew had told me. Survive and my luck will change. It was like a nightmare that constantly struck me when darkness approached. It sucked me there constantly trying to kill me. It was at that point I met a girl. Her name was Ashley or Ash as she preferred being called. When she met me I was a woman, It was strange I  could change forms of a sor---."

"Please,I thought you were giving me a chance."

"Unlike everyone else, she was just like me, able to leave and forced to return. It was probably at this time I reached my breaking point I had enough."

She stumbled as he pushed her along towards the building, withdrawing a pair of keys.

"Then I was presented with a new option to send other people, and I wouldn't go. The number at first was small, it was just one person. That number kept rising, leaving me in a state of not feeling comfortable. I won't bore you with all the ways I had to about to do it." The man chuckled as he opened the door. "My luck had indeed changed first every lustful man in the city was bound to come to visit and then came the women."

John led her inside the building and turned on a light before her were hundreds of people bound and tied in cages like animals.

"Wait?" she said as her feet stumbled.

You know I thought I had seen everything. A prostitute, one of my favourite that was just like you working for me. Strangely disappeared and on her return, she was far crueler, more sadistic than I had ever known. Her words give me the chills and I became nothing more than a plaything for her. Is it wrong that I actually enjoyed it?"John stopped took off his shirt revealing the many bruises on his body. I knew that person couldn't be Martini and her plans for this world..."

He grabbed her by the arm again and led her to an empty cage before he came to a stop.

"John please," she stuttered.

"Tell me if you were me. Would you escape this madness or would you give yourself entirely to it?"
